  • It's finally here and I'm so excited!
    This video is part 1/3. This series is divided as follows:
    PART 1/3: How to Create a good Note-Taking system for Your Needs
    • How to Create a Good N...
    1. Important attributes of a good note taking system. (1:32)
    2. What classes to use handwritten note taking system for (4:30) and a brief spiel about handwritten notes vs typed notes (6:38)
    PART 2/3: The Mistral Method: the BEST Note-Taking System!
    • How to Take GREAT Note...
    2. the Mistral Method:
    Layout of the page and info (1:08)
    Colour coding system (5:00)
    Pens and highlighters that work well together (5:30)
    Bullet system and signifiers (11:05)
    PART 3/3: Tips and Tricks for Note Organization
    • Tips and Tricks for No...
    3. Extra tips to incorporate (depending on the subject) (1:32)
    4. Flip through some class binders where I use handwritten notes, and show you how I organize all the notes for a course (2:55)
    WHY IS THE MISTRAL METHOD SO AWESOME:
    - ADAPTABLE | I use it for typed AND handwritten notes, and I even use the same system in my bullet journal! No need to memorize different colour codes and styles.
    - EFFICIENT and QUICK | I HATE rewriting notes. I feel like I'm better off just studying. The Mistral Method withstands rapid-fire lectures and slow brainstorm sessions
    - ORGANIZED | I review, not study for tests - all because the process of taking the notes has already ensured I store the material in a logical, organized way - both in my brain and on paper.
    - TEST OF TIME | I've been using the same one for the past 2 years for all my subjects and it works perfectly!
    This system is HUGE, but it’s absolutely amazing and I’m so proud of it. I hope you use it and/or get inspired by it.! Later, I might make shorter but more detailed videos about specific aspects of my system. Let me know what you'd like to see in the comments! I love hearing from you!
    And remember: when it comes to studying, MORE isn’t necessarily better.
    A lot of people ask me about the time it takes to stay organized and whether that’s an issue. And as I’ve come to realize more and more, BEING ORGANIZED is what 80% of my success is attributed to. Sure, it takes a bit more time to GET organized, but then your mind is organized too! The tasks are easier to break down and do. And the tests are easier to study for - because you’ve been studying this whole time already. Keep that in mind! :-)

    Could you make a video on you’re typed notes? Also do you prefer grid or lined paper?

    • @ioanahayman
      @ioanahayman  Před 6 lety +9

      For sure!! I prefer graph paper - though I don't really know why. I think it just looks better and more organized, and lends itself better to a varied note layout. But I still use lined paper for my literature journal (the FiloFax one)!

    I love your videos, I’m amazed.
    I do have a question.
    I’ve watched all of your videos. My oldest will be 12 tomorrow, Feb 7, he starts middle school in August. (7th grade where we live) He’s a little behind due to a speech delay. I work with him, but I want HIM to learn his style and set him up for a path to success and know that even though he struggles he can do better.
    Anyways, what my question is... Can you do a must haves for a little younger (7-8th grade). School supply recommendations on a budget but still good products. Tips, tricks, maybe ideas that I can assist him with at home?
    Maybe something about study buddies or parental guidance/help?
    I’m not sure I’m doing a good job, basically I assist and do homeschooling after school with him. We work really hard to get him on grade level, but I guess I need ideas or suggestions to help and encourage him.

    • @ioanahayman
      @ioanahayman  Před 6 lety +1

      Thank you! That sounds like a lovely idea. I've been thinking of some kind of a supply favourites list, so I'll definitely look into doing that but also finding budget friendly and accessible options (which is also important to me, since I'm off to university soon). In fact, I've been experimenting with using mild-coloured crayola markers instead of the more expensive Mildliner highlighters lately, haha. :-P
      And I'm sure you're doing an amazing job! All the best!

    I enjoy writing notes, but I'm am in grade 10 and in grade 9 my school gave everyone in my grade iPads to use, and everyone hates them but the teachers. None of my teachers in semester 1 grade 10 used them but all 3 of my regular classes are saying that we have to use them, and they weight like 10 pounds. To make it worst my period 1 teacher said that we can not have our bags in the room and we can not have our coats in the class and that we are not allowed to charge our devices in the class. I know I am lucky to have the iPad but you have to realize that nobody in my grade has ever used technology to this extent for school and that we did not realize that the teachers could one day be like " take out you iPads " and the next week you would need pencil and paper but you would bring both to class since you don't know what the teacher might want you to use next.

    • @ioanahayman
      @ioanahayman  Před 6 lety +2

      Aww, that sounds very restrictive, which is unfortunate. But as you suggested, the iPad is pretty cool and it can definitely be used for super-great notes! In fact, when I go to university next year, I'm planning on switching up my notes a bit to make them more digital. If you find an app that lets you take notes both in text and handwriting, you could merge the two systems and still get to write the notes! It would be more practical and easy to carry than a binder too. Good luck! :-)
