Thanks Ben, took your advice and got the RC-500. Spot on accuracy, fun, creative.... This looper seems a lot easier to use than my previous looper, which was not a Boss. I have an easy time hitting the one for seamless loops with the RC-500. On my previous looper, I struggled. I think part of the advantage is the accuracy of the system software and sensitivity of the physical switches on the RC-500. As you recommended, I got the Nectar Pacer for use with Ableton and Logic Pro X. Those are great for recording and working alone, but I find the RC-500 is a better option for working with my band and fast creative songwriting. You noted that the RC-500 is better for live situations, I agree, although I did try to use the computer instead, at first. Finally, gave up on live looping with Ableton and Logic and got the RC-500. Instant success. Boss has really come up with a versatile product that works right out of the box. I will probably take your course on the RC-500 to see how you use the Nectar Pacer with it. The Pacer really opened up doors for Logic Live Loops (I'd love to know what controller assignments you use!), so expect the same for the RC-500.

Two big flaws with this pedal are that it needs to allow program change messages to control the 8 assignments, not just CC's and it needs a normalize function for the audio loops.

Thank you for an excellent review, Ben! I truly appreciate it. :-) What I love most with the Boss RC-10R is the very musical, drummer-like approach in the rhythm section. My musical taste is rather old-school (mostly 60ies and 70ies music and blues), and the intro-verse-fill-chorus-endings in the RC-10R make the machine behave like a live drummer. It also makes the music much less static. The sheer number of different styles (280 of them) also helps. So, to sum up: The RC-10R and RC-500 attract different musicians and musical genres. I have high hopes for the future, where the successors of these machines will give us even more wonderful possibilities. :-)
And thanks for the heads-up on Nektar Pacer. I will definitely check it out. The main disadvantage of the RC-10R is the number of buttons.

Wonderful video, Ben, thank you. I'd love to know how well the RC-500 might work synced with an RC-10R, to use the RC-500 to control the functionality that is missing in the RC-10R, but in order to have access to the RC-10R's more robust rhythms.
Have you tried syncing the RC-500 to the RC-10R? If so...
    1) Does it sync with a standard aux cord like with the two RC-500s, or do you need the Boss midi cable?
    2) Can you sync specific drum beats from the RC-10R to the RC-500s memory, or would you have to select them each time?
    3) Will the RC-500 as master and RC10R as slave allow the RC-500 to start and stop the rhythms on the RC-10R while the loop is continuing to play on the RC-500 (for breaks)
    4) If the two pedals are synced, will the slaved RC-10R detect the tempo from a free form loop recorded on the RC-500 and match it?
    7) Is it possible to use rhythms from the RC-10R on the RC-500 by downloading them onto the RC-500 via USB and a computer?
    8) Is there anywhere to see what rhythms are available on the RC-500? I downloaded the manual and parameters guide, but did not see the rhythm names. I was hoping to see how much overlap there is with the RC-10R. Like, does it have Blues, Funk, Pop, Rock, Country, Ballad, etc.
I'd love to see a video of the two paired, if they work well together.
    Thank you!

Hello and congratulations for your channel, I always follow you.. I wanted to ask you for some info: I have the RC500 and I would like to know if it is possible to start the song by creating a drum kit with the guitar "but not letting the public hear it and therefore not letting it go out from the speakers" but simply record it in the RC and then use it for example in the middle of the song, maybe there is a function? Thank you!

I have a problem with mine, I discovered you can use the assign feature to set the boss fs6 to control vatiation and turn rythm parts off. However I have timing issues, it seems like sometimes it change the time of the loop i just did and makes ir sound out of time. Have this happened to any of you?

I totally agree about the lack of gain adjustment and headphone out. Do you ever operate the unit in single play mode as opposed to multi? For example record a 4 measure T1 and a 10 measure T2? I’ve noticed that when you disable loop sync, in order to do this, it seems to also disable tempo sync as well, even if you have it turned on... seems to be a bug... hope they fix it. I use MIDI to call up the memory patches from my iPad set list app, where I store rhythm at various tempos. Thanks for your reviews. I will check out your guide.

    Hey really love the videos.
I was wondering if you figured out how to route the recorded microphone to Output A and keep the Instrument A and B routed to Output A and B? I'm able to get my unrecorded inputs/outputs in this configuration, but whenever I record microphone it is mixed to both Outputs.
To give a little insight, I'm trying to route Vocals (XLR) and acoustic guitar (INST A) to Output A which goes to a PA. Then I'm trying to route Bass (INST B) to Output B which goes into a bass amp.
I tried changing the T1/T2 Input to MIC/INST, but this causes both my INST inputs to be mixed. No luck.
    Thanks,

I bought the FS6 pedal today for the express purpose of moving up and down in my memory settings on the RC 500. I followed your instructions on another video on the set up and did everything right as Far as I can see. I am using a balance cable, moved all switches to the right. In the memory control section I set Cont ped 1 for moving uo and 2 for moving down. Both a and b only control the memory up. B should be moving it down as the setting select but moves it up. What am I doing wrong?

Seeking advise please . I've recorded a guitar guide track on track 2 for a bass track to be recorded on track 1. I'm having to listen to the whole of track 2 to start the recording of the bass on bar/measure 1 on track 1 , I make loads of mistakes on the bass and keep having to go round again waiting for bar 1 to retry . Frustrating and time consuming. My question is how can I play track2 from bar 1 and record on track 1 also from bar 1, ie straightaway, is it at all possible or any suggestions or work rounds gratefully received. Thanks

Hi there Ben! Thanks for the great review! It inspired me to buy one as well as your Udemy Course which is fantastic! I'm just having one problem which occurs when trying to setup verse/ chorus in single track mode with track change set to loop end while sending MIDI to my Roland TR8-S. I have Quantize set to measure and It works as expected except for one important problem. If the loop length the first loop is an even number of bars eg an 8 bar loop then the loop on Track 2 also needs to be an even number of bars eg 2,4,6,8 etc. Conversely if the first loop is and odd number of Bars eg a 3 bar pattern then the other track needs to have either 3, 6, 9 bar pattern. If track 1 is say 16 bars long and I try to record a 17 Bar section on track 2, it automatically adds an extra bar so it becomes an 18 bar section. I'm using FREE Measure mode on both tracks which I thought meant that each track could be any number of bars without being related to the other. I was able to achieve this easily with the RC 300. Is there a way to use the RC-500 in this way where the measure numbers of each track can be unrelated? Many thanks! PS i've tried emailing Boss Tech support but have had no replies.

    • @angelesk9382

Yo think I might've found this LOOP LENGTH
Specifies the length to which LOOP.S (p. 3) aligns the beginnings of the material for loop sync.
AUTO The length of the first-recorded phrase will be the LOOP LENGTH.
1-25362 Manually specifies the number of measures that will be looped.
so if you set 1it's ok, the default is AUTO which makes the above which is why the subsequent loops become a multiple of said above. someone should make a video of this in case anyone is having trouble. happy looping

I was looking at this unit compared to the rc10r and honestly outside of the 13 hour recording I don’t see the benefits. The drums sound like dr rhythm 880 circa 2000 in both units. Both need extra external foot switches to get better use from the units. I don’t like the display on this unit it’s worse than the rc10r which is no better but has more defined view of timing. I guess I will keep at the rc10r for awhile maybe singular sound will release a combo beatbuddy looper.

I typically don't make loops, I make short 2-3 minute backing tracks. So, my question to you is do you now how much time each track can hold????? I can usually get around 4 minutes of content on my RC-20 with each of the 11 channels. Did I hear correctly that the 500 has 99 channels??? Please let me know. Thank you for your video contribution, very well explained, the most important functions have now become clear to me.
BTW: I also like your great music contributions, my great respect for them!
Now I still have a question. Somewhere on youtube I saw a video about an (rather expensive) Boomerang III Phrase Sampler. This looper has a pretty cool feature that is:
You can create loops that are a multiple of the length of the master. For example, if master loop is 4 seconds long, the other loops can be 4, 8, 12, 16... seconds long
    Let's assume the following:
Loop Sequence 1 covers the length of 2 bars, so it is twice as long as Sequence 2 or Sequence 3.
The Boomerang Looper is able to record and play loops with single or double bar lengths to the same bank and ist also able to sync them on playing.
What I want to ask I try to formulate as a notation:
Record Loops Sequences 1-3 one after another to the same bank:
    Count|1234|2234|
Seq1 |:♪♫♪|♪♪♫:| (length 2 bars on one Loop Rec)
    Count|1234|
Seq2 |:♫♪♪♫:| (lenght 1 bar on Loop Rec)
    Count|1234|
Seq3 |:_♪_♪:| (length 1 bar on Loop Rec)
Result Play Loop Sequences 1-3 at the same time:
    Count|1234|2234|3234|4234| a.s.f. ...
    Seq1 | ♪♫♪ | ♪♪♫ | ♪♫♪ | ♪♪♫ | a.s.f. ...
    Seq2 |♫♪♪♫|♫♪♪♫|♫♪♪♫|♫♪♪♫| a.s.f. ...
    Seq3 |_♪_♪|_♪_♪|_♪_♪|_♪_♪| a.s.f. ...
