Congratulations to the whole production team for this fantastic and complete documentary. I confess that I was very pleased with the editing choices and the whole context explored in the film. Being European, I had no idea about many of the specificities and atrocities committed against the LGBTQI+ community in the United States. It's sad, but at the same time it's incredible the work and achievements made over the last decades. The fight continues!❤
God Bless all the LGBTQ people that have suffered and paved the way for acceptance and justice that we enjoy today. We may not be completely there, but we have come a long way.
YES, come a long way. And yet when hate is expressed, acted on, and accepted *publicly* by large portions of the population as it is now, it's hard to know what to think. Both things are true at once -- much more acceptance and justice AND an unchecked explosion of completely open hatred and terrifying attempts to silence those they hate.
Hi, I'm watching the full documentary now and re-remembering how horrific things were 50, 60 and more years ago, how there essentially was no coming out, how the very very few who were open risked lethal violence in ALL places. Yes, at this moment, there is a huge spike in acts of hate of all kinds in the US. However, there are now many parts of the country where LGBTQ people can live in a way that could hardly be dreamed of two generations ago. We have come a long way.
William Friedkin directed Cruising but well before that...He made The Exorcist, in which the killer this will explore.... appears in! It's why he made Cruising in fact.
I kind of want to watch this, but if the music is as off-putting and dramatically overpowering as in this trailer, then I probably won't make it through the first 20 minutes.
Or, maybe they don't want to glamorize and valorize a depraved serial killer? So, instead HBO focused on saying the names of and showcasing the tragic loss that occurred each time the killer claimed another victim.
