As an ex-Lifeguard, I have to say that dealing with parents who didn't understand why those neck floats and water wings aren't safe was one of the scariest parts of the job.

My dad immediately said where was it made, there was a tag saying “from Guatemala”. I then went onto research if there was forced slavery in Guatemala and there wasn't much information (wonder why...) but there was enuf to tell me yes, there is slavery and Guatemala and it is poverty stricken. We played Jarts in the 70’s. Of course ‘we’ were grown women. All of the kids weren’t allowed in the part of the yard where we were playing. No one ever got hurt, but if thrown hard you could accidentally impale one with another one. You felt how stiff that plastic is, just imagine what it could do to flesh!
