- Hi Guys!
On this video we ask the question would you live here? EXPATS CHOOSE AZORES IN 2024 AND BEYOND! Come along with us and our special guests as we take a road trip along the coast and highlands of Pico Island.
On this sunny day, we will visit 3 quaint rustic villages nestled along the Atlantic ocean. These villages are small and date back 150+ years. These authentic village homes are made from black lava rock, most are raw and not painted. As we walk along these streets, it really feels that we are going back in time.
After lunch it's time of the second part of our road trip, we start the drive up to 1200 meters altitude above sea level. We will visit the mountain lodge, where you sign in to climb to the highest altitude of Portugal, Pico volcano mountain.
Along the drive up, we take in amazing green dramatic landscapes, not too mention an encounter with wild goats. We also stop by one of the popular lakes on the way back down to the coast.
This video gives you a glimpse of what the Azores are al about; here you can experience both the ocean and the countryside. Not too many places left on the planet like the Azores.
Before the end of this road trip, we would love for you to answer the question: Would you live here, full or part time? We hope you enjoyed spending this time with us.
Love having you with us on our journey
Carlos & Laura
xoxo

Yes, I would live there in a heart beat at least part time, but hubby wouldn’t, shows no interest. Can’t get enough of your videos, love the coast line and all the homes, cottages, just beautiful. It is nice to see the other islands from there. Enjoy your time there. Take care!
I had a feeling you would. Can't go wrong with living or visiting these islands. Cheers!
Your channel helped inspire us in our move to the Azores. Life here has been very special. ❤
Glad we played a part, we are extremely happy for you. Take good care!
YES PLEASE!!
Off season slow travel...a winner. I never understand people doing as many islands as possible in two weeks...trying to fly from island to island and snapping as many pics as possible to look at home where they have been, find out they have forgotten where they were taken. You are absolutely right that these moments you sit and calmly watch the scenery those are the moments that imprint, hastily travel from place to place is not a holiday, it is just staying in the same rhytm you need to escape from.
I always say the the Azores is not for everybody, thank God. I also know that more and more of the nature slow travel like minded are finding their way to these unbelievable islands. Take good care!
Yes absolutely.... it's on my bucket list to live there
Great to hear! Cheers!
Gostei muito de ver esse lindo vídeo com essas lindas paisagens com essas lindas casas muito bem feitas obrigado mais uma vez muito lindo ❤️👍👍
I would love to live part time in the Azores. I'm Azorean on both sides, we will be there to visit hopefully in the fall. Thank you for all your informative videos.
Ola Carlos and Laura. I would live there 👍I have never been to visit the Azores it is on my bucket lists. Looking at your videos gives me the hope that one day I will be there. Loved the lava rock neighborhood. Wow !!! what an ocean view. Great video also liked the dinosaurs 🦕 Muito obrigada ate proximo video USA 🇺🇸
Glad you enjoyed the video, Anna. I'm sure you will make it over at some point. These islands are very unique, not too many places left on the planet like them. Take care!
I would love to live there!
We bought on São Miguel and visited Pico this week. Would I move there? Absolutely! The laid back vibe is peaceful and the people are very welcoming!
That is awesome, we love Sao Miguel as well. The main difference between Pico & Sao Miguel is the low population to more island space. The vibe is definitely laid back, quite and peaceful. Although, it can get louder during the festivals!! Take care!
Nice video. That is a gorgeous drive. While i was there in April, my gracious host took me around the island on this very drive and the views are absolutely stunning. I recommend any of your viewers to do this drive, it really is beautiful. To answer your question, yes i would definitely live there!
I had a feeling you would say yes! The more you visit, the more you discover! Cheers!
Happy to hear Carlos survived that Stegosaurus chase! 😂
I barely survived, almost smashed into a lava wall. lol. Take care!
It’s nice out there, I have been in pico island once and we travel there and had a cup of coffee nice view it looks like they did some upgrades since the I was there !
!
All the islands have something to offer. They are all changing, little by little. Cheers!
Yes, I would in a heartbeat.
Yes, I absolutely could live there. We are going to visit soon to decide which island.
Beautiful video. The coastal villages seemed so quaint and serene. Yes I would live there at least part-time and perhaps one day I might!
Great to hear! Glad you liked the video! Cheers!
Nice video Carlos! I’ll be there in August at our family house, maybe i’ll see you then if you are still there. Enjoy
Thank you, glad you enjoyed the video. I will still be in Canada, next time! Enjoy your time on Pico. Take care!
I will for sure, that's the goal :)
Great! See you on the islands! Cheers!
❤😂Ola amigos, obrigada por partihar this beautiful island, beijinhos Alice do Canada 🇨🇦
Obrigado, para estar com a gente. Muita saude para voce.
Beautiful vlog! Would love to live there for a short visit to explore
That is awesome, any time is a good time! Cheers!
My wife and I would love to live there. The difficult thing is how to fund it. Not a lot of jobs in my sector there and I'm not anywhere near being at a place to retire.
I totally understand. I believe that more jobs will come to the islands, worth keeping an eye on it. We will definitely share anything new. Take care!
One day we will meet you, there......working on making the dream come true....that call is so strong......love from Slovakia
You never know, the islands are waiting! Take good care!
Something tells me that eventually we will live here. Pico is just too beautiful to live anywhere else. Plus there are eight other islands to visit for vacation. Maybe in a few years the finance ministry of Portugal will resolve the double taxation issue for certain U.S. retirement plans. (Not looking for 'free', just something reasonable). We would love to live there and invest in the local economy.
😊 As I have decided to retire away from Europe, I probably wouldn't but, if for some unknown reason I at some point have to come back to the old continent, there are only 2 places I would consider living:1. The Azores and 2. Sicily so yes, I would definitely consider but, would probably live in either Faial or Sao Miguel... Thanks a lot for sharing... 🌹🌹🌹
That is awesome, the Azores will always welcome you. Take good care!
@@ourjourneyonpicoisland-car552 Thanks so much both of you 🤗🌹🌹🌹
I just spent 8 nights and days (not nearly enough but... Work needs to be done in Dublin) in Terceira and, you simply wouldn't believe how many absolutely lovely people I met, also on this, my visit to the 5th Azorian island within the last year.. Or, you probably would believe me, yourselves living in these islands.. 🤗
Thanks to all Azorian people and, thanks to all Cape Verdians living there, knowing I likewise love their wonderful islands... But that's not "just" 9 islands but many more and, all of them and not least their people being some og the most lovely on our planet.. Please give them all a LOT of hugs Laura and Carlos and, let them know, I already look forward to my next visits...
What a busy retirement in sight... spanning over not less than 3 continents...it's like when I couldn't wait to turn 18..this time I just have to bring my laptop.. Money have to be made to be able to keep visiting all these lovely people and their countries... 💕❤️💕
Have a lovely weekend on Pico - if you're home!!
@@Jetmab04 Sounds like you had a really nice Azorean experience. Appreciate you sharing, until the next time! Take good care!
@@ourjourneyonpicoisland-car552 Absolutely and, every time I'm in these islands - must be the vibe of the people there 😊
Beautiful scenery, thanks for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching. Cheers!
Once again a very special video from Laura & Carlos. Thank you very much! On my next adventure, I will leave my new home in Austria in July 2024 and approach the "Nine Sisters of the Sea" via the island of Santa Maria. Of course low and slow. I'm already totally excited...
Best regards from Bjorn
Thank you so much, glad you liked the video. That sounds like an amazing trip, enjoy! Take good care, Bjorn!
I would live there. No problem meaning Terceira lol 😊😊😊
Great! We also love Terceira! Cheers!
Beautiful video guys!!!!
Hope to be there again this year, this time in September 😃
Thank you, Maria. You will, safe travels! Cheers!
Lol would love to live there!!! BUT not having the proper infrastructure like a hospital I don't think we could. Maybe Terceria or San Miguel. But no proper inventory. Unless you want a ruin
This is an area that needs to improve. The islands of Sao Miguel & Terceira have the best hospitals. Cheers!
We would love to live here, how is it possible
Do people still build using stones? How do they do it? I’d like to see how it’s done.
They sometimes use stones to build, especially to keep the old heritage look. It's very expensive, only a few professionals can do it. Cheers!
Thanks. Next time we go to Pico I’ll try to find someone who’s doing that kind of construction. Years ago I watched some church restoration going on in Pico; really interesting to see how they did that.
We love Carlos and Laura but, no, we would not live on Pico Island. It is desolate, boring, and we rarely see any people in the videos.
Glad you like us. You are right, Pico and most of the other islands are more for those looking for nature, peace, quite etc. The bigger populated islands like Sao Miguel and Terceira will have a lot more people and lively activities. Take care!
Yes, maybe for a month, my wife has a disability, the Azores Islands are not really friendly for the disabled.
We hope the Azores become more disability friendly. Staying for a moth would be time well spent. Take care, John! Cheers!
No islands for me.
Islands are not for everyone. You should visit at some point! Cheers!
Hey Carlos we found a home in pico we are ready to buy would like help with banking financing lawyers etc really appreciate thank you
That is awesome, Manuel. Send me an email and I will then give you a list of who we have use. soareacarlos64@gmail.com
No definitely not. It's beautiful. But looks like a dead horse island to me.
Not sure what dead horse means, exactly. Some of the islands get pretty active. For constant city like action, must choose somewhere else. Take care!
