The real party was done by the guy who went to the theatre 428 times !!!!
Wow, He must be a movie reviewer
If I can find 5 decent movies that are worth going to in a year, I consider that a Win.
No MoviePass, No AMC A-List. Forever grateful that MoviePass walked so A-List could run.
100% agree!!
Preach. A list is a god tier deal.
Moviepass was started in 2011 but it didn't become big until 2017 when Helios and Matheson bought moviepass and lowered the price to $10, Odeon which operates in UK and is owned by AMC had already started doing their own subscription in 2016 a year prior to Helios buying moviepass, Moviepass might of had a affect on what AMC ended up priced a-list at but they were already on that path. Moviepass once Helios took over in 2017 was never a viable business plan and only managed to stay in business for a year, rather then the 5 years MP was operating before that., for $10 a month for a movie everyday, unlike theaters that make their money from concessions and not from tickets which they can take the loss on, MP didn't have that option. Also nowadays there pretty much a subscription for everything, so even if MP wasn't a thing the movie theater subscription would of still happened. People give MP too much credit, they kind of fall in the the right ideal, but didn't know what they were doing category.
THIS
FACTS
This trailer is every single documentary cliche rolled together
Haha I’m missing Paris Hilton saying something like: You’re never gonna believe this.
Missing the old HBO
Word
When MoviePass began putting restrictions on membership the movies that could be watched, and when AMC A-List came out around the same time, it made switching a pretty easy decision. But MoviePass will forever be in my heart as a moviegoer’s first love.
I used this service so carelessly. I would go to the same movie 3 times in a week so I could split it up and watch it over my lunch breaks. 2018 was great.
If Dan Murrell's not in this, I'm going to be disappointed.
ditto!
😂
Was thinking the same thing…and double for Chloe, the Director of Barketing!
Who?
@@KK-pm7ud Look up Dan Murrell Movie pass.
Movie pass was awesome!!! I paid them $90 for the year and charged over $1000 in tickets. How was that not awesome!!!??? Used it to the bitter end. Now I pay A-list $276 a year and I STILL charge over $1000 in tickets! Love this so much!!
Same, they lost a lot of money because of me
As long as people buy concessions they'll make money
@@danielrio19 the theater yes. but moviepass did not earn from concessions.
Dan Murrell should definitely be in this!!
these docs are all so formulaic i feel like ive seen this same film 100 times already.
That's ultimately the problem with them. Some are honestly made and original, others are just made to create content and they don't really care about telling a story or being original. A lot of Netflix's sports documentaries are like this.
Looking at the trailer, I don't think this will be honest. It's very clear MoviePass wanted to use their product to snake their way into getting a cut of other movie theater revenue, like from concessions. I bet they would even have forced theaters to charge for parking. They couldn't get away with it like BlackRock and the other private equity firms did.
I swear, if they try to make Stacey Spikes (the black guy who was forced out of MoviePass) into the victim, I am going to laugh. Dude immediately went on to Kickstarter and started up a company called "Preshow" which he raised over $50,000 for, released an app that didn't work, and then just took the money and left.
Sounds like there needs to be a documentary on 'Kickstarter'
If Dan Murrell isn’t a central character in this movie, it’s not even worth it.
I can't wait for his review!
As soon as I saw the thumbnail, I thought, "oh Dan Murrel has GOT to be in this!"
Who?
I got my moviepass from Costco! I live in the city so I had lots of movie theaters near me including one within walking distance. I saw about 35 movies and it was the best thing ever!
This should actually get a theater release.
It is so Meta. The failing movie industry made a documentary about a failure in the movie industry and then are again failing to capitalize by putting the doc in theaters. And no surprise it is Warner Bros studio making yet another mistake.
Just watched this documentary last night! Great job, Moviepass was beloved and its meteoric rise and fall is worth watching. There is a sequel to this waiting to happen, it involves the same people Ted Farnsworth , Rod Vanderbilt, Hudson Bay Capital, and many others. Vinco Ventures is essentially Moviepass 2.0 as it is briefly mentioned towards the end of the movie. Please tell the story of Vinco Ventures - Moviepass 2.0
This doc could've been a 5 minute Vox video
Then how else are they gonna get you to watch the next doc: HBO max HBO crash.
@@cnl1213 on Hulu
I literally saw EVERY. SINGLE. Summer movie that year. I ate more popcorn than I ever will again in one season 😂. And then theaters ruthlessly blocked any possibility of middlemen and destroyed any chance of the rebooted MoviePass coming back by making their own movie subscription services. $30 for an Alamo Season Pass has more than paid for itself between The Fall Guy, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, and Furiosa but I always end up spending more on food than I mean to there haha 😅.
i hope this is a tight feature length, and not a 6 part docu series that wastes 23 mins on an anecdote about a start up party story just to milk time.
They should’ve interviewed me and my girlfriend we literally watched a movie almost every day for like 3 months straight
MoviePass brought us the cinematic gem Gotti, so it will forever be special
I remember the Mission Impossible movie was the big movie that brought all the cracks to the surface!
I just commented that. After that it never was the same tho I still squeezed some more movies out of it.
Can’t wait to see the coverage on the documentary.
I got this in 2018. The first movie I saw was a quiet place. I saw over 60 some flicks. Mission impossible fallout was the first movie it gave me an issue with.
AMC-A LIST ❤️
Yet Redbox still exists😅
Movie pass was great when it first came out. I saw EVERYTHING!
I was too young for napster but I DEFINITELY remember the golden age of Movie Pass 😎
Napster was the best. And then came Limewire.
I loved my Moviepass!
Lol i loved this... I still remember when it first came out thinking who would pay 60$ of 50$ a month for movies but then they lowered it to 20$ 1 movie a day was amazing... I went just because I was hot or on break just to catch a few minutes from work. hahaha Never had any issue till they started messing around their policy. Wish their comeback would be just as good...
We lost over 50k on the stock and saw about 10 movies..equates to $5000 per ticket. Will never trust that train wreck again!
Just saw this today. Really good.
What show is this?
Waiting for the documentary about the wave of who-cares documentaries about failed corporations
They should've just called this MovieCrash
It's literally the second word of the title. Do you not read?
Can't wait!!
Shine Bright Always
Can't wait!
I REALLY loved movie pass
take a shot everytime someone says moviepass
I took full advantage, while it lasted... but 428 time?! I really thought I was doing something! Pfft! 😂
@m.coleman that was me before assigned seating at movie theaters. It was easy to slip in and not be worried that I was in somebody else's seat.
Waiting for the GamePass documentary..
Not everything needs a documentary.
Streaming apps thanking the 2010s tech boom and crash for the endless content
looks interesting
unlimited cards for 20 euros have existed for 20 years in France.
Sign me up. Can’t wait to see this train wreck. I had their card and basically the last couple months you couldn’t go to a movie at all. They locked it down to where you had to send them a ticket stub to the movie and then you were paying for a service that literally stopped working.
In the end, things are not very good for MoviePass after the last few years
Bbig !!!!!
I really hope John Campea is in one way or another in the show or clips of his show. He covered Movie Pass for years from beginning to end. Analyzed and talked about everything going on. Check out his videos on Movie Pass to know the whole story. He did an incredible job covering it's downfall.
Did he? I feel like every time I've seen him say anything he was wrong about everything.
Campea or Dan Murrell?
I never cared for movie pass because I didn’t care too see every movie in theaters. Blockbusters and big cinema releases are the only worth watching in a theater to me. Even though I’m a cinephile, I use to (and still do) always wait on the low budget and bottom tier I wanna watch hit TV or the streaming sites.
it’s gamestop all over again if you know you know
Yeah you do it… but I do it
If a documentary made it to HBO, you KNOW it's a scandalous story
HBO maybe say what movie this is somewhere in the title?!
God Bless movie pass!! Best thing ever. I knew it wouldn’t last lol
Alamo Drafthouse Season Pass was my moviepass. And drafthouse was the best theater around anyway.
It's horrible.
MoviePass was a real good year for me
MoviePass today, is great! Especially if you live in the Memphis metropolitan area like I do, we DO NOT have AMC, Regal or Cinemark theaters. No movie subscriptions available. I used to have Regal sub when I lived in Hampton Roads VA. MoviePass works for our theaters in Memphis and I’m glad it’s back on track.
It was so fun while it lasted
first
If it weren’t for movie pass we didn’t get a list
Not sure this was worth a documentary this literally lasted like 2 years
A doc about Moviepass... nah, I'm good
MoviePass was awesome... when it worked as intended. 🤷
What a waste of a "documentary". I worked at a theater when this was introduced. It did turn out terrible, but the general public didn't care about it. People who wanted to see bollywood films wanted to use it most of all, but it wasn't included in their subscription. Yes it led to theaters doing their own passes, but this is a waste of time. I doubt people that don't know of movie pass will care to watch this.
This doesn’t deserve to be a movie. I’ll skim the Wikipedia page in 30 seconds and be fine
It's got more information than you would expect
