In the meantime, I wanted to make a quick video on the difference between how a couple of nearby McDonald's and Burger King restaurants have been handling things as lockdown eases and businesses start to reopen.
Spoiler alert: their situations couldn't be much more different. At the time of posting, McDonald's has quietened down and remains Drive Thru only. This particular Burger King remains closed.

i was really shocked to learn there are so few burger kings in the u.k, i’m from the u.k. and in my city there are 4, 3 of which are in walking distance of each other
Yup, I was too! And I wonder how many of them will be reopening after the pandemic. This one has reopened since I made this video.
Great video I just subscribed. We had a lot of Burger Kings in the USA closed.
Thanks dude, appreciate it. Interesting! I'm not sure it could ever disappear for good though...right?
this is brilliant
That's a shame about Burger King. I prefer them over McDonald's. Burger King has a tasty double cheeseburger.
I had never dug into the stats before and was surprised that they were in such a distant third place over here. Maybe they'll bounce back! Supposedly Wendy's is due to come to this side of the pond some time this year, but I wonder if that will be delayed due to coronavirus.
The UK seems to maintain it's appetite for American brands. We have Taco Bell now.
@@camo7886 Yes! They're not super common yet, but they're around and seem to be expanding quickly. If only they'd add Baja Blast to the menu...
@@DeadMallWalking I have spent a lot of time in Texas and yet have never had Taco Bell. I was excited enough when the UK got Chipotle.
@@camo7886 Taco Bell is such a different beast, it's like it's not even Mexican food at all. That said, I'll never turn down a volcano beef burrito with Mexican fries.
That’s the big problem with Burger King in this country, very rarely have a drive thru, often in places you actually have to drive to. The quality is miles above McDonald’s food but they’re just not competing with McDonald’s because I can’t be bothered getting out of my car, going inside and standing in a queue to get my food. Yes I’m lazy but so is everybody else, get with the program BK and build locations with drive thru facilities
Yes! I have no idea why the majority of them don't have a Drive Thru, makes me wonder whether a lot of them were built before the explosion of McDonald's and the Drive Thru became normality?
i live in newmarket. for years we have had only one fast food restaurant out of the main three, which is burger king. Finally, we have just opened a brand new, state of the art mcdonalds, which opened last week. Burger King is now struggling, as it has close competition, and when i mean close, i mean it; just a few hundred yards away.
Interesting! I don't know about you but, for me, McDonald's and Burger King scratch two very different itches. I'll often go for snacks at McD's, whereas BK tends to feel more like a full-on blowout. But maybe that's just me.
@@DeadMallWalking yes i have mcdonalds as a snack too
Are these filmed on a phone? The quality is pretty good.
Thanks! There's some iPhone footage in there, but it was mostly shot using a DJI Osmo Pocket.
@@DeadMallWalking ah ok, that explains how stable it is? I tried making some film of the Point in Milton Keynes on a phone and the footage was terrible, really shakey. Do you put it in your pocket to film?
@@camo7886 Yup, it has a gimbal stabiliser built in to the body...but it does have a few problems. I tend to hold this one in my hand and, if I'm using the GoPro, strap it to a backpack. Would be interested to see that footage if you still have it!
@@DeadMallWalking it's on my knackered old laptop, I'll have a look.
Is this Seaton Burn services?
Just off the A1, yes. It's alive again now, I believe!
That BK is a franchise and the franchisee are more bothered in reopening Starbucks and making new sites instead of sorting out their current. EG Group or Eurogarages is the franchisee.
Thanks for the info! I kinda understand that move; without a drive thru, how much business would they realistically be doing in a day...It's a shame though!
@@DeadMallWalking yes indeed, EG have a reputation for demolishing old little chefs and building Starbucks and the burger King/greggs/subway sites are often abandoned due to low development because eg group are building new locations and they now own asda, frequently closed toilets, heavily inflated prices and no seating meaning people tend to visit mcdonalds. I went to one in early morning near York and it had no toilets and seating in August 2020. The petrol station has more facilities so people use the flyover to the nearby McDonald's.
wow that BK looked horrible
It's not the best...The building used to be a Little Chef, a defunct restaurant chain over here, and the already small space was split into a Greggs and the Burger King you see here. It's back open (for now) but only has seating for around 10 people.
