When I saw the first trailer, I thought it was going to be a glorified Hallmark movie set in Oklahoma instead of upstate New York. She's a no-nonsense scientist. He's an adrenaline junkie storm chaser. But when her entire team gets wiped out by a twister, he'll show her the true meaning of Tornado Season. But shooting a tornado with guns has got to be the most American thing ever!
A friend of mine and I in 3rd grade convinced a group of kids my grandfather killed a tornado by shooting it in the "eye"... just like a hurricane right? Ha!
Yeah, you don't fight Godzilla. You survive it. The only way this movie could have been any good is if their attempt to fight it made it horribly worse.
“Forced and Treacly” perfectly describes what I’ve been feeling about Ghostbusters Afterlife (haven’t gotten around to seeing Frozen Empire yet). It was reverential in a way that almost completely forgot that the original movie was mostly a comedy. In the front 95% of the movie (the pre-Murray/Ackroyd/Hudson portion of the movie), I experienced maybe one mild chuckle at something Paul Rudd’s character said or did, but was stone-faced through the rest, wondering what “the fans” were seeing that I wasn’t.
If this is super popular, do you think we’re going to get a ton of revivals of ‘90s style disaster films? Because I don’t know if the world needs Armageddon 2 or The Day After the Day After Tomorrow.
Twist3rs will have to be about a person who is able, through tech, create twisters for the protagonists to fight. When all is ultimately lost they will crack the tech that allows them to create counter spiral twisters to negate the bad twisters while the protagonists fight on the ground.
Fighting tornadoes with rockets is maybe just a bit too similar to the idea of nuking hurricanes that certain real people were banding about a few years ago for me to be comfortable with it as "dumb movie fun".
I got the pitch for the next movie idea, Bob. Get this: Twisters vs Sharknado This time, the twisters and humans have to team up by equipping the twisters with the tornado killing rockets in order to fight the invasion of the Sharknados. This is the dumbest idea I’ve ever had, but I’d watch it.
This movie lost me at anti-tornado missile. The original movie was so good because it wasn't actually making the tornado a monster, it was just a random act of nature. It's a whole plot point. "you've never seen it miss that house and come after you" - "is that what you think? You have to let go". The movie was about the people, the researchers and their goal to learn more about the storms to save lives (and a love triangle because) it was grounded, hell the movies events played out in real life 20 years after it came out with a real life well known storm chaser(Tim samaras) trying to drop a probe in front of a storm being killed. Like, it's a grounded movie that takes some artistic liberty. This? This just sounds like shark ado without the sharks. It sounds like it misses what made the original great
The story as it's often told (Bob briefly references this) is that Jan de Bont had been working on a Godzilla movie for a while, but that was too expensive because it had multiple monsters in it and when that fell apart it led to the rushed development of the Roland Emmerich Godzilla with just the one monster. Jan de Bont goes on to make Twister and apparently a bunch of the plot points and character types from the kaiju thing end up in that instead. So no, yeah, they literally made the tornado into Godzilla. The Everything Great About guy's video on it this week is riffing about how the movie insists that the F5 that killed Helen Hunt's dad is somehow the *same* as the one they encounter at the end. I mean, yeah, they don't go full Sharknado, but they do go a long way towards making weather... evil. Semi-sentient. It's Jaws-slash-Godzilla levels of "this force of nature doesn't have a grudge against you specifically, but it should looks like it". I haven't seen this one, so I don't know how much worse it is. It sure sounds like the light sci-fi experiment is goofier in this one, but it also seems like the gap may not be a big as in the Jurassic Park movies? It really sounds like a lazy Sunday afternoon stream.
1) As an IP attorney I would both love to see and even contribute to/help you with the trademark explainer video. 2) I spent the first half of this one thinking that they were doing the legacy sequel thing, with Kate being Helen Hunt's daughter (and that's why she doesn't give her last name). 3) I'm so glad you pointed out the semi-flip from corporate scientists versus scrappy scientists, to data scientists versus influencer scientists. I definitely caught that from the first gas station scene.
Twist3rs: The tornado swallowed up some malfunctioning military auto-turrets. Anything just outside wind range is well within shooting range. Third act twist, some turrets only fire self-guided missiles designed for stealth and storm winds.
Twisters four: Chris pratts character creates a device called the wicked witch that can control tornados, but they have to get the device into the tornado. Third act: he manages to do it to multiple smaller tornados in order to fight a big beefy F5 tornado that's gonna destroy the town of the love interest. so he plans on crashing them all together. The twist is it doesn't work, but he does some science mumbo jumbo and figures out that his plan actually kinda worked and he can now control the F5.

I know it was just a throw away line but it is kinda crazy they never did a jaws sequel thats plot was just more sharks! If i remember correctly, although jaws 3 had 2 sharks, i think the first one was just so they could kill it and be like ohhh nooo we made the bigger mom shark mad, whereas a team up of sharks would have been a bit more fun
If Bill Paxton were still alive, I would have welcomed a cameo. But only from him. Any others would have distracted from the spirit of this movie. Yes, even with Helen Hunt or Cary Elwes.

I pretty sure there were multiple tornadoes in the first movie. Although hearing there are sequels for Freaky Friday and Devil Wears Prada this makes way more sense
If this is successful, then I demand that Michael Bay and Ben Affleck get together to do a legacy sequel to Armageddon. This time make it an even bigger asteroid that requires multiple holes to be drilled with multiple nuclear bombs to be dropped down into them, make it an international cast, kind of like how Independence Day: Resurgence did, only make sure Bay doesn't do his racist stereotypes (and the fact he had gay and non-White characters in Ambulance without stereotyping them is a step in the right direction), maybe get Glen Powell to join that film as well (I mean, he's all but guaranteed to be in a Michael Bay film at some point in his career, might as well make it that one just to get it over with), and make sure Aerosmith puts out a new banger love ballad that puts I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing to shame, with a music video directed by Bay, just like he did the I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing music video. Seriously, given how Michael Bay has been reappraised in recent years due to the Disney/Marvel Studios monopoly on the box office, a legacy sequel to Armageddon could be well-received, especially by the critics who will pathetically try and convince you that they didn't call the original Armageddon the death of cinema when it was the highest grossing film of the 1998 box office.
Tornadoes destroying Oklahoma City. Set it just far enough in the future that the proposed 1,907-foot-high Legends Tower has been built, and have it get destroyed by a tornado as the big third-act set piece. There's your _Twister 3._
