Thats a never ending topic but most of the time its a mixture of the musician being screwed over by the church by the church trying to control them,the church demanding too much from them so much to the point they can't work a day job to pay their bills or from either not getting paid enough by the church or the church not being true to their word thus causing the musician developing ways to defend themselves. On the flip side with those potential reasons the musician can get Arrogant and start demanding things they have no place to make demands.
Any decent drummer has two modes: Music mode and drum solo mode. Thomas doesn't have to be on music mode as much anymore because he's already a well established musician that can do whatever he wants, he doesn't just have to be time bitch
