    I finally broke down and got one today.
    I found a local Sporting Goods store that actually sells C.Crane radios - “ off the rack”.
    I walked in , pulled it off the rack, and bought it.
    $64.15 with tax.
    No shipping, no waiting ❗️
    This is a fantastic little radio.
    📻🙂

      It is hard to pay that much for a pocket radio but it’s an amazing little radio. Have fun with it and happy DX. 👍❤️📻

      I may have a problem with it. There seems to be an internal noise, not in other radios, on AM.
      I’ll have to figure it out.
      But I really do like it.

      Hey Jeff King. What store happens to carry C. Crane radios?

    • @jeffking291

      The Grand DXer
      I called C.Crane.
      They told me the name of a sporting goods store chain that carries their radios.
      Can’t think of the name off hand. There just happened to be 1( one) store in my area.
      If I cannot come up with the name tonight, you can call C.Crane and they can tell you.

    Good review TRG. A red ring around the speaker would be awesome. and red numbers to contrast on the buttons. In case you forget the button combos they have them printed on the backside of the battery door. Ditch the belt clip :) oh and FM stereo baby! I use my CCPocket in almost every video I make....not a C.Crane rep I swear :) My first one did have issues with locking up..had to send it in, they gave me a new one.

      @TheRadiogeek  Před 6 lety +5

      Thanks! It does need more color for sure. I think for a high end pocket radio when you look at it you should say "Wow! that looks high end" A red ring or maybe a different color around the speaker with the number 1 button in a different color and all the numbers on the buttons in a highlight color. Maybe a Todderbert edition in Black and Yellow? :) Thanks for stopping by.

    $64.99 sounds like a lot, but Radio Shack was selling digital tuning pocket radios 30 years ago in the early 90s for $69.95, which would be equivalent to about $149 in today's dollars.

    • @TheRadiogeek
      @TheRadiogeek  Před 2 lety

      Yeah it's a premium radio for sure. RadioShack always had way over priced stuff. I only got radios from them if it was on sale.

    One lessons that I have learned over the years as a radio specialist: the design of the best receivers is mainly visible on the inside.

    Been wanting this radio.
    Don’t have the cash right now.
    The “style “ matches the CCSkywaveSSB,
    Which I have. A really amazing radio‼️
    I have two C.Crane radios I bought over 10 years ago. The CCSW and CCSWPocket.
    They make the best radios on the market ‼️......( and I’m not a rep either 🙂).
    Looks like I’m going to be happy with mine-once I get one.

    I was surprised at how poor the reception was of WLS (890 am) considering that you were able to get WMAQ (670 am) and WGN (720 am) much better. I believe that WLS is Chicago's most powerful station.

    • @jkratoville
      @jkratoville Před 5 lety

      I have two of these and have never experienced those types of signal noises on the AM band. It's actually quite good on AM, given its vertical form. I like the Skywave a little better, but for walking around, you can beat this one.

    • @gweagraff
      @gweagraff Před 5 lety

      Peter Atkinson I noticed that too. If I know what you mean by sperious signals. I’ve noticed it mostly on frequencies ending in 00, such as 700, 800, 900, etc. and I think on 97.3 FM as well. I actually just bought a Sangean DT-800 and I haven’t noticed it much on AM, but I noticed it on 95.7 FM. It seems like it thinks there’s a signal but there actually isn’t. Also on my Sangean, when pushing buttons when tuned to 95.7, it emits static. I wonder if it’s something all radios have.

    I'm looking for a decent FM portable radio but all the reviews on CZcams just seem to concentrate only on the AM bands. I am currently using Tecsun PL-310ET and Tecsun PL-606 but I find these radios have very poor selectivity next to strong stations unlike most Car Radios which have much more narrow reception just like the Sony XDR-F1HD. I am looking to replace my Tecsun with a portable radio with selectivity as narrow as a car radio/Sony XDR. Does anyone have any recommendations please?

    • @TheRadiogeek
      @TheRadiogeek  Před 4 lety

      Sorry I'm not much into FM DX but I think you are right that car radios are much better that portable radios. A car radio has to operate in a much nosier environment and has better shielding too. I would get a car radio and some speakers and build a box with a power supply and try DXing with that. good luck and happy DX. :)

    Thank you for the review...I've also watched your review of the Sangean DT-200X..and others..
    Between the CC Pocket and the DT-200X, which do you think is the better AM DXer?..Which has better FM?..Which is the better everyday radio?..Better speaker/headphone?..etc...
    Basically, how do these two rigs compare?
    My Sangean DT-300VW (nice!) has good AM and FM sensitivity and sounds great through headphones but is a little wide and not too particularly selective on either band.
    Does the DT-200X exhibit similar behavior or does it have comparable selectivity to the CC Pocket?

    • @TheRadiogeek
      @TheRadiogeek  Před 6 lety +4

      I have not put the Sangean and CC Pocket head to head yet. I would say that the CC Pocket is made for Dxing and the Sangean is a pocket radio that does very well. Keep in mind that the Sangean is about 1/2 the price of the CC Pocket radio and the Sangean doesn't have all the DXing bells and whistles of the CC Pocket. I will really need to do a shootout with both radios to be able to answer most of your question. I'm not sure how soon I will get to it but it's on my list for sure! Thanks for stopping by.
