@Jaime Wells Glad I could help :D
This is agreat video joel very helpful ,informative i learned a lot and i had fun ☺ thank u so much
Great video. But you use the "classic mambo" footwork (where you pause on beats 4 and 8) rather than the 1,2,3 - 5,6,7 "Eddie Torres modern mambo step" where you don't pause?
There is almost a pause but advanced dances do so much and move so fast you can't see it.
Mr. Dominguez...I came across to another question...I hope you can help me solve...Per your advice, there are some instruments that have 2 bar melodies (8 bits: Piano, clabe, guitar, tromps, etc.) but there are some others that have only 1 bar melody (4 bits: Congas, etc.) so by listening to the 2 bar melody instruments we can differentiate the first bit from the fifth bit. So my question here is: Do all 8 bit instruments WITHIN a song start in the first bit of the song or are there some of those 8 bit instruments that do not start in the first bit of the song and that also applies to the singer as well... In other words, can the first bit of the clabe be equal to the fifth bit of the piano or to the trumps or the singer...If the answer is "Yes", then that would mean that a single song can have many first bits...Many thanks for your patient on answering this question Sir. and I hope I am making some sense...
Helpful info! Thank you!
totally different for now. Thank you!
hello Joel
I have a question about the time of the instruments all that are 8 always start at 1 at the same time?
Thank you! Very helpful!!!
when you show the conga at the beginning of the video..are you moving on2 step (as opposed to on1)? Thanks for sharing. This is really awesome
Joel, just found out that at 1 hr mark..that you have been dancing on 2..
Awesome tutorial..thank you
You have good videos... in the one with the clave beat- you should have demo danced the salsa steps while beating the clave to the beat of 123.or.. 23. 567. Looking for the next video
Hello Winston Clifford thank you for your comment, yes we will make a video dancing with the clave and also explaining how to do it!
Thank you!
Joel
At 51:42 in showing dancing to the 2 3 clavy i would have thought you would have taken 5 steps which is what 2+3 adds up to and would have ended up with the free foot changing. But as I watched the first thing I saw was an additional step. Then I looked at the rhythm and it counted out as 2 3 5 (& after 6) 7 8 which is a 6 step pattern. As this keeps the break always on the same end of the pattern rather than a front break followed by a back break (a normal basic pattern) I'm wondering if this is intended to be a shine which I'm fine with. I can easily see a forward backward pattern working if we had 5 steps. Waiting for your response. After dancing wcs last night you kept me up till 6:00 AM. Good video !!
As one the old time palladium dancers from the 50's we always danced on 234 678 and it was a sacrilege to break on 1. I lived on 53rd street at 415 just 2 blocks away in a cold water flat for $13 a month back in the days when we paid 75c to go to the palladium on wed night. One night I was walking home after teaching at Murray Dales on 49th & Bdwy along with 3 of my fellow teachers and as I didn't have the money they each chipped in a quarter so that I could dance with them. (on 2 of course) Those were the days.
Hello Joel,
Very brilliant video on musicality. Everything is explained in very simple methods and all your examples are easy to understand. Well I have a question. Can we dance on 1 if the Clave is 2-3 and can we dance on 2 if the Clave is 3-2?
It's a great video. Thank you so much. And can you do a video showing the steps with tha clave and the timbals please, it's hard for me try to follow them.
+Andrés Palacio Hello Andres yes we will make a video following the Clave and Timbales. Also please check our last video in our Channel, is an invitation to join 2 Live Salsa Classes that you can watch from your computer or phone!
Please put the names of the songs in description. Thanks.
How can I apply your video if I dance on 1?
you just have to start one beat before (when he makes break) with your left leg ;) and the ONE is just after the TU TUM, or between "2" and tutum
I like 👍
Joel, great video for an advanced beginner. Too much information here, you might scare some people away, but great information.
Haha thank you Clarke Illmatical I was inspired and share a lot but this is just the beginning always is more to learn. Maybe for some people that learned with counting first may be scary but will be one day when this information will make more sense. That is exactly what happened to me at the beginning when I started! Thank you! =)

Video's a little over exposed but great content Joel!
Wonderful video, watched the whole thing, where do you teach in NYC?
jlifaw Thank you! JoelSalsa 519 8th Avenue, 12th Floor, NYC
Why he step with his right feet forward on #1?? Doesn't the guy step with the left feet forward on 1 in Salsa? I'm from LA doing LA Salsa btw.
I think is because he's dancing on 2 just showing the steps in general. NY salsa is on 2 if I'm not mistaken.
he is using the ladies/follower steps ny style on2 timing. the lead/guys steps is reversed when you step with the left in place and break back with the right foot in the 2 beat. dancing with the music you can actually start with diffierent beat just following the right beat as the insturments hit
Great vid!
Can you please do a similar vid for ON1 timing?
Thank you.
Hello youwiztube thank you for your comment, we will create more video for dancers on1, thank you for your suggestion. Please stay tuned and subscribe so you can receive our updates.

Sir Just two points...First point: you teach us how to count and how to follow up the counting and you also teach some methods to find the counting but in the other hand you say stop counting and start dancing. So that is a little confusing... Second point Is a question: would like to buy your videos but I would like to know if I download the video in this computer and then I change to other computer how will I be able to watch it?
+antonio villatoro Hello Antonio the idea of keep the counting is to keep the timing of the music but when I said stop counting is to take your dancing to the next level, means connect to the music. At the beginning you need to keep the timing then you will be able to dance and the music will tell you exactly how fast and how slow you will need to make your moves.
When you buy the access to the videos online you will be able to watch them from any device with access to internet, you will receive your login information so you can watch it from anywhere.
Thank you for your comment Antonio, hope I answered your questions. Joel
+JoelSalsa you actually did aswer them sir..thanks..
antonio villatoro ! r
Joel I'm only 10 min into the video and it's great but are you teaching on1 or on2?
He says in about 7 mins into the vid he dances on 2.
Ok, thanks
another hint..salsa on 1 for the lead starts forward, starts backward on 2..in this video though he says he is doing "ladies" so he starts forward which would indicate he's on 2
Existe la traduccion al español ?
Carlos Ruiz vamos a crear webinar como este pero en español, para mas informacion por favor subscrite al canal para recivir notificaciones y tambien puedes visitar clasesdesalsa . net es la pagina oficial que tengo en español.
Saludos y gracias!

Looking forward to seeing more vids from you! :)
You're teaching on 2 right?
Hello joao in this class I explained more with on2 Steps but once you understand the musicality you can use other instruments to dance on1 as well.
9:36, 17:36, 50:22, 56:02, 1:10:00
without learning this you would like to dance like robot
Musicality on1 please not on2
Good lesson but please not so much talking the first part wasnt necessary & I got impatient & skipped you & went to another one
Musicality video not partner work video. The problem with most dancers is they want to put the carriage before the horse.
español puessssssss!!
Pronto vamos a tener que hacer uno en español gianx zegarra puedes buscar clases de salsa . net es mi pagina en español. Saludos!
