I grew up doing competitive BBQ with my dad and I gotta say, that shot of the brisket in the smoker looked much better than I expected as far as restaurant BBQ
Chefs are built differently. Nothing else matters except making the food as good as it can possibly be. Working insane hours for not enough money, for the payoff of knowing how much pleasure the customer gets when they shove that meat in their mouth. ❤

You need to check out Valentina’s in manchaca, Texas. Just a short drive from Austin. Hands down my favorite Tex mex bbq. Their breakfast tacos (real deal Holyfield) is the bomb!

Kreuz Market in Lockhart, TX, one of the major competitors of the original Black's BBQ, also in Lockhart. Terry Black's is an offshoot of the original Black's Barbecue. Lockhart also has Smitty's Barbecue, which is owned by the daughter of the Original Kreuz Market. The original owner's son now runs Kreuz Market. All 3 are phenomenal, but my personal recommendation is the Big, New Kreuz Market. Best sausage and brisket in the world, IMO.

I lived in Texas for 17 years, and had some great Q between Kerrville, Austin, and points in between. I had to move back to my hometown for family reasons, but when I order BBQ, it's ALWAYS Terry Black's- they get it here in great condition.

Hutchin's BBQ in McKinney, Texas (north Dallas).
My understanding of Texas BBQ, You are in BBQ heaven where you are at, Terry Blacks, Franklin's, Goldees, Leroy and Lewis, to name a few, are BBQ restaurants that are spoken of very highly on CZcams, etc...I live in So Cal, So the two places I go to are Heritage BBQ in San Juan Capistrano and Moo's Craft BBQ in LA, Any other BBQ in Cali might be good, but some times suck!

Black's is pretty good, but I would not call it the best in Austin. Of course, best is subjective.
I think Franklin's is better and la Barbecue is right up there. You won't find it on most top ten lists, but I really, really like the ribs at Ironworks.
Also, they might not be the best barbecue, but they might be the best barbecue experience: Salt Lick.
Done Texas BBQ trips twice now. Folliowed the latest TM BBQ Top 50 and was surprised by many, and even others outside of the Top 50. Terry Black's is always a solid option! Greetings from The Netherlands.

Smittys in Lockhart, Texas. Its close to ATX also the original Terry's is in the same town.
Coupland Dancehall in Coupland is about 40 mins away from ATX. Also a great place, but only serve on Fri-Sat
Then the #1 place in texas is Goldies BBQ up close in Fort Worth. Get there early ( like 7 am) cause they will sell out fast.
Check out Ernie's Pitt BBQ in Greenville, TX. About 30 miles east of Dallas. The smokers are over 50 years old I believe. Lot of flavor in those things!
