Man, call the fire department! It's a 4 alarm fire! 🔥🔥🔥🔥Chaka has one of the best voices in R&B. They did an excellent live performance here! It's such a funky groove! Great for dancing!😍❤
Definitely something good going on here! It’s one thing that this song exists but the fact this stellar performance has been captured and preserved just makes my heart grow three sizes! Chaka clearly deserves her place in the R&B royalty!
One of the best? No one touches Chaka or comes close to the joyfulness & fearlessness that she invests in her singing, not to mention her astonishing vocal range, tone & technique.
Can you imagine? There used to be a time when people had talent, singers could actually sing, and musicians could actually play. It’s mind blowing. Even more mind blowing was that audiences appreciated this talent and could actually differentiate between good and bad. That all ended by the early 80s.
What an absolute CLASSIC! Chaka's voice as she nails every note in this great song written by Stevie Wonder, performed by yet another mega talented band on TMS. I LOVE 70s music, it was the greatest decade.
Wow... Tony Madien is playing a Musicmaster guitar! I've never seen anyone big time playing those guitars. They were a "student" guitar and were not as expensive as a Stratocaster or Telecaster. They were used by cats in the studio and what not, but to see one used on TV was rare.
I love this channel. It's really fun because it's like the curtain goes up and I can finally see what these 70's bands looks like. And after hearing this song on the radio a thousand times, I learned their name today. Rufus.😁
Wow! I’ve heard this song so many times over the years and I assumed it was just the byproduct of amazing studio work. I have a whole new respect for this song now. What a composition and performance ❤
What a freakin' great performance. Chaka Khan is badass. The guitarist is using a talkbox 2 years before Frampton made it famous. The whole band is great. Ah, how I wish music was still made like this.
I remember this song! I haven't heard this song in a long time!! She has a phenomenal voice!! That's some good Funk! 💥 Those were the days... Good Times and Great Music! 💯 Happy Thursday... thank you for sharing! 💖
Real talent, natural beauty. Man, this is just unreal. And I'm so grateful to have been born May 17, 1976! Born right in the midst of some amazing times. This kind of talent and music is what sets "a soul on fire." !!!!
I don't want to take anything away from Chaka Khan and Rufus, I love this performance and will always love Chaka Khan and 70's funk, but there are current bands who groove like this, you just need to know where to find them.
I recently watched Chaka perform on tiny desk, and I couldn't understand for the life of me why she didn't have Tony and Bobby perform with her its mind boggling
I saw Chaka Chan in Napa at a winery maybe around 2015, maybe a bit later. There were quite a few jazz bands that played. But her bass player was awesome and of course she’s really good. Great show.
Thank Chaka also because according to everyone in the studio SHE wrote a majority of the song. ! Ray Parker Jr ( who was working with both Stevie and Rufus/Chaka in 1973) must have told Stevie how fine Chaka was because he came to their session to "check her out " and offered a few songs to them. Chaka who was 19 at the time turned them down. He started playing the genesis of TMSG and was working out the arrangement. During one of the breaks, he and Chaka were on the console, and apparently, he tried to put the move on Chaka. Long story short, he felt her belly somehow and realized that she was like 8 months pregnant----AND LEFT! Leaving them to finish the song. Chaka, wrote a majority of the song but in either December 73 or January 74 Stevie raced to copyright it. And wouldn't allow them to release it if he didn't have to split the publishing. Everyone agreed because they didn't know any better and within a few short months the song BLEW up and the rest is history! The groups next song ( written by Chaka and Ray Parker Jr) blew up and went #1..
You had to have talent to be a musician and an artist back in those days. They are live and sound just as good as on the record and that is what you call. Pure talent young folks take notes!!
She just got inducted into the R+R Hall of fame tonight. The guitarist joined her. This is my 3rd different viewing of my fave Rufus song. And I noticed right off. THEYSE all Coked up man?!?! Geez momma. It's like when your turntable was about gone. Remember doze days? Taze wired man. It's a funky, feeling, soulful song and they are so off the laid back beat...it ain't funny. But hey, that's the down side of the music biz. Seldom have I heard it so obvious.
To me she was the most beautiful singer back in the day. And her voice! Incredible.

@@kevin6667 Absolutely agree!
One of the best? No one touches Chaka or comes close to the joyfulness & fearlessness that she invests in her singing, not to mention her astonishing vocal range, tone & technique.
Rufus playing a budget Fender Musicmaster through a talkbox is my favorite thing right now .. wow
That just sounds so damned good...
That talk box is genius in this song.
I thought it was Tony Maiden ???
That is some deep funk
She's beautiful and a wonderful singer
Chaka and Rufus and this song will always rock !!!

Absolute truth brother.
Agreed
And here I was thinking that the last 40 years of music had some bangers. Lol
Guess not huh...
Not one untrue word!!
Preach
No wonder Prince fell in love as a child with this funky queen!
Really? I fell prey as well. '73 '74.

Wow Chaka is so beautiful here. Great live funk 👍
Rufus brings the funk! Period. End of story.
She’s a hot little thing with the big and sultry voice. One of my favorite songs. Love you babe
THIS is what funk is all about.. one of the greatest songs ever from the 70s

Absolutely fantastic!!

With the incredible CHAKA KHAN! ❤️❤️❤️
Please take me back to the 70s and let me stay there
She makes me wish there were 48 hours to each day.
Wow! I’ve heard this song so many times over the years and I assumed it was just the byproduct of amazing studio work. I have a whole new respect for this song now. What a composition and performance ❤
Best version, I've been looking for this one for years... that rolling hyped up drums is the way!
Extraordinary performance by Rufus and Chaka Khan. Chaka's vocals are pure fire. Stellar musicianship!!!
What a freakin' great performance. Chaka Khan is badass. The guitarist is using a talkbox 2 years before Frampton made it famous. The whole band is great. Ah, how I wish music was still made like this.
Still amazing! And definitely has brought sunshine to this rainy Portuguese day!
I remember this song! I haven't heard this song in a long time!!
She has a phenomenal voice!!
That's some good Funk! 💥
Those were the days... Good Times and Great Music! 💯
Happy Thursday... thank you for sharing! 💖
I bought the original ABC release 45 rpm in 1975. I was still in 6th grade. Guud stuff. Played the heck out of that one.
Those vocals are sublime.
Real talent, natural beauty. Man, this is just unreal. And I'm so grateful to have been born May 17, 1976! Born right in the midst of some amazing times. This kind of talent and music is what sets "a soul on fire." !!!!

This song was HUGE that year! Everyone loved it.
Classic! Shoutsout Stevie Wonder for penning this one
Im sorry, NO ONE groves like this anymore. I dont know if the todays music people know how play this.
I don't want to take anything away from Chaka Khan and Rufus, I love this performance and will always love Chaka Khan and 70's funk, but there are current bands who groove like this, you just need to know where to find them.

Great song. Much radio play when I was young.
I recently watched Chaka perform on tiny desk, and I couldn't understand for the life of me why she didn't have Tony and Bobby perform with her its mind boggling
You told me something good!
I saw Chaka Chan in Napa at a winery maybe around 2015, maybe a bit later. There were quite a few jazz bands that played. But her bass player was awesome and of course she’s really good. Great show.

This is musicianship.
It should be studied in universities.
Oh my.
The GODFATHER of SOUL! RIP
😍😍😍😍 Chaka!!
...Gorgeous
At this point it seemed like every song Stevie Wonder was writing became a hit.
She just got inducted into the R+R Hall of fame tonight. The guitarist joined her. This is my 3rd different viewing of my fave Rufus song. And I noticed right off. THEYSE all Coked up man?!?! Bass player use to be in the American Breed of "Bend Me Shape Me" fame.
Nah, you're referring to original member Charles "Chuck" Colbert, who had left the band in 1970. This is Bobby Watson.
The 🎹 player Kevin Murphy was a member of the American Breed too although he joined after "Bend Me, Shape Me" came out.
The American Breed actually evolved into Rufus.
I LOVE YOU! . . . I LIKE IT!
Oh Kitty!
Motherfunker this is goooood!
👏👏👏
Real music. Today's generation missed the bus. Can't hold a candle. And Chaka still slamming them hits 40 years later.
well... they pay their respects to the golden age of R&B through the sample......, all of the best songs have already been written.....,
@@paradoxward2533 You got that right.
Rufus1974-Chaka Khan: Written by Stevia Wonder for the funk!
Yeah ❤🔥 🔥 🔥
