In this video I explain in depth how to build a Tensegrity table out of basic 2x4 studs with simple tools!! No fancy workshop and no fancy wood here!! It’s an awesome table that gives the illusion that it is floating while it can also hold weight and be functional. Too many people are Cheating and building these with chains or rope, that's too easy!! I show you how to build these so they look as though there is nothing holding it up!! This is a do it yourself project that can take only a few days. I built most of it right in my backyard. Its an impressive artistic piece. There are so many options and ways to go about these particular tables but i explain in detail how to build the suspension mechanism that makes this work. I show you how i use the taut line hitch and the clove hitch to make it "float"! Please subscribe!! I have more cool table and modern artistic builds coming in the near future. - Jak na to + styl
@1:25 Viewers...never make a table saw cut like this, its extremely dangerous. Clamp the vertical piece to be cut to a horizontal piece of wood and run that against the fence.
this needs to blow up
Blow it up!!
Great diy I like
Thankyou appreciate those words
Great video man..
Fabricio Aponte thanks man I appreciate that.
Awesome video. Do you happen to have the measurements for the middle pieces besides just the 32 degrees and 16" on the long end? Thanks.
excellent....
Much thanks
Nice job amigo
I appreciate that thanks
Safety glasses dude! Nice table tho
Yeah osha is always on my back!!
Great video thanks man
Appreciate you thanks man
Nice video man
Rushika Shah appreciate that it was a fun build
I know the physics BUT my eyes refuse to go along with the science.
Use turnbuckles to tighten the peripheral strings.
great video man, love your work :)
Thanks man I appreciate that
Did you ever create plans with the measurements for this project?
What steps did you take to fine tune the wires?
Nicely done and good productiion value as well. Looking forward to your future projects. Sub.
Thank you appreciate that, it was a fun project.
WOW
ReviewDork pretty crazy right
@@IllGetMyTools pretty dope
Idea: If I made one of these, I might use really thin gauge wire. Terminals could be crimped on the end of the wires.
I was thinking the same thing, I like the ascetic of the poly line but people know it it isn't magic
Hello👋🙋♂️ there
Amazing and very interesting project..
Super like👌👌👌
Thanks for sharing👍 new ideas..
Do keep posting.
Warm regards and best👍💯 wishes✨✨✨

What are all the materials? How big were the dolls?
If u put a chain as a replacement for the wire in the center of the table, will that maximize the amount of weight it can hold?
Juan Carlos Rivera sure will, but it won’t look as clean. Many people build the whole thing with chains it just looks kind of sloppy
Get a guitar string for the center wire - - we're talkin' 1,000 POUNDS !!
2 years later, did you find the fishing line had started to stretch? If so, was it easy to retighten the line?
There’s really no weight on it so I don’t see much difference
Thanks!
What about a tensegrity bed??? What do you think? Can it be done???
Great idea! Of course the physics is still the same. You would just need stronger material like a chain or kermantle rope to handle the weight
How do you tie the second end of the string AND end up being taut? You didn't show the ending of that tie.
It was very difficult a ton of fine tuning. The taut line hitch and clove hitches that I used allow you to slip and adjust the knots as needed. It was honestly a pain but was eventually able to make it work. On one side I actually did a double clove hitch on both top and bottom of the table. I had to use needle nose pliers to get into the hole and taught to the nail.
Be sure to warn anyone who comes in to visit.
Yeah they must stay far away haha. It’s actually sturdy enough and moves not much when touched
Which polish u use for this project ??
It’s been a few years I think I just used lacquer in a satin finish
what this intro music?
Why not just use taut line hitches on both sides, staring from the bottom. Doesn't a clove hitch run a risk of slipping? The taut line has no room for error but it would be more secure, no?
It would be, issue was creating the tautness in the small space. I put a safety knot on the clove hitch and it assisted in keeping it from slipping. You have to adjust all 4 lines multiples times it was very difficult so that’s what I came
Up with in honesty.
@@IllGetMyTools yeah, I'm at the same stage but with a smaller version. Cutting my fingers to pieces tightening this line for like the 4th time. That taut line knot is gold for the bottom like you said. I'm also using JB weld wood fill epoxy instead of dowels because the hammering makes me paranoid. So far so good. Just waiting on curing.
Try a Palomar knot. I'm actually about to try to build one of these for the first time but my lifelong fishing experience gives me good insight on knots. A Palomar knot is literally an untiable lot it's basically a cinch knot once you get it to cinch down on it it will continue to tighten down on itself until it can tighten down no further or it will break. But it will never come untied.
What was the length of the Table Arms? Were they also 2ft?
I don’t recall but the average end table is 20”- 24” tall so since the arms overlap I took that into account they may have 18” each
@@IllGetMyTools That was a fast reply, Thank you so much. We are planning to make our own Tensegrity table for our school project, and we're wondering if we can use your video as a reference?
@@maccer8330 absolutely, I love education
How many 2x4s & 2x6s?
2 2x4s for the frame. 1 2x6 to make both arms
Let me give you an idea. Make a chair in the same way. When a person sat, it swayed like a cradle🇹🇷
People have made them already they are pretty cool
@@IllGetMyTools Can you write in Turkish from the translation?
How much weight can it hold?
I put 15 pounds on it and stopped. Issue being the glass is very thin. A thicker glass would of held more weight.
@@IllGetMyTools I'm not trying to sound critical, this was a very cool design and build!
But I can't help thinking the support arms and their connections to the base/top might be pretty weak.
@@davidmortensen5709 it can easily hold a lamp and a book…. Not sure what else you would want to put on a floating table, it’s more of a discussion piece.
Really wanted to see the "fine tuning" details?
Can you please give the width of table legs
Can you please give all dimensions of the table?
The table top is not floating. Its actually hanging and being hoisted in place laterally.
It’s fishing line bro watch the video.
@@IllGetMyTools yea i know. I meant the top piece is hanging by the central fishing line. And it doesnt fall over laterally because the perimeter fishing lines are hoisting it in place.
I don't think anyone assumed it was magic but thanks for clearing that up for those that did
DO NOT use this guy as an example of how to use a table saw!
must be a construction guy
Or how to cover your eyes... Squinting does fuck all to prevent stuff getting in your eyes. Wear safety glasses for fuck's sake
Hey i got no problem with his table saw technique, sometimes you need to be crazy when your starting out and cant afford a real saw like a delta. But why, why , why in the fuck did he not just shim out the short leg so his saw doesnt wobble, that looked hazardous.
You say it should hold 15-20 lbs but, you used 60 lb fishing line. Why would it not hold 60 pounds?
The glass I used for the top is thin and not tempered. If the top was solid wood then yes.
牛逼
Are you the first one to create this? I don't have any bad intention to ask this but if that's the case that you're the one or first to invent this ... Try to search Sonder Evennys.. he's trending for makin' this kind of floating table.
No I’m definitely not the first to create this, there’s as number of videos on the internet of tables such as this But many people just use chains which is much easier to do and not as nice of a look.
And I just saw his video. he posted it quite a few weeks after mine. His table is similar but not as neat. I’m glad he’s trending that’s good for him. So is the CZcams algorithm, I don’t have much subscribers so many people won’t see my video.
@@IllGetMyTools oh I see.. but you have great videos. I was amazed about this video (floating table) .you're amazing. I would definitely suggest to my friends about your channel.
@@IllGetMyTools keep up the good work ^_^ looking forward for more videos, it is just so fascinating to watch a video like this.
Dayana Cole very much appreciated thankyou for those kind words
It's not floating though
No, well, no it isn’t… there’s fishing line holding it up!!!! Can you believe the audacity!!
@1:24 🙄 wtf? its like the worst idea ever, hope this thing has a sawstop ...
Oh yeah that really pissed off people haha
Holy crap dude.... Learn a new way to cut your laps...... If you haven't lost a finger or eye since this video.....
Yeah I know it was just a YT video for a table. Everyone gets up and arms about that cut.
I train guys to use these tools, safely. I will always say something when I see it 😂
Cool build though, I'm going to try one out
