    Works! This only took a few hours to do. I will say there are a LOT of things to get square if you really want it to look good, but despite some slight variations from square, mine works fine. I made mine bigger (300 mm length for the "arms"--the piece you make 4 of) and adjusted the other pieces to suit. I will likely add a second set of cords connecting the bases opposite the one set illustrated in the video. As built, it will "fall" if you put something down on the top near the one set of cords that is shown. In any case, a great video that answered nearly all of the questions I had about building one of these and did allow me to complete the project I had visualized. Cheers!

    This looks amazing 😍 Can I make one using 35mm x20mm wood bars? Or, do they have to be square??

    Tensegrity RELIES ON GRAVITY to work

  • @jabbajawz
    @jabbajawz Před 2 lety +4

    So basically, the middle string holds all the weight of the top structure, and the strings on the side just balances it so it doesn't topple?

    • @normanacree1635
      @normanacree1635 Před rokem +1

      Exactly. Some people would use four 'long' cables to make it much more rigid but it depends on what effect you want to achieve.

    this can colapse in one direction right? because for a tensegrity to be completely stable it needs 3 outer cables

    • @erolozturk5266
      @erolozturk5266 Před 3 lety +3

      As long as the top is in level it does not colapse. To make it 100% safe, you would have to attach a string to each corner. However this would ruin the "magic".

    When choosing the lengths or distances, are there any rules to follow, such as be sure the short piece of wood is more or less than 1/2 the length of such and such or the short string has to be exactly in a certain place?

    • @creativeatolye5812
      @creativeatolye5812  Před 3 lety +1

      There is no specific rule. The centre string can be set up as you wish. The other cords then become correspondingly longer or shorter.

    how does that still work with only 2 of 4 corners of base suspended with the strings? I thought all 4 corners connected were necessary for it to work?

    • @mikeydoesthings7877
      @mikeydoesthings7877 Před 2 lety

      Hey idk if you found out the answer but for other who may come across this, the short answer is because the center of balance is not in the middle, rather it is offset to the side opposite of the long strings therefore the top of the table wants to pull out and away from the long strings. Since it can’t, it stays in place. It is worth noting that this type of design holds drastically less weigh and is susceptible to tipping over to the side of the long strings if enough force is applied

      Make them as long as you wish. Just determine the 'center' cord first and go off of that. Longer is less stable but should hold. There have been foot bridges designed using the principle of tensegrity.
