I had no idea Paul Madeley had passed. Goodness so many of that famous back line no more. Only Reaney left, sri Terry Cooper still kicking (you can stop now Terry!).
I am not a Leeds fan by any means but God they could play a bit. Paul Reaney, Terry Cooper, and Paul Madeley were great defenders. And as that team was coming to it's end the players coming in were also top class.
There is no way you can justify the “dirt “ they dished out ,I watched them from when they came up till they went back down .Between a bent manager (see Bob Stoko ) and the so called football ,I’m thinking you need to get out more or face reality.
@@reggates5205 I am not justifying them at all. Yes they were dirty gets, but they were all great players in their own right. I never liked them at any time but I could appreciate the great play that they often produced.
@@reggates5205 Get out more, are you taking the piss. I neither like nor hate Leeds. And yes It is more than like Revie was bent and the players were dirty, but they were also good players which can't be denied. One more thing, as the Scousers would say. Calm down you gobshite!.
I suggest you go and get your ears checked because he said Europe NOT the European cup. In those days by the time Christmas came around Leeds were often the only English team left in any European competition. Two UEFA cups when the UEFA Cup was a much harder trophy to win than the European Cup. In those days the European Cup was reserved for the Champions only and you often got situations when a countries Champions were are at the end of their best period. In the UEFA Cup you were getting the next three best teams, some of who were on the rise and some who had lost their title on goal difference. The year Villa won it they played the Icelandic Champions, the East German Champions, Soviet Union Champions and the Belgian Champions hardly countries that set the world alight at that time. As I said get your ears checked you seem to be missing parts of the conversation.
@@stephenhodgson3506 An excellent reply Stephen. The Fairs Cup was extremely difficult to win, both Manchester United and Liverpool never managed it though not for lack of effort. It took 12 games to win it, a two legged final and the opposition were more often than not tough as teak. Mr Reed is like a lot of keyboard warriors out there with little knowledge of the game whatsoever. Don Revie’s Leeds were like the Marvellous Dutch international side of the 70’s. Not quite getting the rewards their talents merited.
@@heresotis491 What these people are also unaware of is that the Football League insisted you play your best side for every game. There was no resting players and if you didn't you got fined with a threat of points deductions if it happened repeatedly. Playing an away European fixture was not regarded as an excuse. So you could have a game on Saturday then have to fly off to some distant part of Europe for a mid week game then have to fly back home for a Saturday and the plane was no necessarily a jet. One of the reasons Matt Busby always put down for the Munich disaster was that there were no schedule flights that could get Man U. back before late Friday for their weekend fixture and the FL wouldn't let them move the game. So they had no choice but to hire a plane for the journey and we all know what happened then.
@@stephenhodgson3506 Yes and that was down to the repugnant Alan Hardaker or was it ballacre. Worst thing that ever happened in British football. You were quite physical Norman 🤣 the beautiful English understatement.
When Paul gets a word in he's the funniest of the lot.

Reaney ain't dead, I met him a couple of weeks ago
Imagine, man-marked by Reaney, you go for a piss and he turns up next to you ... mind you, Best said Reaney was the best defender he played against.
or the English WC full back
If Paul Reeney is dead who is it taking the football schools at Potters ? apart from that he said hello to me when we were having dinner
You don't even need to watch this team play to know they were a great side.
All you have to do is look at their line-up.
Well If you didn’t see them play then you don’t know how dirty they were.
I think the poster is getting Paul Reaney mixed up with Paul Madeley who sadly died in 2018.
