  • On this trip I hike two miles up the Davis Path in the Crawford Notch area of the White Mountain National Forest. Up there I find a spot in the spring snow to pitch my tent and watch the show in the sky.
    In this video I refer to an older video where I met a dog on the trail - that video is called "Let's Go Down."
    Chapters:
    00:00 Picking up where I left off on the Davis Path
    00:27 Meeting Andrew and Mia on the trail
    03:36 Summit views
    06:01 Setting up Camp over 200 feet off trail
    06:35 Dinner
    10:36 Sunset
    11:05 Night Mode
    12:24 Morning
    14:40 The Descent

      Thanks! Yes, I want to do more cooking. I've been practicing at home and it's time to get it going "for real" on trail.

    Amazing, thank you. Couldn't get out there this winter due to an injury. Your videos remind me of how absolutely beautiful the mountains are in winter. Hopefully I'll make it back this winter. Heading up this Tuesday for the first time this year.

      Thanks for the comment. Sometimes I wonder why people watch these videos and this is a good reminder of one of the reasons. I am glad the fun of my trip and making the video results in something helpful! Hope you have a great trip!

    Loved the time lapses and astral shots! ❤

      Great! I am working on my skills, which mostly involve taking extra shots out there and then tweaking the editing to try and make the sky look in the picture/video as clear as it did outside.

    once a week is my goal this year too, even just a small hike really helps ;)

      Yes. My walks closer to home help too. But going up to the White Mountains helps more. It's worth the drive and the time because it pays you back with peace and stress relief and a renewed spirit.

    Oh my ,you are adorable, I love your vids. Wondering what kind of pack you have, my over 40 year old external Kelty frame pack looks similar to yours. Still use mine to this day. I'm from Massachusetts and NH is my favorite place in the world. Also nice shot or Mt.Carrigon my favorite peak. PEACE ❤🇺🇲

      @RachelWhelton  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Thanks. Yeah, Carrigain is awesome! The pack is a Kelty Tioga 5500. No longer made but there are still some for sale here and there. My husband has one too and he loads his up even more than I do!

    Absolutely love your videos, Rachel! So wonderful to see a brave woman like you not letting winter stopping you from ding what you love!

      Thanks. This partly came about because I felt like I had to carry so much safety gear that I might as well just stay out there. Now I feel safer out there than in the suburbs/city full of traffic and people.

      Thanks! I was amazed this one went as well as it did, considering the various uncertainties. I'm going to try and get up there more frequently as we head towards spring.

    Even with leftovers you have better food that anyone else on the trail.
    Looks like you made a better decision than I for the day after the eclipse. I was debating Crawford versus Imp Ledge. Picked Imp Ledge and the trail required snowshoes and was slippery and mushy the whole way.
    Nice day and nighttime lapse videos! Great views from your top if mountain home away from home.

      Thanks. Yes, choosing locations is always challenging but especially right now when many trails are next to impassable. I read the New England Trail Conditions almost daily to stay in tune with which trails are recently travelled and approved by other hikers.

    Nice overnighter Rachel. Loved seeing Washington and the train trestle. When you were on your return back to your car could that have been the Peabody river you crossed?

      Yes, the Saco River, as Laura has already posted here. And there was a sign that said the name of the bridge is the Bemis Bridge.

    Love your videos Rachel! Is that a new tent I see? How do you like it? Sling Fins look really nice. Expensive as all get out though!

    • @RachelWhelton
      @RachelWhelton  Před 3 měsíci

      Yes, the tent is expensive and my husband thinks it is a bit over the top. But I felt the investment would pay off and I plan to use it year round, as I have also purchased the option summer mesh body. (So it's two tents in one). If I could be a tent tester, I would love to try one that has no vestibules/fly, like a mountaineering tent. But I guess they get condensations easier. Anyway I do love my tent (the Crossbow) and I am certainly using it a lot. I compare the cost to the cost of hotel rooms if I were going on vacation all the time (which I am not). That tent IS my vacation.

    Thank-you, Rachel. Did I miss your pack weigh in? Looks like a forty pound load!

    • @RachelWhelton
      @RachelWhelton  Před 3 měsíci +1

      I brought the scale this time but didn't weigh in because I delayed the beginning of the video until the point where I last turned back. I agree it was dang heavy! Definitely looking forward to a lighter pack as the seasons change.

    Trying to eat a frozen Clif bar is the worst. On the other hand, try popping one in the microwave for 20 seconds. It's a completely different animal than room temperature.

    • @RachelWhelton
      @RachelWhelton  Před 3 měsíci

      Wow, OK, I have never microwaved a Clif Bar!!! I'm definitely going to try it. Thanks.
