I would love a sit down video about your garden plans for the year and like “how to start a garden” things like that… ❤

I would be interested in holiday themed videos (as in traditions you are starting with your family for Valentine's, easter, etc). I find homemaking videos that intersect with holidays to be so comforting.
I also would be interested in a video about activities to do with your kids at home (10 crafts to do with your toddlers, 5 recipes to bake with your toddlers, 3 games for a rainy day, etc). I think your creativity would really shine.
Final idea is some gardening focused videos this spring. Your garden is an inspiration for me (despite living on opposite coasts). I think folks would have a lot to learn from garden planning tips from you!

For new videos/attracting new viewers, you can always check pregnancy/mom forums for common topics people might be searching for!
I'm always lurking in a couple parenting subreddits and I constantly see questions about: screen time, finding hobbies or balancing motherhood with other parts of being a person, making mom friends, navigating relationships with grandparents and in laws, and big transitions like weaning/starting school/moving to their own room /etc.
As a second time mom you have such valuable advice and experience, so I feel like plenty of first timers would be interested in your perspective!

Best hack to not binge watch is to stop midway through episodes, when there is a lull. Hope that makes sense, from a serial tv binger.
My husband is the same and with kids, being so tired we only have the energy for 45 min. It’s nice to get to the cliffhanger and continue bc you’ve only been watching for like 20 min

DEFINITELY start thrifting the dress ups now! My son is 2.5 and absolutely loves the dress up rack with costumes he got for his birthday. My best tip is to look for occupations and animals because they're the most versatile costumes in terms of what you can play!

Oh man. My daughter is 3 and her dress up obsession started around 2.75 years old. We had some hand me down princess dresses and fairy wings, and I got a felt crown off Etsy we use as the “birthday crown” every year for the kids and it just spiraled. 😂 I say just go and thrift a bunch of stuff and see what they show interest in!
Also, I would deadass watch Rowan’s grocery haul as a stand alone feature. 💀 🥰

For candle making, there are specific temperatures at which the wax melts, a temperature for mixing in essential oils properly, and then a lower temperature you need to let it cool before you pour it. Also, place the wicks in BEFORE pouring 😊

Do you think you can do a vlog that features working moms ? maybe some working mom friends that you know and how they go about Mowing. I feel like us working mom‘s love watching stay at home, mom Vlogs, but we often feel that our voices are not heard as well. So I know that you are technically a working mom lol, but I was thinking more of moms that have to work outside the home and put their kids in daycare.

    • @b.miller5271
      @b.miller5271 Před 4 měsíci

I LOVE this idea. I’ve been feeling very similar. I started watching your videos when you were pregnant with Rowan because I was expecting too. I always looked forward to Mondays and Thursdays! It’s been awesome seeing you and your family grow and to see you develop an authentic sense of style in your life, but after having my second baby and returning to teaching, I’d watch your videos and just think “aw that’s sweet/nice/cute… but I just don’t relate to this life experience anymore.” I didn’t intentionally stop watching your videos and it wasn’t personal, I just noticed that I just didn’t have time anymore and gravitated toward watching things/listening to people who better understood the mechanics of my life. I don’t think that’s a bad thing. it’s great knowing that you’ve really honed in on your demographic and are creating content that is so relatable and meaningful to this community of mothers. I respect you and all mothers, but I just don’t feel like I relate to the community here in the same way I used to. I would genuinely love to hear you have a conversation with another mom whose life is different than you. To hear a conversation about the joys and challenges of motherhood and a discussion about the nuanced differences and similarities between different motherhood lifestyles. It would feel so validating and meaningful. Anyway… I love how much pride you take it your family, being a mother, homemaker, and your career… hope you read this knowing that I have great respect for you as a work from home mom. Keep up the good work.

This is an extremely kind and respectful way to say this and I thank you for your honest feedback! It’s a tricky balance for me because to be totally honest I do absolutely work full time and the constant juggle of mom guilt when Nana is with the kids while I’m working and missing time with them to work during dinner or on weekends vs. the need to to make an income is a really hard thing for me to deal with. I feel like I’m constantly trying to “do it all” in being a a full time stay at home mom (albeit with several hours a couple times a week from Nana plus naptimes to work) but also make a full time income. I can get defensive when someone sees my life through rose tinted glasses, but I also acknowledge that in my attempts to romanticize my own life to enjoy it to its fullest it may come across as easier than it is. Definitely something for me to think about and I appreciate you bringing it up in such a compassionate way. Since going to an office or other place of business isn’t in the cards for me right now, as we can’t afford full time childcare, can you give me any tips on what I could do that would make you feel more supported and seen in my content? I’ll definitely keep in mind bringing other moms on to talk about their experiences, but I’m also protective of my friends privacy and never want them to feel like I’m shoving a camera in their faces when we hang out.

FWIW, I recommend buying fun and interesting pieces from the thrift store or even just swathes of fabric from Joann's. Growing up I had a wooden chest full of random items- silk scarves, pieces of lace from the fabric store, kimono bathrobes from the 80s, a top hat, a tiara, a fringed vest, a tutu, all sorts of fun things- and my friends and my brother and I would play "dress up." Old lace curtains could be a bridal veil, part of a princess outfit, a mermaid's shawl- whatever we wanted. Playing dress up is still one of my favorite memories from growing up. And it's not just for girls. My brother's favorite items were cowboy boots, old military hats, a blue cape, and a headband he would pretend was a puppy collar.

My daughters obsession with Disney Princesses happened around 3. I wouldn't say it happened naturally though, we have Magic Keys so she sees other girls dressed up at Disneyland all the time. So I bought her a used Snow White dress on FB Market and now we have Belle and Aurora and she LOVES it!!!

I think dressing up entirely depends on the kid. My eldest has never been into dressing up. He is now 7, and except for last year, when he became old enough to pick his holloween costume, he wanted to be himself with blue hair. He does gravitate more to realistic play then imaginative. My middle child (4) is all about imaginative play. He is constantly in his imagination world and loves to dress up. He probably started doing it around the same time he started dressing himself, so 2.5-3 years. I will add that my eldest is very high functioning on the spectrum, and my middle as far as we can tell so far is typical. My youngest is 15 months with DS, so it is really too soon to tell what her play style is yet.

  • @alysenvanhorn1441

Definitely just thrift some costumes! My son is 2 1/2 and just got into it a couple months ago. My MIL is a super thrifter so I’ve had costumes hung in his closet for a long while now, and he one day just took notice and has been all about it! We also probablyyyy watch too much Disney so he has his favorite characters 😅
I also second the suggestion for garden videos! 🌻

Oh goodness, you’re not the only one my husband can’t watch anything half the time he barely stays awake through TV as soon as the TV is on, he falls asleep there are times where we have to watch one single episode of a show over several nights because he can’t stay awake. That is so exhausting. Sometimes I feel you.💛

If Juniper is sleeping in until 9:30 then it’s normal she won’t be taking much or long naps. You’ll need to cap it at 7:30 or so, because then she’ll be more tired later to take a nap. That’s something I learned while sleep training my toddler. The huckleberry website is a great resource that I’ve been using since my daughter was 4 months! Also, not sure if you’ve already done this but would love to see a video about what it’s like having 2 kids, transition and changes etc.❤
