It seems Netflix handled the addition of Diana to the series very well and with care.
I agree, I was a little hesitant they may portray her like a “saint” but they showed her as a human instead and that was brilliant
I was surprised they really pulled it off. It was sort of an elephant in the room when this show began, how were they going to reckon with her? Diana is so ubiquitous and almost mythical, that there are so many ways they could have just been fan-servicy or overly deferential, schmaltzy, bland, etc. And on top of that they hired a virtually unknown actress instead of generating more buzz by hiring someone famous, which was for the best in a way, because you don't have the problem of her being too associated with other roles she played. It was a big risk and it really paid off

Tbf the queen is really old now and the crown has got so many people talking it's no. 1 in the UK. So if she was to pass any time soon Charles wouldn't be supported by the people, I highly doubt. He never had much of a rapport with the public anyway. Most people would prefer his son william to be next king over him.

@@RuangTrailer Many years ago in 1985 Diana came to my home town in West Sussex , she was visiting a hospice. Our school was near by and we got to go and see her as she arrived, she was wearing a red coat, she took time to wave and say hello to people outside even though the weather was rubbish . I remember that she was so much more beautiful in real life than she was in any picture or on the tv.

People still love her, decades have passed but her fanbase hasn't faded. I'm sure Season 4 has highest viewership coz of her presence. Pure soul and so courageous! The hospital scene got me tears. God bless her soul.
diana died when i was a baby so i only got to know her through watching her documentaries when i was at college. she was the only royal i genuinely liked. i love that a new younger generation of fans adores her

When others treated her cruelly, she fought back by continuing to display the values she held dear to her heart: kindness, empathy, strength, and grace. It’s heartbreaking knowing what she went through, but comforting thinking about the impact her love had on her boys, dear friends/family, and those less fortunate. 💕
You can see it in her eyes in the hospital scene. The moment she realizes just what a hug from her could do. It would give him comfort, show him love, but with the cameras flashing she knew it would be on the front page of every paper the next day. This actress was absolutely phenomenal as Diana and deserves every award she can get and more.
Diana and her 2 children are the only beautiful things that ever happened in the royal family.

I'm not gonna lie, when I first started watching the show three years ago, I was waiting so hard for them to get to this part, and man oh man I was not disappointed, they did an excellent job potraying Lady Diana, this season was an emotional roller coaster really!

She was such an icon. I was just 6 years old when she died but I grew up knowing her because she was such an icon. I'm Asian and I stan her, how weird is that? Lol. And I can't help but think that maybe if they allowed their marriage to flourish, they could've been the world's greatest couple.

I had a poster of her in my room instead of famous bands and artists. I knew her before I even knew about anyone in the British Royal Family. Oh, I'm Asian too. 😊
She died on my son's fifth birthday. He's was opening his pressies and I'm flicking through the morning news wondering why they were so interested in that bridge. Then came the announcement. And for the first time ever I felt heart broken that a member of the royal family had died. I hated them before Diane I hate them more now

It was the 90s, social media isn't really a thing, and mainstream media mainly focus on local and American news and shows and we were young kids who are not really interested on current events. I was born in 1995 and Princess Diana passed away on 1997. I barely knew about her life and the hardships she went through until I watched this netflix series. Thank you Netflix and The Crown for creating this series and did justice for Diana's life; Us younger generation have gained much more knowledge and awareness on who she really was and how the royal family treated her.
But you and other Gen Z wouldn't understand one thing though, how enormously popular and beloved she was. She and Michael Jackson were two names that popular world wide among people of all ages, races and gender. Even people in poor villages in developing countries knew and adored her. Such an icon she was.

I think the best thing that worked for her is that she isn't a popular actress and she is just starting out so people do not really know her and there is a freshness and mystery to her that Diana had when she first caught the attention of the media. Had she been played by an actress who was already familiar or already had a name, it would have been difficult to pull it off ie Naomi Watts, it was so hard to forget that she was Naomi even for a minute instead of Diana though both played Diana but in different timelines in her life
No princess can replace Diana never n ever....no Kate...no Meghan... nobody...what a precious smile! Her hair cut, the way she blushes, her eyes, the way she walks...just love everything about her...the girl just lived in Diana's role...nailed it👍
