- Today in Hearts of Iron IV, in the What's The Point series we will be exploring not just one focus tree, but three different focus trees. From forgotten Monarchist paths, Northern Workers Revolutions and Aid from the Iberian Peninsula these paths will show a rarely seen side of the game.
Along the way we will address long requested paths and see what they're all about, we will see what's good, what's not and try to find a point to and all of these paths. If there is one.

A version of this video was meant to be done in December, but Democratic Baltic Union took it's place since that version wasn't very engaging. No matter, I think this form works much better. I was gonna call this the What's The Point Multitude, but that's a deep cut almost no one would get.
I'm gonna request a few of these:
- The other communist mexico path that like i'm pretty sure no one plays because of trotsky. I guess revaunchist mexico (not the catholic one) could also be one if you need something for mexico
- New Zealand alternate history paths (Seriously, I was gonna suggest like fascist or communist new zealand, then i just realized there isnt much you can do with it.)
- Fascist Australia
- Wang Ming's P.R. China
- Left Sanitationist Poland
- Fascist Switzerland (not the puppet paths, literally the fascist branch of the Swiss tree)
- Non-Iberian Communist Portugal (Mainly the one where you just help out Republican spain and not go into civil war)
I really believe some of these could make for great episodes.
Orleanist France could use a serious re-work knowing the ideas of the main movement behind Orleanism at the time (the movement's main ideologue was **very** anti-German).
Who are you thinking about when saying that?
@@arthurbordet8754 Action Fançais and Charles Maurras
Although some mods go off the rails mods like Alternative Ways allow Orleanist France to take back Louisiana lol
@@freetime5803 i wouldn't really call Maurras an ideologue of Orleanism, to my knowledge it was too parlementary for him and most of the action française and he was more about monarchism whatever the dynasty.
@@arthurbordet8754 to my knowledge Action Français did want the duke of Orleans on the throne as the Cappet branch of the Bourbons was believed to have degenerated, while emperors were just bad for France.
It could be a democratic monarchist path regarding how they try to make it more of a "constitutional monarchy." I do agree that charles maurras should be used as a leader. France politically just sucks. No real good reason to go down the left path since everything on the right is so much better.
I actually tried Orleanist France the other day because I thought there was no point and discovered that it is practically a better version of historical France's path in terms of gameplay. The leader of Orleanist France does have a very good trait (weekly stability). Historical France does not really do anything if you take the focuses "buy time" and "go with Britiain."
try ''buy time'' and go ''revise treaty of stresa'' with Italy and let it lose alone when the German declares war on them.
L pfp
To be fair almost every every path in France is a better version of the historical path
I think the monarchist paths for France in general could do with having more options. More expansion for Bonapartist France, maybe with a meme path of restoring the Carolingian Empire (hey, if Ethiopia can restore the Kingdom of Solomon and Italy can restore the Roman Empire, then France should be allowed to restore Charlemagne's Empire), and due to the Orléanists' staunch anti-fascism, perhaps they could have a much more aggressive foreign policy against the fascists than normal democratic France is capable of where you can actually make threats of war against the fascists to force them to make concessions with you on their treaty violations.
In regard to the Canadians, the only major downside to the fascist path is you have to stare at the most terrifying portrait Paradox have ever conceived every time you open up the political tab as you realize you just unleashed the full terror of Quebec upon all of Canada (the leader came from Quebec). I wish there were more options for communist Canada in terms of diplomacy, but to be honest, every single focus tree introduced in Together for Victory needs a major overhaul.
Also, of course you find a way to do not just the Right Opposition, but also basically fight the entire Spanish Civil War. Gotta bring out all the hit classics (in all fairness, the Soviet Union and the Spanish Civil War are probably the funner parts of this game).
Of course the scary vampire man is from Qubec
Adrian Arcand probably the best fascist portrait at the game. I think he needs a recruitable population trait because he is from quebec like you said
Shame that Quebec tag didn't exist as for now
The fascist leader for Canada is from Quebec? TABARNAK!
Hello Bubbles Zest, I have a few ideas :
- What's the point of being puppet of France as Switzerland ?
- What's the point of being puppet of Germany as Switzerland ?
- What's the point of the puppets path for Poland for both communist and fascist path ?
The point of being a facist puppet is attacking USSR with the help of the Axis and then betray Germany, the point of the Communist path is the same but less effective.
On faschist path is easy, you Can buy time, take an attack bonus against Germany and betray whenever you want
Seriously. Communists would sell their own mothers to get in Stalin's graces, but fascists willingly letting their country become a puppet?
You can try fascist Czechoslovakia where they surrender Sudetenland and become a German puppet. I unknowingly did that focus when I played Czechoslovakia for the first time.
I don't think that would be enjoyable tho.
It’s an easy no, it’s basically suicide with no good rewards.
Mountain General did that, it was a good video
All of the monarchist french paths need a heavy rework. Napoleon's path is just not really how I'd envision a "Great Conquerer" of Europe to be when it's just "conquer everyone who basically screwed you over." Still at least it's fun though
Orleanist France could definitely just join the allies anyway, without like actually going historical and I do agree with it being a democratic monarchy/constitutional monarchy anyway, it be better for what the path is trying to entail.
I do have a fun idea where the Bourbonist French path could lead to a latin union formable and gain war goals on Italy, Romania, and Portugal. Not sure if PDX would want that but yeah
Also I'd like to add in like Vichy France for imperialist germany should be a thing, and not have the old mechanics of Vichy France. I do think charles marraus being leader (since he actually supported Vichy France iirc) preparing to install some German royalist or whatever.
@@UlulvarCape there is bourbon France but its a puppet
The only thing I like about the Napoleonic delusion path is carving Germany like a turkey.
I love that democratic baltic tree just exploded over the past month
Also, any path that has the focus “clear the slums” is lame
britain has to wait a long time for the marriage to complete for its monarchist path tho
Yeah, December 36, early 37. Really gonna slow them down.
2:00 I'd say it's pretty realist with what was the french government at the time
the fact that every discussions, every revisions or laws or even urgent decisions where discussed for days and days or even months even led some people like Charles Maurras to anti parliamentarism.
You forgot to mention that the focus Slum Clearing can give you 2 building slots in every core state with 8 or more factories.
2 extra slots doesn't make up for any of Orleanist France's downsides.
Truly the best french path, instead of franco spain or napoleon, you can clear the slums
Its.... still meh. Yeah you can get a lot of building Slots but as France, the amount of building Slots you have is not among your Main concerns, is it?
I think the main point of the POUM support is to have a Spanish ally rather than a helper in the war
I would like to see Greater Lithuania where you annex poland and then release them as a collaboration government via "Restore order" focus and fight USSR/Germany
Or
as habsburg poland, use bohemia to restore austria-hungary
The Bourbon path gives the opportunity to core Spain and the Bonaparte path gives a bunch of early war goals and manpower. Obvious choices.
Orleanist France is probably the most requested path because on paper it looks so bad that nobody is willing to spend a couple of hours of their lives trying it, and everyone's waiting for someone else (like you) to put a video up on CZcams, just to confirm that it's as bad as it looks, and here's the confirmation that it really is as bad as it looks...
03:08 Just look at Spain.
I think that the Canadá communist tree has a point, a very mediocre one that is support the soviets like the historical but the distance between the two nations one make worfit the path
For Canada you could have delayed the civil war till you had WT high enough to reach commit to the war. Then spend 70 days in civil war and do the focus
And run the risk of the Phillippines being guaranteed? That wouldn't have helped.
@@BubblesZestthen justify on El Salvador. They are fascist, therefore won't be guaranteed by the allies but the usa still guarantees them from the start, forcing them and the Philippines into any war you declare on them
A Hat in Time OST in the background = sub
obedience is honestly pretty good, you get to form qing china at the cost of being a puppet, which you can change ofc
Based POUM
Also House of Orleáns in the Road to 56 mod is more fun.
could be fun to build defensively to hold out as canada and wait for soviet support while you mobilize your men
not like
everything into defense, of course
idrk
On the one hand Canada has a new, third, independent communist path that basically lets you take Send In The Zombies and get rid of the great depression.
I'll be honest, I prefer Red Flood's Ideological Loyalty, which gives you a 1.00% Recruitable population. Very handy and I've wished that Accellerationists get it a lot of the time.
I love the idea of a based right wing anti German constitutional monarchy France so I love the idea of Orlinist France, I just wish they got something, I think the theme of infinite stability is pretty cool, but maybe we could get a war support ticker as well for some anti fascist or anti communist focus and I just wish slum clearing have like 20% max building slots and some base production. (Or maybe just a national spirit that effectively gives one additional level of concentrated industry) That would be cool and actually good. If napoleon gets 3% manpower then the Orlinists should get some solid industry buffs.
A defensive war stability modifier would also make sense (like the people trust and like the King and the state so they are more willing to stay loyal in times of defending their country.)
Edit: I think there should be a decision between non aligned and democratic sort of like the way Sanation Left Poland works!
It’s a shame because Orléanist France is the only plausible monarchist path imo.
And I totally agree on the democratic ideology for the same reason. I just don’t see the 20th century French public accepting an absolute monarchy
Peaceful development for Bulgaria is good if played right. Yes its annoying
the repeal the law of exile needs to he 365 days bc fixing disjointed goverment needs to be 365 days or else france is gonna be op.People could just getting rid of disjointed goverment and basically get unlimited pp
The reason that constitutional revision takes so long is obviously because monarchism wasn’t very high at this point in time, and France hadn’t had a monarch in almost 100 years. The same does not apply for Germany, so I don’t get why you would bring them up.
Cause spending an extra year for a really underwhelming focus tree sucks while Alt-History Germany can just go nuts in that same timeframe. (I've even made a video already on why it isn't balanced)
Also on constituional revision, who cares how long it's been since the last Monarch, this is a alt-history tree in a video game, doesn't have to play by those rules.
@@BubblesZest It does play by those rules, because vanilla Hoi4 does try to be at least somewhat realistic. It’s not always good at it, but I don’t think that we should frown upon it when it tries. And another reason Germany doesn’t have something like the constitutional revision is because Germany gets its monarchy back through a Civil War.
However you’re right, the focus tree is pretty bad.
Realism is not a good excuse for constituional revision to be so slow, especially since it's a alt-history tree, it being realistic should be an afterthought cause it *really doesn't matter* in this context.
Btw, don't use Germany's tree to justify it, that tree is beyond unrealistic.
there is no point to the commie canada tree besides making you wish you did the fascist part of the canada tree
me: sounds about right
What's the point of stalinist greece
Please You can a video about what is the point of the polish fascist pro-german path?
My CK3/No More Partitions guide is that video, the Cossack King and that path are near the same.
Whats the point of Facist Netherlands or Democratic Mexico
Whats the point of Rome Protocols as Hungary? You can get everything with Germany too. The only good thing that could come from that is German Puppet but still you will weaken Fascism in the world.
Please do what’s the point of communist India
I've done the All-India Forward Bloc already, the fascist and communists trees there are practically identical.
"Why does France have to wait?"
Because democratic process sucks
