The water is safe to drink but they urge you to drink bottled water. WTH does that mean? They should make the CEO of Norfold Southern drink the water and see how that turns out.
Make the CEO bath in it. Baptize his children in it. See how that works out. “God fearing”

I would be very worried about the water contamination in Ohio/ Pennsylvania/w. Virginia area. When fish and birds start dying, that's a clear signal it's not safe.
That’s NOT what the Republican controlled Ohio State Representatives, think !! They told you not to worry and drink the water !! Lmfao!!
You're right.I'm in virginia and i witnessed the black smoke rolling through the sky for the last 2 days....and now it's raining.😨
The waterways map I saw...this mess travels all the way down to most of the state of Tennessee. This will affect a LOT of people and animals...and for how long???

Ms. Brockovich is still a real American! She is telling the truth, this is huge. And WHY did they have so many chemical cars together? Did I miss something, how did it happen? BURN? Some of the chemicals are only poisonous when burned.
We know they don't tell the truth of how bad disasters are. The EPA said that the air at Ground Zero was safe to breathe. It was not! Lots of dead fish! Erin needs to get on this case, Ohio needs her
They need to pay to relocate these people into a new town, new homes, all new belongings because it's all contaminated. They all need to pay to stabilize these people for the long term and add compensation for trauma and health care.
YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT!! BIG-TIME RELOCATING IS WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE NOW!!!
@Babs Kaz Refugees of Bioterrorism.
If hazardous chemicals are routinely being shipped through residential communities or otherwise, they need a requirement to have an emergency plan prepared in ADVANCE for short- and long- term impacts to humans, air , water, soil, and wildlife. Should be updated regularly and staff trained on procedures. It's really shocking that they're saying they have to study the hazmat effects or figure out a solution, AFTER a derailment/accident occurs.
Absolutely. The incompetence and lack of preparation in a first world country is astounding. And there are rail lines like this all over our country!
Agree. It's totally irresponsible. I'm sorry, this is just plain idiotic. And it was all in the plan to burn the chemicals in a ditch. A bunch of morons. And no hazmat masks offered prior to the burn. Garbage. Hoping for maximum accountability. Just think of the children and the infants. Not to mention those with asthma, Copd, and lung cancer patients. Totally criminal act.
They have all that stuff my family worked for the railroad for 100 years and it is incredibly dangerous and they just don't give a s*** that's why I steered clear of it
Under Trump railroads were given permission to carry LNG. If one of those trains blew up, I have heard the explosion would be the equivalent of the A bomb that destroyed Hiroshima and killed over 200,000 people. What do we need to do to get both decent working conditions for the railroad workers, as in sick leave, and what do we need to do to impose safety guidelines similar to those required on airlines?
Even better would be to find non-toxic alternatives for these chemicals. There are healthier/safer alternative materials out there that we can use to manufacture whatever we need.
Get after it Erin!! You're good and we believe in you!! Thank you for all your hard work ❤️
It is not just a catastrophe for the village. It is devastating for the entire Ohio Valley.

When the fish are already dead, that should be enough of a answer from Earth. Get out of there.
The firefighters there were not told what kind of problemm they were facing. Theey were told to put out the fire. They pumped 170 thousand gallons of water into the creek. A boot of a firefighter melted. They were not given hazmat suits. Ways to clean off and went home in their clothes only to be told 3 days later to throw out the clothes which were exposed to home and family and vehicles. They built the tracks over the contaminated soil instead of removing them.
@ Sue Prov . Thanks for providing that info, which I have not seen elsewhere, and which is obviously significant. Perhaps post on other channels covering this issue ?

Wonder if the EPA official will be drinking the water during his visit
Considering Trump hired an industry hack to hollow the EPA put for 4 years I strongly doubt that there is any cohesive team over there any more.
Offer them a glass of water and see if they will drink it !!
Waterboarded with the river water.
12 DAYS LATER!!! Makes me wonder what else is happening right now that we won't know about until next month.
Questions that need to be addressed: 1.) Why are these trains allowed to transport TOXIC chemicals?
2.) Where were these TOXIC chemicals going to (destination)? 3.) What were these TOXIC chemicals going to be used for???????
How else would you propose they ship chemicals? These types of chemicals are used in industrial applications all over the country and the world. Many of the products you use every day are made in plants that use these chemicals. Surely you can't be that naive?

A train passes close to my daughter's Ohio school. I was so glad when the US FINALLY passed an infrastructure bill, but the neglect is so extensive from so many years that I see only more disasters for a long time yet. We need to put pressure on govt and companies to make the railroads safe.
Glad the passed the infrastructure bill : infrastructure is just the code word for whatever they want to pass . They are not going to fix anything friend . It’s very sad . God help us all .
I don't need any government official to tell me whether or not the ground, air and water are safe. I can figure out all on my own that it isn't.
The Whitehouse sends billions of dollars to Ukraine. But cant help Americans in this town!?! This needs to be our priority! Ashamed of our leadership! Shame on them! Thank you Erin we need your voice
Because it's really the west's war, Ukraine used as proxy.

Joe can't get his cut off this. Much easier to launder money through Ukraine
They hate us .
"The Whitehouse sends billions of dollars to Ukraine"
The White House has no power to spend $billions - that's Congress.
Last I checked many republicans in Congress voted to approve what was sent.
Also it's not money that actually leaves the US because it was all spent on military hardware and supplies from American manufacturing.
aka 'charitably' spending on another country, but the American economy gains anyway.
Which is why even Republicans will vote for it and why even Democrats often vote for increasing military budgets, because it often results in a gain to the economy.
Oh my goodness!!! I didn't realize it's in the Ohio river basin!!! Yikes, that affects most of us😬
Yes, ma'am! This flows over to PA, all the way down to most of Tennessee...at least the waterway map I saw early on. This is a national emergency in my book.

A simple search of the racial demographic profile of East Palestine shows that the town has zero African-American residents and it is about 98% Caucasian. That metric alone, to me, explains why there is practically NO effort on the part of various federal agencies (EPA, Transportation, CDC, FEMA, etc.) to proactively offer financial assistance to the residents of that town. It's pretty clear that the federal gov't is all too happy to spend lavishly on housing and feeding illegal immigrants (oops, asylum-seekers); and I am confident that if East Palestine had even a small number of African-American residents who were also affected by this disaster, and if THEY were voicing their fully justifiable complaints on TV, the financial aid would already be in the pipeline for all. Our federal, and some state, governmental agencies are now run by people who are openly biased against this nation's majority populace. They have no shame.
Most of these people will never wish to return to their homes for fear of acquiring cancer precursors. I don't blame them. What it would cost ANY federal agency to buy out their homes at fair-market value and render financial assistance for relocation is a microscopic fraction of those agencies annual budgets. We simply cannot cut these good people loose to twist in the wind financially. To refuse this help will be to consign these people to a choice between staying in their homes, which will never sell, terrible health as time goes on and, eventually, awful deaths from the worst kinds of cancer. Or they can simply pack up and move somewhere with the $$ in their savings, NO reimbursement for their home equity or business equity, and possibly the loss of employment. Imagine THAT being YOUR choice. They deserve much better.
Yes theyre no good for a mail in vote and unlike people from central america they are no good for slave labour either.
Sadly this really is the reality of it.
What a horrific “ accident “
safe to drink damn they really don't care
I caught a snippet of their community mtg. this am and was still not reassured by their state epa reps who seemed to still be glossing it over. They say their tests are coming out negative for problems but that's not good enough for me. Who's doing the testing? How are they funded? Who and how do their epa people (state level) get funded. No one ever talks about the big fracking industry in the area, the politics of which could have a profound impact on the response here. Also could someone please explain to me why this isn't being responded to on a national level? No - I won't buy their governor has to declare an emergency first, b/c the impact of this accident is reaching several states plus will hit the gulf.
EXACTLY! Where does everyone think the water from Ohio will flow? It sure doesn't stop at their borders. The waterway map I saw...this flows all the way over to PA, down to most parts of Tennessee!

I’m in New Orleans, Louisiana. The contamination from that disaster will be diluted & rushing through to the Gulf of Mexico by the time it reaches us. But, it WILL reach us.
This IS an entire US disaster.
This is an environmental, ecological & economical disaster. It’s not just air & above ground or in wells that water and contaminants move.
This contamination field will be expanding below ground level for years.

Erin Brockovish's you are legend
Every CEO of the railroad should have every penny taken from them to pay for the this situaiton. They have done criminal activity by not maintaining their trains, by having too many cars, for keeping a train going when it had problems the day before. The only people in America who could have prevented this situation were the extremely well paid CEO. The buck stops with them. Until they are totally bankrupt and criminally indicted, the people of the four states involved will not get the help they need. Take their money now. These people need help now. Stop blaming people who could have not stopped this from happening. Sure it would be nice if there were more regulations of industry, But the GOP refuses to do it, and even when they do the greedy CEO[s ignore it with numerous violations. They work their employees to death and they don't maintain the rails or the trains. and yet they are extremely rich but horrible bosses. They caused it , put them in jail until you take all their money to deal with at least part of this problem. You know the people in this town do not have resources to pay for the CEO's lack of regard for human health and care for the environment. Get all hands on deck from all the universities to study and examine the cost of this toxic disaster. Stop gas lighting these people. They say they are sick and you say go to the doctor, but I sure don't get the impression that you are taking theri concerns seriously. It is going to take a village of experts to do timely help for the affected people,, animals and lland. All of this could have been prevented. This is criminal. It is from greed.

The Rail Road company must be held accountable due to their negligence through the failure to ensure proper maintenance of the tracks to have prevented such a catastrophe. They must be held liable for the adverse health reactions that have been imposed on these residents of the surrounding areas and the environment. In addition, the Rail Road Company should also financially compensate the victims of this ecologically catastrophic occurrence to relocate to new locations where the contamination is not present.
