This boat is designed by Jacques Mertens at Bateau.com.
Building technique used is stitch and glue in fully composite marine plywood/(biaxial)fiberglass and System Three Silvertip and west system marine Epoxy.

Was laying in the hospital today worrying myself shitless untill I saw this vid, it took me back a few yrs thinking of the Chesapeake Bay and I have to say this boat is truly a DREAM.

I believe the vessel was built with this wonderful soundtrack on loop, amazing outcome absolutely see myself destined for Mexico on a permanent basis. 🇲🇽🇮🇪
I don't watch many 16 minute videos but I was riveted, I would imagine the first time your backed that baby into the water was a special one. And the wood boat ride, looks like she is made to bounce like a Cadillac. Thanks for taking us for a ride on the process. It was a job documenting I'm sure.

WOW !! You did a fabulous job. That boat came out beautiful. For one thing if you ever needed to look for a job you shouldn't have any problems. Boat builders should be knocking down your front door to get you to jump aboard their crew and check signed and you fill in the amount. Thanks for sharing. I will be watching this multiple times.

Alan Shipman Thank you sir! :-) No nothing beats the Carolina flair love it to! Also NC and SC itself, wish I could live there great part of the US! Stitch and glue method is great, unfortunately only reserved for smaller boats, or so I've been told.

Even a production boat of this caliber would $120K, + look at a 23-25' Contender new...or Yellow-fin, or Fountain...with twin 115 Yamaha 4 strokes..! The engines are 15k each as it is...!

Carl Stallins bubba the motor and rig cost 40k. This boat is in the 150k area depending on the electronics.

Man you made building that thing look very do-able, I'm not gonna say you made it look easy but it didn't look impossible, but I'm sure it's anything but easy and you are obviously highly skilled individual!!! I'm very impressed and slightly jealous of your beautiful creation, her lines and that big flared Carolina bow is just awesome, not to mention the build quality and attention to detail are truly impressive and it's throughout the entire build, even in those places that most people will never see like the bilge , the wiring, the console power door just awesome!!! It's just gorgeous and something I hope your extremely proud of!!! Hats off!!

This is really amazing, to think of where you built this, under an overhang, it looks like a patio and this boat looks like it was made by the finest boat boat building company with all their high tech tools. It's amazing what a true craftsman can do. It doesn't matter where or what toys they have at their disposal, it's the knowledge, passion and experience that matters. Hats off to you sir

Initially the plans called for a cuddy cabin with a v berth , but you made it a true center console , you put a beautiful big v8 evinrude outboard motor on it , it must be fast with all that power,
It's sad that Evinrude is gone now

Absolute Dream Boat... I have already been very inspired to do the same thing but your vid may have made it more of a reality. Your design and craftsmanship are brilliant. i cant imagine the sense of pride you must have from all the comploments, God has Blessed you Buddy with so much talent.

Hi Peter: I did look up the links to the designer/supplier and learned that it came from a kit of pre-cut materials, which makes it a very realistic prospect for anyone with a good level of general experience along with a high IQ to keep them from making too many mistakes. The fact that you bought this as a kit in no way detracts from your superb accomplishment and I hope you will share with us any lessons learned and tips for working with a kit like this.
No I didn't bought a kit I just bought the plans what gives you the right to build one boat, I draw and cut the panels myself, you can see me do it at 0.26 sec, Never the less kits are available indeed, you can use it but drawing and cutting the panels yourself isn't really that hard and it is lots of fun to do.
Oops, sorry I assumed you bought the kit; it really wasn't obvious that you did the cutting; of course that makes your effort and results exponentially more impressive. I guess since you said it was a rookie build I didn't think it would be very easy to do it from plans without a workshop. Were the plans you bought on paper? I guess computerized cut files would be too much to hope for since it would be too easy to share CNC cut plans, which would sabotage their business model.
You are right they sell paper plans by snail mail and digital plans in PDF format by email, but no CNC, if you want CNC files you have to program them yourself. But the paper plans have easy to follow building notes, to be honest drawing and cutting the panels isn't really that hard, the plans at bateau.com are really very user friendly and they have models and building levels for everyone. I just started to build a Bruce Crandall Hydroplane, the Flyer 15 those plans are much harder to follow and building notes are minmal.

If you know a few of the basics. Building a stitch and glue boat is not difficult at all. The key is having a quality design like this one that is well detailed. Used to work for a custom boat builder. Although this should not be the first boat you have built. This is very attainable you just have to pay attention to detail. And when you think its good enough go 20% more on the effort and you will be very pleased with the results.
