I think they do know, they're just taking advantage of people who see the word "rare" and buy into it thinking that it actually has value.

Just started collecting, and went to the bank today to get some coins to sift through.......found my first 1972 5cent......I was soooo exited lol. Love this channel, very helpful for newbies.

@@PJsCoinCapers Just thought I'd tell you, I also got some 20cent coins from the bank, and went through them a second time looking for rotation errors. I noticed the 1966 coin looked different, and suspected it was a wavy, but was not certain. Went and watched your video showing one, and I am convinced I have one. Easy for a newbie to look over, but like you said, you look at the space above the line of the two, and can see it. I want to double check with my local coin shop. It is not in great condition, but was exited to find it......lol..My first trip to the bank really paid off.

I think a few people may incorrectly correlate how the U.S. 1909 Lincoln One Cents from any mintmark have a premium with the sculptors VDB initials. The difference is, those VDB initials got halted early in production, and are actually scarce. The VDB initials however returned in 1918, but smaller and now on the obverse on Lincoln's shoulder. Your $2 are basically full production oddities since from 1990 onward they dropped the HH initials.
I believe they removed the initials because some people saw it to be branding on the elder and was seen to be disrespectful.
Yeah PJ saw them on eBay sometime back and thought maybe I had read the mint figures wrong. I can go to my bedside table
now and probably find 3 or 4, wow I'm rich!!!!!

I'd never seen the HH before, and I just found a 1988 $2 Coin, and I think I heard somewhere else that they were supposed to be valuable (maybe from that news article) the coin I have is in fairly nice condition. It doesn't have many scratches or other circulation damage on it, and the design is still nice and clear. There's a fair petina on it, so no shine, but it's still in remarkably good condition for being 35 years old. I came across this video when I was trying to see its worth, and I must say... I'm mildly disappointed. I could have done with a few thousand $ right now... But, c'est la vie.

following is a presentation given by a member of the Numismatic Society of South Australia at the meeting held on Thursday January 19, 2016.
A member showed a 1988 $2 coin which was found by his daughter while noodling rolls of coins obtained from a bank. The obverse of the coin has an impressive planchet flaw across much of the surface. Some other commonly used names for this type of error are lamination flaw or planchet peel.
Planchet flaws happen when coin metal is being rolled prior to blank manufacture. A gas inclusion, metal impurity, or some metal of low temperature is rolled into the metal leaving an area of inherent weakness where some of the coin metal is only weakly attached to the rest. As the metal is rolled the flaw lengthens and becomes linear in nature as does the associated piece of attached metal.
This coin shown at the meeting was struck while all the coin metal was present, but at some point after that the planchet flaw has detached from the main part of the coin leaving an essentially linear flaw across the surface of the coin. The flaw on this coin is much larger than you’d typically see and is a good example of the type.

Although I am an eBay reseller, it disgusts me to see how many others will attempt to rip people off, not just in coins but anything, add "Rare" into the title and there is always someone gullible enough to buy it. I like to think I am more ethical, I found two of these in my change today and thought great, they sell for $4 upwards obviously worth it. I remembered this video and came back to remind myself what you said and I am glad I did so they will not be going up for sale. However, if anyone wants one I will send it free of charge and post for a donation of $15,000 to the cause of my choice.....lol. Keep up the great work these vids are invaluable and have even got me started collecting as you can see from you fb page.

PJ's Coin Capers The HH was actually removed by a legal challenge in the courts. I'm not sure of the details but remember watching it on the news and it was something to do with the image that was done by another person was too simular so the RAM removed HH on further issues. You can buy both 1988 & 1989 mint sets which have the $2 coin in them for around $30ea, so why would you pay any more for a single $2 coin from theses scammers on ebay
Ok, thanks for the extra information. I'm not sure if I mentioned in the video or not but I was told that the HH looked like branding on the aboriginal elder and it would have been better to just put it elsewhere on the coin.

I have seen some really dodgy adds on EBay lately... total rip offs..
When you check recent sales on Ebay March-April 21, as well as the spectacular 5 figure fake sales, there are a lot of these HH coins in circulated condition for around $4.00-$6.00. Would that make it somewhat worthwhile for noodlers to keep and sell them? Therefore should regular $2.00 coins with substantially lower mintage of only 3-4% of the 1988 HH $2.00 actually trade for more?

Bitcoin value is based on a general consensus of investment. Why can't we let the coin collector's and public decide on the value of this cool coin? Why can't it go up in value like any other coin???
With almost 200 million of them with HH there are many other $2 coins that will go up in value and be sought after before these. If we go cashless maybe we might see some extra value in them.
