In this week's video I will be doing a deep dive into the reputations and stereotypes of some of Oxford University's most famous colleges-debunking or further exposing these claims by comparing them to my own brief experience of living in Oxford last term...
    TIMESTAMPS (took wayyy too long):
    6:18 Hertford College
    7:34 New College
    10:18 Oriel College
    10:40 St John's College
    12:04 Wadham College
    13:13 Christ Church college
    16:29 Magdalen College
    17:53 Somerville College
    18:50 Merton College
    21:07 Balliol College
    21:56 Mansfield College
    23:03 Brasenose College
    23:54 University College
REMEMBER: as always these are just MY opinions, so if you are a prospective Oxford student trying to decide what college to apply to, check what college provides your course first, before visiting the individual college websites (and if there are no Covid-restrictions preventing you from doing so, I would highly recommend visiting Oxford on an open day to get a feel for the colleges/city) . ALWAYS email the designated college access officer for any specific college you have questions about (details will be available on the college websites, and don't be afraid to contact them because helping prospective students is literally their job), as they are the most qualified to provide you with accurate and helpful information.

If it's the one you want to apply for, then please apply!! Don't let one video on the internet dissuade you-it's always good to be aware of potential issues each college might have, but in reality every single college has its pros and cons and it's a matter of weighing them up for yourself. For you, their choir is a massive pro, while I wasn't really interested in the choir when I was applying. Maybe email the Magdalen Access Officer to get more information?

I went to Balliol 20 years ago as a postgrad and would say that I was very surprised to hear this vlogger describe it as right wing! It was incredibly leftie when I was there and I suspect it is still now. The colleges with a right wing reputation back in the day were Trinity, Oriel and Brasenose and perhaps ChCh. Definitely do not put Balliol out of the question! Also, you will find your tribe wherever you end up- you just have to look for it!

My primary interests were finding a lovely spouse to take home to America, touring the country side in my Austin Healey convertible, and locating distant relatives.
