Thank you so much for the awesome review!!! It’s good to also mention that the AF 8pre comes with the Audiofuse creative suite software, a software bundle from Arturia that includes 3 preamps, 1 compressor, 1 reverb, 1 delay, 1 filtre and more!!! Amazing job as always! Thank you for this great review
Larger interfaces are great to see on this channel. I can see a world where there are larger and larger groups getting together for livestreaming and podcasts, so gear recommendations are great.
I like the fact that this video was pretty much straight to the point, fairly short and informative. Nice to be able to check out a good review on a piece of gear I might be interested in buying, while on my somewhat short lunch or 15 minute breaks at work
The resistor test for noise was much more helpful, as you being quiet just let us listen to your room, which was much louder than most audio interfaces noise floors. So thanks for adding the resistor test as well. Got to say: The noise floor is astonishing. However, the correctly working RODE NT1 would be likely to still outperform that preamps usable dynamic range by about 20-24 dB. But thats just nerdyness, not a real world issue. Great Pre's!
Yeah. I've done the 150-ohm resistor test on a lot of the interfaces over the last few years. The SM7b plugged in is more of a real world test, and the preamp noise was nearly non-existent and it was all room tone.
Clicked on your Amazon link to find this next to my Motu 896 Hybrid for the same money. It would be interesting to compare the pres although the Motu 896 offers a hugely advanced recording studio setup. This would be a great Adat expander for it. Like your idea of a one or two channel small interface!
I’m a drummer currently rocking two daisy chained Motu 896HD but am having occasionally problems with OS updates. Do you think the pres on the auturia or the AD conversion is better than the 896’s?
You forget the plugin's and Analog Light, V library access ! Analog Lab Lite gathers in a single virtual instrument the engines of all our 26 keyboard recreations and their 500 best presets. For punch I'd try the 1073 plugin and punch a whole in the sky !
I asked on every group I am on facebook on the UAD Apollo twin vs the Arturia Audiofuse Studio, 99% said the apollo without giving any precise reasons, the only reason I got was ‘it has great plugins’ but I dont give a f about plugins. Preamps wise, is the Arturia better? The Arturia has more connectivity options, specs looks better, overall it is more appealing to me, but I dont want to make the bad choice haha, any recommendations? I dont play any ‘electric’ instruments, I will only record weird instruments such as Cristal singing bowls, cristal harp, tibetan bowls, handpan, ravvast, didgeridoo, native flute, shakuhachi, acoustic guitar, voice and singing, unsing good microphones, thanks!
If you're not going to be using plugins, I don't think the UA stuff is a good idea because you're paying for processors and all that which yyou won't use. So the Arturia would probalby be the right choice. No reason to pay for features you're not using.
Podcastage wow! Thanks!! I never thought I would get a response from you! 😍 haha I’m still a newbie at recording, but I watch all your videos, they helped/help me a lot, thanks!!
As usual an excellent review that really gives details and insight on how the product compares to other stuff out there. This review actually was the final push that got me to purchase this interface. If Bandrew says it's a winner then that carries some weight in my book. The micpreamps in this really are quite impressive. Noticably clearer and with a bunch more gain than the pre's in my Midas Venice console which are actually pretty solid sounding micpre's. The knobs on the 8Pre do have some movement to them but in spite of that they don't feel problematically crappy to me, sort of a solid sort of movement if that makes any sense. I guess I'll see how they hold up. Kind of similar with the xlr combo jacks, they don't feel like old school XLR by Neutrik or Switchcraft that you would find on vintage gear or some current $5000 boutique compressor but they don't seem worse than most other combo jacks on a lot of other modern equipment. So far it's seeming like a really nice piece for the money in that inbetween land of not budget but not crazy expensive price range. I wish it had inserts on more than just the first two channels (S/PDIF would have been nice too) but besides that I'm very impressed with the 8Pre.
Great vid, bud! Very in depth review! Killer capability on a small-ish interface as you've demonstrated. As a former gigging guy and now just want to make decent sounding music, I can appreciate this unit!!
I don't own any Arturia Audio Interfaces but I have more than several of their excellent Midi controllers and a ton of their just awesome virtual synths . I really love Arturia's stuff, they know what they are doing and their customer service is very good.
You might want to play around with the included effects suites that come with this piece. I have a couple of them and those are quite a bit of fun to play around with. I use mine for production in FL Studio.
adrien Teixeira The Element series was discontinued late last year, although you can still find some new units (especially the 88) for sale. Hopefully they replace that line soon, because I was looking at one but would like more modern connections in such an expensive piece of gear.
i watched your review of the motu m2 and then bought it, then watched the audient evo4 and bought that, then was about to by this and then saw $$$! maybe when i'm a famous musician or youtuber
I'm not sure why so many people swear by the cloudlifter since it only offers an extra 24db, it's small yes but won't take the place of a dedicated mic amp.
ah, this calls to mind the classic Chris Rock sketch, where he is surprised at the price of things, repeats the price of that thing, and exclaims. "good lord that a lot of money" ... 800 dollars for an audio interface, good lord thats a lot of money.
love this thing!! great video @Podcastage do you happen to own a Universal Audio 710 Twin-Finity/4-710d? I'd really love to hear this device and the Universal Audio gear and maybe some other preamps in a shootout type of situation. thanks for doing what you do! this helped me a lot!
I don't have either of those UA preamps. I have been amassing a collection of preamps though so I can start to do some reviews of them because I find them so interesting and fun.
1:55 You said 45V. I'm sure we all know it's 48V (especially since it says it right on the button), but I feel the need to point out your mistakes so that you know I'm actually listening.
I might buy this. I have a motu 8a (which is around the same price) but it does not come with preamps, I use preamps on my Allen & Heath mixer. But I need an adat expansion. Motu has a good interface with 8 pres too, but I feel like this one might be nicer.
Some factors to consider the sound quality we hear: On our end we are fighting CZcams's quality compression, our different DACs with different chips, the condition of the headphone out and the quality it can put out. Remember that CZcams changes the sound and the interface changes it a bit too. Then it meets your headphones and or speakers/monitors. I don't like videos like this because of the technical bugs that come with streaming sound quality demonstrations. Your best bet is demoing one yourself and if you don't like it then send it back. People do this for example: the 500 series because it is showing their world setup with probably different gear and cables and bit rate, but it doesn't translate your sound the way you want that you heard from them, in your module. And for $800 I would expect a 32bit setup instead of 24bit. Zoom sells a 32bit, 6 input, battery powered box with phantom power that fits in your hand for $650. It is also rouged for field recording adventures. The Zoom F6 on Sweetwater for those interested.
I know it's almost no competition but I'd LOVE to see these put up against some Grace Design pres. I've yet to hear anything cleaner than Graces or DAD preamps but man these are pretty transparent, might've sold me on it as an ADAT expander since I can't afford Grace M108s. Would you say the Arturia's are just more colorful but just as quiet?
Finally I came across a really good review. I've been considering this interface to use this as a expansion for my Apollo Twin MK2. I wan to run my mastering chain through it, my synth and my other instruments. What do you think about this one over Audient ASP800?
@@rylandweet7750 Well, if you use the optical in from Apollo Twin the preamps are bypassed since it is a digital input. You will rely on the Audiofuse's preamps. Anyways, I managed to upgrade to Apollo X8 and now I have as many inputs as I needed :)

Wonderful review! I had an Audiofuse and loved it but sold it for an Audient id44 (no regrets) needed more preamps. But, now I’m wondering, is the 72db with the pad light in red? If not, does that add even more gain?

Your reviews always mention how wobbly the XLR ports are and everyone else reviewing the same products always mention how solid they are. You must be used to very high end gear.
The wobble to them is not out of the ordinary at all. That's why I didn't include that in the cons section. I'm just pointing out the little bit of wobble to them, so if someone buys it based on this and they see that movement, they're not freaking out thinking it's broken or something.

Your reviews always mention how wobbly the XLR ports are and everyone else reviewing the same products always mention how solid they are. You must be used to very high end gear.
The wobble to them is not out of the ordinary at all. That's why I didn't include that in the cons section. I'm just pointing out the little bit of wobble to them, so if someone buys it based on this and they see that movement, they're not freaking out thinking it's broken or something.
latency seems very high, comp to my rme or prism, not usable for midi drumkits thats a cert
For midi drumkits, what's the latency that you'd be okay with?
@@Podcastage i could detect the micro lag around 5ms rt, below is good for it same with guitar vsts, ive got used to tracking with plugins on the vsts now, hard to go back i guess, rme drivers are supoib :)
