Adam Ondra and Alex Honnold talk | Sport climbing and big walls climbing

  • Of course, It would be way more fun to climb (and talk) with Alex Honnold (on) some sick big wall, but for now, we have to be satisfied with this awesome talk we had!
Alex is an unbelievably relaxed guy and this also applies to his cool climbing style. It was quite surprising to find out that, for Alex, free soloing El Cap was a bigger chill than climbing on our Czech sandstone.
We covered so many great topics. Alex shared inspiring experiences and thoughts and besides the funny story of how we have met, we talked about our climbing efforts, tried to figure out if climbing harder routes makes us noticeably stronger, chatted about sport climbing, speed climbing, how do we cope with so much attention and if there are any responsibilities connected to being a public figure. And much more. Enjoy!
Together with Alex, we partner up with Black Diamond and we support the production of quality climbing, skiing and other outdoor equipment.

I would say BOTH are more mind over strength. Adam climbs the HARDEST routes in the world which requires an incredibly resilient and determined mindset. Anyone can be as strong and as technically brilliant as Adam, but wouldn't be able to achieve what he has. He trains for months and months on a route, moving and living at the location, creating replica walls to train on every day and completely dedicates his mind and body to conquering that goal. His will to succeed and to to push himself every day harder and harder is crazy.

This was a fascinating, in depth talk where you could tell both parties were interested and matched in terms of level and experience. I wish this was a 2 hour long podcast!

Once I disturbed Jimmy Chin at Cliffs climbing GYM in New York. He said sorry I have training. I felt little sad that moment but I totally understand his reaction. So I understand how bad can be too famous too. I also met with Honnold at Free Solo Movie premier in New York. He just gave to everybody selfie and signature in the movie theater. I was the first who jumped on podium and asked him to sign his book. :)

I miss climbing so much. I am mainly an indoor climber and I haven't climbed for over half a year now, because of the lockdowns. These videos at least keep my hopes up that I will be able to climb in the summer.

You guys should go for a hard red point route Adams style and then a speed granite climb Alex s style , kind of friendly competition that Climbing will win.
