That conductor is fantastic...he really slowed things down at "...stand there with the wizard" so that Steph could hold the notes out for fourteen years each, then sped things right back up, perfectly in-sync with what Steph was trying to do. This whole performance rocked! Stephanie is one of the best.

steph should have originated it. she worked so hard during the workshop process and they just went with idina for the bigger name

Carleigh Ethridge She auditioned for Boy from Oz because everything was unsure & Liza picked SJB to play her. But we got a whole CD with SJB! :D

The wizard and I was written for Idina Menzel, there’s plenty of interviews where Stephen Schwartz talks about writing it for her

Thats the exact reson. They said they wanted someone with Broadway credits. They didn't want to take a risk on such a big show.

@littlemissskin she actually did understand Elphaba because she sort of went through some bullying when she was a kid, so she truly understood what Elphaba was feeling throughout the show.

@lcowles I never claimed they were at the level of those legends and the notion that these girls feel their work in this show or others where they've taken over for others is trite is laughable. Of course they'd rather be originating roles but the fact that they continue to perform these songs in their concerts (for Julia, going so far as to give concerts in honor of working with Wicked) shows that they love and are grateful for the role.

@lcowles Neither Stephanie nor Julia is particularly young or hurting for career recognition.

@littlemissskin she's too old tho surely, movies are HD these days and it wouldn't work her being at 'uni'

@lcowles Amen to all that. And why keep making so many rotten musicals out of movies? There have been only a handful that have worked but the mediocrity started with Applause, Sugar and now musicals made from marginal films like Leap of Faith.

Can you say OVER. THE. TOP. Yikes. Let's root some of this in reality.

its a musical about a green girl from munchkinland with magical powers, what part of that is unrealistic??
