      I do believe you're right. But the background was back in the day all these companies in real life were in a rush to be the first in the phone book so you'd get like ACME Pawn, ACME Truck and Tool, or ACME Toiletries. ACME turned out an eye catching yet generic name perfect for Looney Tunes.

    Fun fact: Marvin the Martian didn't have an official name back in the early Looney Tunes shorts. His given name from Chuck Jones (Antwerp) was never used in any cartoon. It wasn't until the big marketing boom of the 'Tunes in the 70s and 80s where WB gave him the name Marvin when putting him on merchandise.

    Just hearing them talk about Looney Tunes is mesmerizing, but I really would like to see them dive into the lesser directors' works, with some of them being more incredible than they are given the credit for.
    Bob McKimson had the roaring Foghorn Leghorn, some really compassionate takes on Hollywood and TV at the time, Bugs Bunny taking on the ENTIRE USA, really unapologetically wild stuff; Art Davis gave some pretty cool one-off cartoons, really zany yet on-model character animations, some unusual settings and really witty writings!

    • @FrothingFanboy
      @FrothingFanboy Před 5 lety +3

      Bob Clampett is probably the wildest of the directors. His trademarks are extremely exaggerated motions and highly surreal plots/settings. Some of his highlights are Draftee Daffy (the little man from the draft board), The Great Piggy Bank Robbery ("Duck Twacy"), and Porky In Wackyland, a black-and-white cartoon that is straight-up Dali imagery.

    I remember my dad laughing his ass off at the one where Bugs is the Easter bunny. There's this maniac little kid (who is sucking a pistol as a pacifier when Bugs enters) that keeps beating on him throughout the episode shouting, "I wanna Easter egg I wanna Easter egg!!!" Eventually Bugs paints Elmer's head like an Easter egg and whistles for the kid, and he starts beating the shit out of Elmer's head with a hammer. Lol. RIP Dad. That was your fave.

    There's an episode where WILE E. COYOTE lights up a bomb. The moment the match touches the fuse, the bomb explodes. It's not just funny; it's smart because it subverts our expectations. Actually, subversion is usually done when something has been used for a long time. This episode is from the 40s, where bombs hadn't been used for that long in cartoons. In that sense, this joke was ahead of its time.

    • @aidanredding8058
      @aidanredding8058 Před 2 lety +1

      The best part of that joke is the build up. We see this long, twisty track the coyote built and he has the bomb at the top. You think it's gonna roll down the track, fly back, land on him and explode, but nope. It just explodes immediately. It kills me every time.

This video is forty minutes and you four didn't even mention my favorite characters, the 40s mobsters that Bugs tricks (and the Irish Cop with the oven), not a complaint it's a testament to just how much great material there is within Looney Tunes and how everyone has their own subjective favorite moments and characters. This conversation could have been three hours long and would have felt barely fifteen minutes.
