      @@pegasus5287 "over the vax mandates."
      what vax mandates?
the only mandates for vaccinations are, if you want to travel overseas, or if you work for the government.
some private businesses also mandate vaccinations.
but really, if you're gonna leave the medical field over being mandated to have a vaccine against a pandemic, you shouldn't be in the medical field at all.

Honestly, how can anyone blame them? They spend many years learning how to be doctors and then are under threat for treating women for reproductive issues, 24/7. It's simply not a feasible option for most of them, so of course they will go elsewhere. Some states will end up with an actual medical desert, where docs are few and far between. They will suffer more mothers dying and much higher infant mortality and every thinking person can see this coming. Civilised countries dont treat women or doctors this way, period.

Well, here come the consequences of terrible Republican policy.
Journalists should have been on this a long time ago. Texas saw a 10% drop in medical graduates heading there in 2022, that number could have only grown in 2023, and you know it's even worse in 2024. Even a 10% drop is not sustainable, because you need new starters just to maintain adequate levels of care to cover retirees, that doesn't even factor in a growing population or changes in medical needs due to spikes in seasonal illness. Couple that with the loss of staff leaving for work in a better state where they aren't threatened with imprisonment just for doing their jobs, and the loss of training staff able to teach new arrivals, and you have exponential growth of decline in services.
The same is going to happen to teaching, because hundreds of thousands of teachers want to escape the culture war bs the Republicans are inflicting on them.
The people who support these failed policies seem to be unable to work out the inevitable consequences of their own stupidity. They seem to think it will only impact the people they want to target with these policies. But just as we're seeing in Florida with the loss of migrant workers leading to businesses failing, it's all going to have a knock-on impact on tax revenues, education standards, general medical care and so much more.
Another good example is Republican states attacking colleges. Students bring money into the community, they work part-time jobs for low pay in bars and restaurants, when your policies threaten those students and they decide to go and study elsewhere you not only see a decline in the student population, you see a decline in tax revenues, loss of business and staff for bars and restaurants, all the supporting industries start to decline.
Just ask Detroit what happened due to losing a couple of car plants - and they weren't even integral to public services. That economic collapse happened not just because the plants closed, but because all of the supporting businesses lost their workers, people moved out, stores had to close leading to more unemployment, tax revenues collapsed leading to less investment, leading to more people leaving, leading to more businesses closing, leading to more unemployment.
When you vote for politicians who put ideology above common sense and mathematical reality, this is what you get.

Source? A quick Google search brings up dozens of operating Ob/Gyn locations (clinics, hospitals, women's health centers), all over ID.
US Health has 302 Ob/Gyns currently listed and available in ID.
Do you mean less than 5 that do abortion are present in ID? Because most specialists that perform abortion are not actually Ob/Gyns, but rather are nurses or other medical personnel who have training in abortion procedures.
Only about 14% of all Ob/Gyns are abortion providers (via peer reviewed paper, conducted for Obstet Gynecol, 2011, found on National Library of Medicine)
And that overall, for the country, in 2011. 2011. Way before Roe v. Wade was overturned.
I'm very curious to see where you heard that there is only 5 Ob/Gyns for the entire state.
But you're not going to cite it, are you.
Btw, I'm a woman, and I've voted pro-Choice my entire life. Just FYI.
Won't be anymore, of course. Because it's become very clear the past couple years that my former side is playing that "ends justify the means" game. Lie, cheat, steal, fear-monger. Won't play that game anymore. Won't play it for the other side, either. I'll never support another party again. Only sane ideas with PROOF behind them.
      So I ask again.. source?

      It's going to be millions.
You see, the morons who cheered for all of this failed to think any further than their own ignorant ideology, so they're not able to realize that chasing medical staff and teachers out of your state will mean a decline in services for EVERYONE.
Class sizes are about to start doubling in the states where they're engaged in a culture war against education, increasing the stress on the teachers who remain, leading to exponential decline in education standards.
The same is happening to medicine generally in these states. Graduates are going elsewhere, teaching staff are leaving for sane states, the workload on those who stay behind grows until it's unbearable...
Republicans have created a nexus of idiocy by attacking healthcare, education and business investment (no corporation is going to invest and expand into a region where healthcare and economics are collapsing).
November will be decisive. Millions of people are holding on hoping that things change, and when they don't there's going to be a mass internal migration.

That route passed through La Grande, Pendleton, and Hermiston, to name a few, all of which have large hospitals that are inundated with patients right now.
What is really laughable is that we have had ballots up for vote by the Republicans about annexing part of Oregon into Idaho. The majority of the South Eastern portion of the state is pure MAGA extremist rural Republican, and they want to join Idaho. 🙄

While that was primarily triggered by the loss of industry, the impact of fleeing labor led to massive reduction in tax revenues, followed by skyrocketing unemployment in the supporting industries. In this case it's going to be worse and it will happen more quickly, because it's not a gradual collapse of industry which then leads to a collapse in vital services, they're skipping the start and going straight into causing a collapse of those vital services.

Oh my God! Doctors don't want to practice in an area where their life saving decisions are potentially scrutinized/undermined/made retroactively illegal under a standard so vague they risk prison even if they do _everything_ right, and that while walking a tightrope that means their potential patients have to be actively dying already, when it makes no sense to let them get that far along since it can often be avoided? When neither medical reality nor a patient's needs/desires matter at all in the face of laws put in place largely by men & religious zealots whose religious opinions don't belong in government or medicine?
    I am so, so shocked!

When the politicians/judges start facing a crisis with a daughter or granddaughter with an at-risk pregnancy, then things might change. Then again, they'll probably just very quietly send their loved one to a blue state for life saving medical care.

    • @vrsalcedo7245
      @vrsalcedo7245 Před 3 měsíci

They definitely will send them off to a blue state for medical care. If it gets out that Gov. So and So's daughter went to a hospital in another state to get a medically necessary abortion, they will scream from the highest hills that their family's medical situations are personal and their privacy should be respected. Then they will try to sue anyone they can. And still pass laws against abortion. GOP politicians have no shame. Cruelty IS the point.

I'm from Idaho. My mother's family is from Idaho, since before it was a state. I moved back a year ago to help care for my grandmother. She and my parents have been asking when I'll have a baby. I told them never. Never in this state that would rather have me die. The risk is not worth it. Idaho didn't used to be this way. Did you know it was one of the first to allow women to vote? It's changed so much and not in a good way. The state that existed a decade ago is gone. It's another place now. A cruel and selfish one. As soon as I can I'll leave.
