    I ride english, but honestly, western horses are so agile and intellegent. Specially watching the cutting. The horse just following the movements. I think the steer wresting looks just a bit dangerous... but noone can say that western horses and rides aren't agile. Beautiful to watch

    Dressage and Three Day Eventer here. I'm in awe at these horses and riders. I think both my horse and I would run away screaming. There's always going to be people saying one thing is better than the other or trying to put the other disciplines down but I myself have to sit back and give y'all western riders a big round of applause.

      Western sure is fun 😂 it's a lot messier and probably quite a bit more dangerous. English is more about precision and looks. Western is more about getting the job done.

    C’mon y’all, tie down and steer wrestling isn’t going to hurt the cow. Most of the cattle used in the wrestling weigh in from 450-650 lbs, being tossed down like that isn’t going to hurt them. Cows aren’t made of paper, they rarely ever get hurt in these practices, and when they do the contestant is disqualified and that animal is taken out of the competition.
    Also- have any of y’all seen how flexible a cows neck is? They can reach flies on their rump like no big deal. This is nothing. If you don’t do your homework before you comment, maybe you should keep your prim and proper opinion to yourself.

    It was very interesting to learn about the different types of western riding! I didn't know it was so diverse, honestly. I've been riding English for around a year (broken into two 6 months intervals) and I just learned about everything in that, now I feel extra well rounded, haha. I personally love jumping and such, but some of that looks really fun! I always loved trail riding as a kid too

    I'm a dressage rider normally. I have a crap seat due to fear. My Lippizaner gelding is a bomb under saddle and I'm picking up a treeless western saddle so I can stay on. He's a good boy and never mean. He get worried. I also have a QH mare who was western most of her life, though last time I tried to put a western saddle on she had a PTSD type melt down. She was with some less savory people at one point. The training of War dressage and western events like reining is actually very similar at it's core. You want balance, power, collection, and absolute communication with your horse.

  • @enyaling6841

    Ok, I understand why some people would be worried about the cow getting hurt or stressed; but seriously? I would think it would've been shut down or stopped if they were murdering cows and abusing horses.
    And what the heck is all this anti-western. Seriously, I've seen plenty of awesome western riders that care very much about their horses and other animals. Accidents will happen.

    Roping is a sport. Do u kno how much training and hard work it takes to rope. More then u would even know. And cow have neck and horn supports on. Its not cruelty. We treat our high school rodeo rough stock with the best care we have. So dont talk bad about something u know nothin about. Keep ur mind on something ur knowledgeable. Leave the sport of rodeoing to the pros. Oh and english/jumping isnt hard on a horse? Just keep that in mind.

    im definetly not insulting english riding. i have done a lot of jumping and english riding myself for a few trainers. my point was that even being in the wild, things are hard on horses. like ground conditions, food and water. i quite enjoy english and jumping as a break from rodeoing, grantid i would give up rodeoing to jump. but english teaches good center of balance, confidence and is a great work out.

  • @tiffanischoff5310
    @tiffanischoff5310 Před 10 lety +4

    Wait, correct me, please, but aren't most western riding events based off of skills needed in a cow ranching setting? And, honestly, I love watching english riding - well, the jumping mostly, the way those horses move over those jumps so smoothly, it's breathtaking - but it's quite pointless, entertainment only, while a lot of western riding skills you could - theoretically - actually use outside of entertainment. Just saying for everyone bragging about how english riding is in the Olympics...think about that for a bit. I ride western - just trail riding - but I would love to learn english, especially jumping. And stop being so damn snobby, you are giving english riders a stigma. The only ones complaining about crude, cruel western, is you uptight, snobby english riders.

Every horse is taught differently.They do it as an encouragement tool thats there choice nothin inhumane about it. Its a speed competition they do what they can to get the best time but what they are doing is not humane its how the horses are taught to run. my horse moves with kicking whipping clicking and kissing. my horse likes the whip/responds well. it depends on the horse and how its trained.

    K for one not trying to be rude. I rodeo Every weekend! roping takes so much work and practice. and what your watching around 3.00 is NOT roping. Its steer wrestling. That may look like it will injure the cow but I promise it doesnt if its done by people who know what they are doing.(which they know what they r doing) I mean cows in a field look at how they bend and twist to lick their backends its not harmful. niether is roping or steer wrestling!

    • @addiewatson5372
      @addiewatson5372 Před 9 lety

      Rocketninja200 My only issue with it is it looks a little rough when they flip the calf in the tie down roping and with team roping its probably not the most comfortable for the cow having a hind leg pulled so hard. But other than that I say go for it, just be careful.

    • @Rocketninja200
      @Rocketninja200 Před 9 lety

      As our country becomes more urbanized, less is understood about farming/ ranching. I see a blogs and articles that make us out to be villains. The calves have enough body mass that it doesn't harm them. Roping calves is necessary to give them immunizations, brand them with dry ice (not heat which can lead to infection), and other veterinarian check ups. Yes it freaks them out. However, it harms them no more than when you take a small child to the doctor for inoculations, check ups, etc.

      Saga Keek it’s a very, VERY rare occurrence, and only happens when someone outside the arena makes a mistake. There have been cases when a steer or calf who’s green to the profession will stop instead of keeping up with the horse, which can give one nasty head jerk.
      Though, again, that’s the fault of the arena- a green steer should never be used in a professional setting, only in training where it’s not as up to speed.

    As tough as the horses' skin is? - Hon, a horse can feel a fly on it's skin all over the body - the skin is very sensitive and if you teach the horse correctly to move when told, you don't need a whip at all - my horse could move that fast with voice. I never had to use a whip - not that I say that's wrong to use it, but using it like that in the clip is just wrong and inhumane.
