You need to update the Richmond song to the current Fable Singers version with ‘risking head and shin’.
Also, Sydney need the updated 2021 version to ‘why her loyal swans are marching onwards to victory’

i remember being shocked when I found out that the traditional victorian club songs were recorded in the 70's. They sound like they were recorded after the war, the first world war that is!

I personally think that North's is awesome and Port's and Freo's are right down the bottom for me. Very different tastes, obviously.
@@anguseverist4178 i have to agree with you, I think the attempts by port and freo to make something modern-sounding just end up sounding corny. imo gold coast succeeded at making their song modern but also fresh and creative
@@thevikingpro4052 My big problem with Port's song is although it's only two minutes it feels like it goes on for a goddamned eternity. At least St Kilda keeps it short but sweet.
If I didn't know any better I would think the West Coast Eagles song is a pop song on the radio...

A question: Are you familiar with the CD released in the 1990s entitled "More Than a Game: The Footy Album"? It contains the club theme songs for the then-sixteen AFL teams. My question is: Are these the official versions that were played at the stadiums at the time? OR where these newly recorded versions specifically for this CD? I would appreciate your informed answer. I don't see the AFL logo on this CD nor do I see any licensing information from either the league or the clubs. This makes me suspect these are recordings made specifically for this CD. Thanks.

Depends on what version of the album you got, the album on iTunes mostly features re-recorded versions of the club songs, with the exception of Adelaide (who had their 1994-1996 club song), Brisbane Lions (which had their official club song as above), North Melbourne & Sydney (which had their official club songs, although the Sydney one above is a re-recording from a couple of years ago that is now their official one), Port Adelaide (which had their original club song from 1997 to early 2000's) and the Western Bulldogs (which had their official club song as above). And as far as I know, none of the clubs used the re-recorded versions to play in the stadiums during their games (with the exception of Hawthorn, who I remember they played the re-recorded version when they won the 2008 premiership against Geelong).
That being said, that "More Than A Game" album has been re-released several times since 1994. I've actually got a copy of the album on CD that was re-released in 1997, and it has all the offical club songs as above, with the exception of Adelaide (again, their 1994-1996 club song, the one above has been used since at least 1998), Fremantle (which had their original club song from 1995-2011; the one above is a shortened remixed version of their original club song), Sydney (which had their original club song from the 1970's to 2017; but the re-recorded offical club song above is exactly identical to the original, which was actually recorded when they were still based in South Melbourne, and then it got replaced during the 1980s with a couple of other songs, but it was brought back not long after, with the word "Swans" being overdubbed where "Souths" used to be sung in the song), and West Coast Eagles (who had their original club song from 1987 to 1999; the one above has only been around since 2020).
@@Coadz95 Thank you for your detailed reply. In the last year I've been able to obtain three versions of the "More Than Just a Game" CD and I assume these are all of them. They are:
Fable Records, catalog number 8145822, copyright date MCMXCV = 1995, yellow background on right side of front cover
Fable Records, catalog number 7243 8 59120 2 3, copyright date MCMXCVII = 1997, green background on right side of front cover
Fable Records / EMI, catalog number 7243 4 99752 2 4, copyright date MCMXCIX = 1999, blue background on right side of front cover
Since this was an expansion period for the AFL, it is understandable why updated versions of this compilation were made.
Also, as of this date, I have a copy of this CD being shipped to me: "Footy Cub Songs", Label: MRA Entertainment, catalog number MRM00004, copyright date 2007. This CD bears the "AFL Official" logo on the top right corner of the cover. I am assuming since this is an official AFL product, the recordings on this CD are the official club songs as used in the ovals at the time. Once received, I will have to listen carefully to these recordings alongside the Fable CDs versions.

So I asked my 9yo daughter which song was the best - excluding the Demons (ie vote for anything but you're own).
She unequivocally thinks the Giants song rocks and they are now her second favourite team.
It sounds like a Disney villain theme. So yeah it's definitely good.

I’m an Eagles supporter and I like the song but I don’t think it works as a theme song for a footy team. I personally like the same songs you put in your top 5 with the doggies replacing Port or the Suns
@@xavier_dh yeah its a radio song. And they changed the timing in the lines of the chorus, which is quite idiotic when you think about it. fans that have been belting it out for 34 years and have it down to muscle memory are always out of time/step with the song after a victory.
