@@sportandabeer1171 It doesn't exist in two places. Fitzroy went into administration, then came out of administration. It was no longer in the AFL and it's top flight records and such paid homage to by the merged entity in Brisbane, but the Brisbane Lions are not Fitzroy. Fitzroy itself came out of administration and resumed playing in the VAFA.
The Adelaide Crows changing their name to that of a mid-sized Japanese sedan is a piece of history that should never be forgotten.

This was the same year when Brisbane and Fitzroy merged, so their songs here was a great memory of those teams before the merger since we never really hear the Bears songs anymore now they are the Lions.
The bears song carries the same tune as a Christmas song from where I grew up (French Canada). When I stumbled upon this I was super confused then fell down the AFL rabbithole finding out about the Bears

It's one of the only recordings of that particular Bears team song available anywhere. The other one I know of is from the 1996 semi-final post-game.

Mighty lions that basically were incredibly financially unstable and still were in debt despite a bailout in the 80s by one of their few wealthy fans. They were a team that got by when the eagle was amateur yet as soon as wages came in and grew they never could stay afloat. Hell even their own fans and Baird admitted that merging with the Bears in 86 rather than 96 might have been the better idea.
It wasn't the original Brisbane song. That "honour" goes to "Dare To Beat The Bear".

Austin K Bears weren’t even a club in 86 so that’s false, plus the Roy’s were one of the founders of the league and won 7 premierships in the first 25 years. Also, devolving players like Bernie quinlan Kevin Murray and Haydn Bunton

What year was this if Port were not in the competition yet, and Brisbane were still there? Also, why does Melbourne's song have that new years eve song in the middle of the chorus?
1996 and the Demons have had that refrain in their song for centuries.
Brisbane Bears and Fitzroy Lions merged in 1996, Port joined in 1997.
Port officially gained license to join the AFL shortly after the centenary celebrations.
For a long time there is was believed Norwood was going to be the next team to step up from SANFL to AFL status & there was a media outcry at the time over it.
Port Adelaide officially played their first AFL game as Port Power in 1997.

This was during the 1996 season in the months leading up to the Grand Final even Port Adelaide weren’t in the comp until the following year.
