    Did a similar trip in mine when I collected it. Cumbria to Bedfordshire - 45mpg average on the display. I was super surprised. I generally stick mine in eco on a motorway for the commute then back into comfort for normal roads as the eco mode throttle map is junk for stop start driving. Oh and mines a manual.

    Eco mode would shift sooner and probably would make you more economical when accelerating due to the throttle mapping and shift points. In my car with the n63, eco mode also lets the coolant get much hotter (113C) before opening the thermostat, thus being more efficient.

    As i understand it the manual its pretty uneconomical on a long run. I'm told in 6th cog its running at about 2.5 to 3 thousand revs...drinking it! I know you mentioned about whether it uses more juice in comfort or sport at 70mph...i've tried that out and if you're cruising along at 70 in comfort, check your fuel economy gauge wotsit...then change to sport and at the same speed to relative mpg is lower at the same speed...flick it back and it better despite the revs being the same and the speed being the same #baffled

  • @filmboy18
    @filmboy18 Před 2 lety +1

    It's not really that impressive tbh. It's direct injection so it should be very economical when cruising no matter the engine size (to a certain point), injector size, power or any other modifications engine wise. Auto boxes don't really lower economy like they use to. Nowadays they are way more efficient and actually help. I'm thinking of buying a 140 at some point in the future (currently have a 350hp fiesta) so this is a good insight into what to expect fuel consumption wise.

    Just throwing in here. With the passing of the Australian automotive industry, Cars like my Holden Commodore (Vauxhaul VXR over there) have shot up in price astronomically. Considering cars that were 40-60K AUD (25-40K pounds... aka "a fiver") are now commanding easily 60-100 to even 250K it just didn't make sense to keep buying a large Aussie car anymore.
    So I started looking for a smaller hot hatch to replace my 10 year old VE, looking at things like the Golf and the RS.. but one thing always got me. Front Wheel drive is no fun.
    Beemers are considered a luxury brand over here (starting at 60k for a base model) so they had never even entered my mind as a fun car, but after a friend recommended a 135 and a few of your videos later I ordered a second hand 140 sight unseen, sort by cheapest and blue, of the Internet (no my names not Moog! ha!). It turns up later this week and I'm sure I'm going to have a blast.
    PS: I've already ordered a blue start button.

    My average over the last 2000 miles in all types of driving is 35 mpg. Interestingly that with MHD stage 2. When it was still stage 1 it was more like 32 mpg. If anyone has MHD, I would encourage you to go straight to stage 2. The car is better in all respects. The trade off is that you really ought to change your plugs and coils first, and your oil change interval should be no more than 6000 miles.
