It's all focused grouped, apparently a lot of viewers don't like Romo predicting the plays because it's like the annoying friend who has seen the movie you are watching and insists on telling you how everything works out. So watching shit happen at random is more entertaining, each to their own.
2:42 “The quarterback’s gonna roll right and launch it out of bounds it’s gonna look weird” I actually laughed because for no reason was he so accurate on his prediction
He's changed the way color commentators do their job. There are probably other CC's that can do what he does, but I don't think they want to risk being wrong.
Kev P There is a chance that the NFL planned for Romo to be the first to start being a star commentator who predicts plays. NFL is all about money they will do anything to hook their viewers
Compilation Station how is it “pre-planned”? Who else among 2000s QBs is doing commentary? The game Troy Aikman played is nothing like the game Romo played despite being just a few years later. If Brees, Manning, Brady were on TV they could do this
I think also Romo took a “I have nothing to lose approach,” he made a good living in the NFL and was already doing some endorsements. Some of these (no disrespect) average players maybe putting more eggs in their basket with broadcasting, or are taking a year off from playing/coaching
@Redden Molina I respectfully disagree. Listen to Kevin Harlan's call of the black cat running on the field during the Cowboys-Giants game on 11/4/19. It's an absolute classic!
Tony Romo is the best commentator of all time. Tony calls the game. Tony is not trying to get into exposing players personal off field antics like Other commentators. Please get that Chris collingsworth BS outta here!
To be fair, it was a sarcastic call because they had run to the left like 50 times before then. I loved watching that smash-mouth Tennessee stuff last year.
Joel Nordness I think it was the “kill kill” cause in that raider game the third clip they said kill then kill kill so he says “I thought they were going right but they’re going left”
I mean, Romo was a great QB. His numbers are Hall caliber, he just lacks the playoff success to actually make it. (Not to mention he played at a time with a ridiculous generation of QB talent. Rodgers, Manning, Rivers, Brees, Ryan, Brady, etc) Dallas did a poor job of surrounding him with impact talent, similar to how they wasted most of Ware's career on the defensive side. Romo was battered week in and week out for a decade before they bother addressing the OLine.
As a Redskins fan I have a natural aversion to Dallas QB’s ,but I must admit I rather enjoy Tony’s game calling . I find his insight and candor informative and delightful . Tony speaks like he’s still playing and it makes me feel like I’m on the bench with him .
If anyone has read Romo's article a few years back. Tony specifically said,"I want to be a offensive coordinator when I retire." Where he goes, we don't know as of yet.
A Baggs Please tell us why and share this hidden wisdom that only you have with the rest of us. He's not going anywhere. He's already revolutionized the color commentating role and is the league's best at it after only two years.
He's awesome..its even more impressive because the backlash by pundits or fans if he doesnt get calls right would be brutal..you really have to have some onions to feel so confident your actually gonna reveal on the telecast what the play is gonna be.
I love watching football because of romo and I’m the biggest cowboys fan so I grew up watching him as my quarterback so it’s a win win and I can tell he’s really happy broadcasting
Someone might try to pull a prank on him by "accidentally" hooking up his microphone to the stadium's sound system, and then someone like Tom Brady or Philip Rivers will shout "stop calling my plays Tony!".
He's not really spoiling anything because the offense still has to execute the play. He often just makes it more interesting because you can focus in more on what actually happens. I'm for it
Calling out plays, understanding and breaking down offenses and defense. Such great commentating. I hope more guys are brought in, that are like Romo. Just a bunch of Football junkies. I'm tired of hearing "You can FEEL that he wants to win more, than the other guy" or other stupid lines like that.
This is why I think Romo was a great qb. I’m biased and the injuries, but when he was in the best winning circumstances he was cold af. His football IQ is through the roof.
HE JUST DID IT AGAIN! I'm watching the Lions/Texans game, and after that amazing pick 6 by JJ Watt, Romo says that turnovers "come in waves"... 3... 2... 1.. seconds after he says that.. FUMBLE! Hey Jim Nance! If you want Romo money, you need to start predicting the future. LMAO!
I love this insight. This is what happens when former players become analyst and not just old white guys with a good speaker voice. I’d love to hear Deion calling out the D and Romo calling out the O.
Honestly Romo was a solid QB his whole career. He got way too much hate from Dallas fans. He was a top 7 or so QB every year. The starting QB shouldn’t even be holding for kicks he’s got more important things to worry about
he is by far the best color commentator…. he know’s exactly what he’s talking about, and he actually teaches you the game if you don’t know everything.
Perfect example of how intelligent Romo is. He might not be Tom Brady, but he’s easily one of the most intelligent players I’ve ever seen. Amazing QB and definitely underrated
The insane stuff was like when you see the line and rb lined up perfectly symmetrical, there is no telling which way it will be ran or if it is even a run, and Tony would call a run to the left and it would be. It was like how? sometimes on the defense told him thats where its going, the left or right wouldn't be stacked or any easy give aways.
Just read that Romo is getting a huge raise to $17 million per year to continue his TV analyst work. $17 per year is insane! I have to say, he definitely deserves it. His knowledge of the game is disgusting. A true expert in play-calling strategy as you would expect from a former All-Pro quarterback.
Romo may be one of the best color commentators of all time. He's almost ALWAYS right. Only time he wasn't was the GUTSY play the Chiefs made against the Browns with Chad Henne on 4th down
