USA presidents Oval Office change the inside 1909 to 2021: the last 100 years!

- The Oval Office became the central place of every American president since the beginning of the 20th century- It’s a tradition for every incoming president to change the décor in the Oval Office- from the upholstery to the wallpapers. The process is meant to reflect a president’s individual personality and intentions in office, as well as putting their own stamp on the world’s most illustrious room-
It also reflects how the president sees and represents their own country and how they display the sovereignty of the US to the dignitaries of other countries- as the room is used to meet them and share important messages with the citizens. The Oval Office isn’t just for show- Just like any other office, the presidents also use it for day-to-day work and meetings with the staff.
As part of their 50th-anniversary celebrations, American Home Shield decided to look back at the Oval Office’s evolution from 1909 to 2021. In 1909- during the West Wing expansion- William Howard Taft decided to move his office from the Roosevelt Room into what’s now arguably the most iconic seat of power in the world.

The animations between the different offices are quite distracting, because it's difficult to see what really changed.
I agree, they should fade from one to the other. The most obvious way of doing the transitions, I don't know why they didn't.
I mostly just noticed that there were some colour changes but there might have been more subtle things I didn't notice because of that.
I agree, this ruined the video for me.
Looks like not much changed until Truman, then Eisenhower didn't change much -still a green carpet. JFK switched to red....
@@BBC600 cracking toasts mate
So Truman was really the first one to be like, “man, we need to spruce this place up!”
he killed nearly everyone in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, he wanted to take his mind off of it
He had to move out of the White House when it was gutted and rebuilt, so why not make some changes to the West Wing too.
they completely redid the whole white house while he was president and the budget for actually decorating the place was jacked way up so he could actually afford to do what presidents before him could only dream of.
The reason truman had to remodel
Because the Whitehouse was in disrepair, he was sitting at a piano and one of the table legs fell through the floor.
@@Mhatsim pretty sure he felt proud about it. Not only did he retaliate against Japan’s actions, he also saved more lives in other countries
I am a history nerd so trust me here - I love this type of stuff but there area a LOT of errors in this video. The offices from Taft to Hoover were in a completely different building that was demolished by Franklin Roosevelt and a completely different West Wing Building (with a resized and relocated Oval Office) was constructed in 1934. The first Oval Office layout (1913 building) only had windows behind the president’s desk, NO GLASS DOORS OR WINDOWS WERE ON THE LEFT SIDE of the original Oval as this animation shows. This animation keeps the same layout for the original and current Oval Office which is completely wrong.
Kennedy’s office is totally wrong. He had a light blue carpet & drapes for a nautical themed Oval Office. In November 1963 his wife Jackie wanted to see what a red carpet would look like so when the first couple left for a two day Texas Tour on November 21st 1963 the folks at the White House changed the carpet and drapes to red to see if JFK would like it. Very sadly President Kennedy was murdered in front of his wife the next day in Dallas, Texas. JFK would never even get to see his “red Oval Office.” When he returned to the White House he was in a casket. Very sad.
This deserves more likes. Thank you.
So both the Oval Office and the Presidential Limousine got red floors on the same day?

@@L1berty1776 It's certainly unique, and is clearly a result of the type of person that jimmy carter was. I do think that just by virtue of offering people a seat for long briefs or putting a couch facing the fireplace he at the very least had some worthwhile ideas. It was the Oral Office for Mr. Clinton
@@emmanuel1687 geez i wonder why
This is actually a misconception. Both Bill and Monica have said that their interactions happened in an adjacent bathroom outside of the Oval Office, which makes sense as I would imagine the oval being way too public with people barging in at every second. So no “gluck gluck 3000” was given in the oval.
@@lucianheller8619 I just find it funny that the usual story bothered them enough that they both came out to confirm it's not accurate, and then give the exact location it actually happened 😂
Kennedy was also the one who brought the resolute desk back into the oval. Jackie found it in a storage room covered with a blanket. It was being used as a camera stand at one point in the Eisenhower Admin. Pres Reagan had 4 inches added to the base because he wanted more leg room underneath.
And LBJ and GHW Bush each had the audacity to use a less historically significant desk...
To be fair, it makes sense that LBJ and Nixon weren't using it as it was placed in a museum after JFK was shot.
Yeah! Kinda cool the desk was a gift from the British in the 1800s
I bet Clinton really enjoyed the extra leg room under the desk.
By pausing and using my arrow keys to forward and backward, I was able to flip easily between versions and really find interesting changes. One of the most interesting things to me is who used other presidents' pieces. Biden kept Trumps drapes and brought back Clinton's rug. Carter kept most of Ford's things, just rearranged them. Interesting that no one had a seating arrangement around the fireplace till Kennedy. We might guess that was Jackie's doing.
