I'm just noticing that Athena's ears are popping up through some of this video 😂

I had a x-mas cactus for over 20+ years and this new one is about 7 now and they were and are orange color. I also have 2 Easter ones for 2 years in a light orange. I feel the x-mas ones are a stronger species and they bloom for much longer. In fact, I don't hide mine in darkness at all and mine blooms a bit earlier than x-mas till April non-stop. I would like to get a T-giving one this year and see how I do with that one. I haven't seen any variegated ones here at all but I know some people order them online. Let us know next December if you see them at your store. They are a very underrated plant for sure for all the beautiful flowers they bring and brighten our gray cloudy winter days!

I love seeing the flowers in winter! They are very festive, and bring us a little color when things seem dreary. I'm not sure how stable the variegation would be, but I have seen them for sale online. I agree with your statement about the Christmas one being easier than the Easter one. It's funny how they can be similar and yet so different.

No problem! This one is a Christmas cactus, but the other one I talked about isn't.

Super underrated because they’re so common. I love them. My MIL has some HUGE ones. I’ll have to ask how old they are.

When they get really big, they start to develop the woody secondary growth, which is pretty cool. I'd love to see some out in the wild! Let me know what she says!

Hey I'll take my Schlumbergera medium well done, with a side of onion rings and a medium coke 😂😂.....I was gifted a tiny one in April, the lady says its makes a pink flower, it's doing fine for now, it apparently thrives on neglect, yours is lovely, do a video about your cat. 😂😂

If the flowering instructions for this thing sound familiar, it's basically the same treatment that you'd give poinsettia or Flaming Katy. Although in all three cases, I've had pretty good luck getting them to flower without being vigilant about putting them in the closet or anything like some people do, the naturally lower light levels and not bothering to water them for two or three months seems to be enough. Might be able to get a few more blooms out of these kinds of plants if I did it "properly" but I'm way too lazy. Maybe if I'm feeling adventurous I can automate it.

Yeah it can be a lot of work. I might try it this year, just for fun, but I have some other plant projects I need to work on also.

@@banesbotanicals1287 I also once got a thanksgiving cactus to flower... under a 24-hour grow light. That was interesting. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@@DragoniteSpam I've never fully understood the difference between Thanksgiving cactus and Christmas cactus.

@@banesbotanicals1287 The leaf shapes are different but aside from that the only meaningful difference that I know of is what time they appear in stores :p

@@DragoniteSpam I honestly don't think I've ever seen a Thanksgiving cactus in a store here, unless I just mistook it for a Christmas one. I imagine they're both Schlumbergera.
