I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one who cries every time I see Nestor's story. But not only do I cry out of sadness, but also because God's grace and love are real.

God's grace and love are real and wonderful. But I have problems with fictional cutesy characters being implanted into the most significant sacred thing to have ever happened on Earth, the core of our faith. Both this and Little Drummer Boy stories/songs both do that. I think its borderline blasphemous. But I watch both of these great stop-motion animated specials anyway.

I am a total sap and I cried a lot during this movie. I'm actually glad that everyone else gets sad, too. Makes me feel less like a child.

As I child I would watch this every Christmas and cry and wail feeling so sorry for Nestor and even worse when his mother died. I am 53 years old now and still watch it.... I just cry in private. Missing my own parents this Christmas.

This is something that is lacking in our media today. Children need values that also teaches innocence and imagination. That is what this taught me when I was a child.
I watched this movie as a kid when it syndicated on ABC Family now Freeform, Its one of my favorite stop motion Christmas specials, which I continue to watch every year!
Not Christian but this song is less about religion and more about a character learning to love their oddities
I totally agree Nestor is way more emotional than Rudolph but I still love both of them equally when he lost his Mommy my heart broke 😢

I fondly remember this as a child, the one I watched was narrated by Roger Miller..NOT raised in a home that knew about Jesus or the true meaning of Christmas..I didn’t as a child understand why the lady was riding on a donkey..this movie drew me in, there was something so peaceful about it.. and yes I cried when Nestors mother dies, and I loved the angel Tilly. But most of all now that I Am a Christian.. I know now why I was drawn to the movie.. I NOW KNOW the reason for Christmas and have encountered the baby that became a man and died for me.. this movie has stayed in my heart for years and I am in my late 60’s. Sure wish I could find a DVD of it..

Best christmas movie with the biggest meaning
Halfway through this song... I’m crying. I struggle a small bit with the religious part of this movie since for some reason their Mary’s appearance scares me, (perhaps it’s because her face looks blank?) but this is still my favorite after Rudolph. All of my favorite Christmas movies feature characters who are teased, outcasted, alienated or picked on. I feel they deserve the most love. After all, I was born with Asperger’s. It’s a lot like having big ears or a red, glowing nose for me... and I find that I LIKE Christmas, but would prefer another holiday so I see the Grinch and I’m like “this is my man!”. Lol 😂

Everyone loves Rudolph but I love Nestor more because he delivered the greatest gift of all.
This Movie Makes me really sad. If anybody didn't watch this. You will be sad. This movie isn't a feel good movie like Rudolph. Its a story that makes you cry.
LIKE ONE SCENE. Where they throw Nestor out in the cold and his mother runs after him. She puts him underneath him, protecting him from the cold. Then when its morning, he's crying and it shows his mother buried under snow, dead. OMG. It was horrible. But at the end of the movie is happy again. But this is one of the saddest Christmas movies I ever saw.
This is the _best_ Christmas special made. It actually addresses the subject of the baby Jesus- the birth of our Saviour.

Because the heart of the meek man is the heart that has room for the Holy Spirit. It was sad movie at times, yes... but still one of the most beautiful Christmas movies I have ever seen in my 24 years. :)
the stupidest thing is that Nestor actually goes back to that same stable at the end of the movie, if I was him, I would have stayed with Mary and Joseph!

My mom would put this on for my sister every year and she’d cry, then when I got older she would make me cry. Now every year my mom watched to see if I’m crying. I’m 21, I’m now showing my son Nester. He will cry too. Lolll

Yet another Christmas come & gone with Nestor being aired (@ least in Canada). While I love watching Rudolph Santa Claus Is Coming To Town & other Christmas specials it's a little sad they don't show this which is about the real meaning of Christmas. Maybe someone will air it for Christmas 2015 or I can find it on dvd.

+Tim O'Brien ABC Family Channel airs a very edited version of it ....I think the next time is Wednesday Dec 14...not sure of the time. I have not seen their version of it; I love the original. Last year you could watch the original version (24 minutes) on CZcams, but now there is only the 20 minute edited version on CZcams. You can also buy it on Amazon prime on a DVD with a Santa movie on it too for about $11.

I was there as a little boy when the idea for this song was hatched by Don Pfrimmer in the early 70s around a pool table at my dads friends house (Jack King) in Kodiak Alaska. We had no idea at the time he would really write it but he did and Don went on to be a successful song writer for years to come.

I wonder why they don't show Nestor, the Long Eared Donkey as often as most of the other Christmas specials year after year. I don't see any controversy to this special
For a kid back in the 80s who had spent all his school years being picked on and bullied THIS WAS THE WORST CHRISTMAS SPECIAL EVER!
Think about it.
He's born with a deformity, he's crying all the time because the other animals make fun of him, His Mom dies trying to keep him from freezing to death, Everywhere he goes he's being picked on and bullied, and just because he carries Mary to Bethlehem that makes all that misery worth it?
Not to mention the lyrics of the song. Nothing like "Nester's heart was broken and his eyes were filled with tears" to put you in the Christmas Spirit. I bawled my eyes out watching this torture. Mom was like "It's almost over, the Grinch is coming on next."

I know how Nestor feels because I got bullied growing up because of learning disabilities and I never had a real friend before
Nestor has become a special more people connect to then Rudolph. Both overcame and used the source of his torment for something good. Rudolph had a lucky break, however Nestor had to learn how to effectively use his oddity as a strength. We all could learn from that. Thank God for Nestor, showing us we can learn to use our oddities as strengths
