Not got a vw and not planning on fixing a turbo but just came across this video. Very informative and interesting nice work!
(Jonathan Davies) , what an arrogant unfair statement to make , the young guy BMAC VAGS has explained in layman terms exactly what you need to know , giving the home mechanic confidence to give things a try , we live we learn, and we don't have to pay ridiculous garage prices because of chaps like this giving up their time to share knowledge.
+Andrew Coull I appreciate that
He's not that young, you know :)
I guess Im asking the wrong place but does anyone know of a method to log back into an Instagram account?
I was dumb lost the password. I appreciate any tricks you can offer me.
@Marley Colin instablaster =)
@Matthias Nickolas I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site through google and Im trying it out atm.
Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Mate I'm doing this exact job tomorrow and the three vids you have on here are excellent! Great Job, Great Vids, thanks a lot
Great video mate!! I was pretty intimidated in even touching the turbo much less taking it apart but I think your video has inspired confidence now that I've seen the process through. Thanks a bunch! A hybrid turbo is definitely in the books now!
Brilliant! Thanks much. EXCELLENT vid. Commenting on all the obvious stuff helps a lot. Spending time to SHOW each little bit and action is key. Kudos to you sir. Peace.
Another gem, thanks for uploading. Great commentary and very informative!
You are the man! Love your vids. Thanks for another awesome post. I will be doing this today.
Very well done video! I am in the process of pulling my turbo, from my 2006 mk5 jetta tdi, and rebuilding it. So this will be a great help!
Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience with everyone. Good man.
Good and concise tutorial, clearer than many with handy tips, thanks.
Good job done, most importantly, the camera work & voice is clear for those who have difficulies understanding what some folks are saying.
TNX! really nice vid. I'm doing a head gasket replacement on a 1.8T engine in a Skoda Octavia, previously only worked on TDI engines in jeeps that the engine is turns 90° - I was scratching my head where the turbo is actually - did not know it's fused with the exhaust manifold. And now seeing this I might take the time to clean the turbo out.
My turbo has just given up and I found this excellent guide. Although mines an Audi, its very similar. Best guide out there, very clear and easy to understand. Thanks for taking the time to do this and helping us all save money.
Glad to help
Wow, awesome video! Thanks so much for your hard work and thorough explanation. It’s like you were performing surgery :) I have a 2003 VW TDI that needs help so this video will serve me well. Cheers from So Cal :)
Yet again another great video to join all the ones you've done before. As always very informative. Keep up the good work
Thank you for your support, it is always appreciated.
Thank you just watched both of you video's the removal and rebuild of a turbo was very clear and explained well there some videos and written blogs that are making it sound very complicated again thank you very much for this video carry on the good work
Turbo gone on my car! So instead of forking out recondition it myself! Your an absolute legend! Thanks Bro
Make sure to get your turbo from the people in the description, he is a good guy
I can imagine this video getting hundred of thousands of views! there is not many like it on CZcams. Very well done!
Thanks again, you are always one of the first to comment. Fingers crossed these videos will continue to be a success and keep helping people..
BMAC VAGS when i look at the pyramid shape on the hot side of the turbine shaft on my gt1749vb and rotate the shaft it appears to be slightly off center,
is this ho the turbos are balanced or is mine 'shafted'?
also how free should the shaft spin? it turns smoothly but stops almost instantly after trying to spin it
Jakey4seasons Sorry for the delay but I have only just seen this message. It should all be centered and moving freely. It should run for a short while after you have spun it.
The vid was good, better if it had no audio. Either that or learn what things are called and learn the difference between a turbine, impeller and propeller. If your making an educational video you should educate yourself first
I think you meant 'you're' as in you're a twat.
Very nice job, I really appreciate that you shared it!
The video inspired me to tackle the job and is well produced. Thank you
I was just going to get a rebuild kit till i watched this, but i'd rather do it properly, great video, thankyou for the great detail, feel miles better about tackling it now haha
I think he does a great job. These guys on You Tube are better than the high dollar software we buy like Mitchell Pro. I will check these sites out every time. Thank you.
great video - thanks for posting - got this job to do soon on my sharan
Great video. Very informative and gives you the confidence to do this job yourself. Top marks.
Not a mechanic but i was able to repair my turbo on my Astra 2.0 CDI after watching this video.
Dude, you the man!
thanks for all the great vids
Thanks for taking the time to watch the video, have you subscribed?
Thank you so much for your vid and you explain so well. many many thanks.
You are a legend brother, thankyou!
Another amazing video mate subscribed
I use Xylene to wash engine parts. It costs 8 quit a litter and you can reuse it. You just keep washing parts in it until it gets thick. It's very good dissolver and keep it away from paint and try to use it outside
what an excellent video . thank you sir !!!
Fantastic video, mate. Thank you so much!! Will take off my Turbocharger of my 2002 A4 1,9 TDI (AVF Engine) in near future because I get the limp mode at about 110 or 120 km/h. VAGCOM says Error 17965. I google around and found out that it could be the N75 valve or the VGT vanes that got stuck..... I got to check it out.
Anyways, your video helped me a lot. Thank you again!
Great video thanks BMAC VAGS.
Great video
I try to do my bkd turbo clean...can't separate it so fare..but will keep trying
in my case it's complete block for the waisgate. ..nothing wrong with the turbo. .
thanks for sharing
:-)
excellent videos, keep up the good work.
Really good job dude very nice. Not looking forward to this job, but i have to do it....
Thanks for the video - it really does help other to have the confidence to have a go - much appreciated
Excellent video - well done!
Excellent video!
Great video buddy, Keep it up.
Excellent stuff a well put together video.
A fantastic video that helped me a lot. It solved my problem with the limp-mode, cause the turbo was stuck with sood and carbon pieces. Thanks Again !
Glad it helped, thank you for taking the time to watch the video
Next time instead of removing the turbo, remove the downpipe and spray in oven cleaner. While the oven cleaner is in the exhaust side, work the actuator arm up and down. That will help break down the soot. Do that a few times. Then put back together and go for a brisk very rambunctious drive. It helps a ton to remove the soot. Worked for me on 2 separate cars
Fantastic video you really are a Star ....
Thanks your video really helps me .thanks
veryuseful and well presented, thanks
Very useful video. Cheers!
Very informative guide!
Well done thanks for the knowledge
Cheers for help mate:-)
and I did find ignition wire for my amp and sorted it out but unfortunately amp was gone already as I been using it for home use
Best video thanks a lot!
Excellent video thanks.
BMAC VAGS! your videos are great, extremely helpful. I am wondering if you could speak further about other ways of knowing you need a turbo replacement or rebuild other than the smoke you are showing in this example. My 2002 VW Golf TDI goes into limp mode pretty intensely right now and the dealership is saying it is the turbo. Any tips on how to troubleshoot this issue?@
excellent video!
Top video, thanks man
This is one of the best videos for this that I have seen. However I thought you would have a segment showing you prime the turbo. Also, how do you know to just hand tighten the bolts? I have a 2.0Tsi that I am going to have to do this for and I want to make sure I tighten them properly.
grate vids!! thank you
Brilliant vids ! Just got myself a tid and the hints and tips have been great. I now wish I bought a vw ? Keep going love the seafome vid.
Good video!
Really thanks you for this video !!
No problem
Really like the video
great video cheers
always great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great video. Been looking for this for a while! Any idea what would cause the seal to fail between the VNT lever and the exhaust chamber? I have one of these leaking exhaust gases where the actuator lever enters the housing. Do I need to replace the turbo? Thanks!
great job.. what you have done for us.. thanks..
thanks for uploading-very informative
Thanks for taking the time to watch
Good job!
danke , seehr gut erklärt und hat mir geholfen !!!
Very helpful
Very informative
that was interesting shit, thanks bmac !
Good job..!!!!!
I've just done this to my VW Bora. Did you just set the little adjusting screw on the new CHRA to roughly what it was on the old one? [the adjusting screw which stops the lever arm connected to the actuator from moving too far] Thanks.
Super Video
hey, any ideas how does it cost if i ask a garagist to change mine (Golf 4 TDI)?
Thanks and big up from Paris
Legend !
Great videos man keep on going...had the same problem with my skoda octavia 1.9tdi now i know what hapened :)
There is more to come about the turbo and how to maintain it.
Nice mate
Great video very informative thank you.
You didn't mention torque settings or loctite? Is it just a case of feel?
Nice video, i know a little what im getting into. Ordered a melett CHRA. What brand did you use, and does the turbo still work? Too bad you put the actuator heat shield wrong way. It should be facing the exhuast side of turbo as it gets hot.
What about some adjustment on bank? or something? Can i just buy for example a bigger core? I have GT1549V and i want to upgrade it to 1749v(the core)..if i buy the core and just fit it like in your video its enough? Or i should make some special adjustments with special tools?
I´ve blown my Alhambra TDi turbo by over revving when trying to clean some carbon out. Some call it an Italian tune up! I´m never doing that again! At first i thought i´d blown the head gasket as i thought it was steam coming out, and there were drops of clear water coming out the exhaust pipe along with loads of smoke. All the oil has gone out of the sump, and there´s quite a lot on the rear of the engine block. If i´ve only (!!) blown the turbo would it be normal to see some water aswell? If so i´ll maybe get a new turbo, but if it´s the head aswell then it´s had it.
Great videos, good work, many thanks.
The actuator does not control the "boost". It moves the variable geometry vanes... which in turn control the level of pressure, boost if you will, depending on RPM.
Was it whistling before it started to smoke? My turbo whistling on touran which is mk5 golf platform, i think its going to be pita to remove it
I had to swap turbos from one manifold to another, really struggled to get it out of the manifold, In the end I held the turbo with the manifold hanging below and tapped round the outside near the bolt holes and nackered one took a lot of hammering and the decent one just dropped out.
Do watch those tiny m4 bolts as I had one snap omg that was a ball ache.
Hi mate,
I've watched a few of your videos and they're really informative.
Was just wondering what engine this turbo is from? I have a 2.0 TDI 140 (Out of an Audi A3) was wondering if it's the same one. Was thinking of removing mine and having a go myself.
I had mine remapped to 178bhp and now it's started to whistle even without load. I've heard bad things about the standard Turbo on this engine though.
I think my options are either to recondition it myself, or just buy a bigger Turbo, they cost loads anyway for a full new turbo so might as well spend the extra on something that can handle a bit more power so it's less likely to happen again.
Thank you 🎉
You’re welcome 😊
Is it possible to reassemble and not get the actuator arm in the slot and the vanes not move with the arm? And the arm still move freely. I looked to see if it was moving the vanes but couldn't see anything in there.
I have a seat toledo 1.9 tdi 110 HP year 2000; the same engine like golf. I have some oil into the intercooler, the car has not much power like when it was new. I took out the turbo and well...there is no major moves into the turbo, so I do not know if the turbo its gone or dirty... the oil in to intercooler is it normal? thanks
Like your can do manner. Regards
The turbo on my mk5 2.0 tdi 140 keeps cutting out when the turbo is under high load like overtaking etc, I've noticed some oil leakage from it do you think if I buy a new core and rebuild it that should sort it? Cheers
Please how do i get that part Sir cos have the same problem and i am in Cameroon ok.
Hi BMAC VAGS, the link to the website is not in the description?? Would you be able to put it up?? :) Thanks
Great video
@bmacvags in your opinion do you think its worth doing the mr muscle clean from the egr side, from the looks of it doesnt look like the mr muscle will reach the vanes.
well made vid ....thanks
Thank you Paul
I replaced my alternator today, and when I disconnected the hose going to my turbo, I noticed I had a small amount of oil inside. I have the exact same make, model, year, and color car as in your video. 344k miles, I have a small bit of smoke when I first start up, and my turbo works, but if I don't watch my rpms, it cuts off while driving, and it works again if I turn it off and back on again. Does this sound like something that should be cleaned, rather than replaced in your opinion?
Great view! I assume this is not the Garrett turbo removed in the BEW video? Is this a Borg Warner from an ALH engine?
+BMAC VAGS not sure if you could give me some advice or not but I have a 2002 Audi A6 allroad 2.5 and I'm pretty sure the turbo has just failed on it! I was wondering if you could give me an idea of the difficulty rating of replacing it myself?! if you know? cheers in advance
Does anyone know the torque value of the 3 t20/25 bolts that hold the vnt mechanism into the exhaust housing, the part with the vanes. If they are overdone it jams the vanes. I can't find it anywhere. Thx
interesting video. well explained too. but i saw that you didn't mark the screw or its axe to take the fan out ( 4:50 ) as some gyus do, is it not important? . And did you solution work on the car ?
good video
Some help pls, I clean turbo and all work fine,n75 vnt all is good but still get code positive deviation up hill in 4gear at 3000rpm maf sensor is brand new map sensor is working all hose are good intake is clean to egr is clean and positive deviation is still here i dont know what else to do? tnx
