Okay here's the original description lol
I have recently become aware of the absolutely HUGE amount of "rewatch podcasts" that exist in the wild. I was originally introduced to this idea by The Always Sunny Podcast, but more recent podcasts for Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide and Wizards of Waverly Place have also popped up. And what about others like Office Ladies, Fake Doctors Real Friends, Pod Meets World, etc. etc.? Let's take a look at the genre.

The wizards podcast pairing reminds me of that joke from the good place where Michael says “hey, we’re friends! Like…Ross and Phoebe!” And Eleanor is like “weird combination but okay I guess so”
Or community where Abed tells Annie "I didn't know we were REALLY good friends, kinda like Chandler and Pheobe who never really had stories together... sure I'll do it Chandler!"
and i eat it up every single time. i love it
Ross taught Phoebe how to ride a bike tho. That’s a good friendship. They didn’t always get storylines together but you knew there was love there.
And as for Phoebe and Chandler, one of my favorite episodes is when Phoebe helps him get Monica’s engagement ring. They are an underrated duo!
(Obviously not the core pairings of the show though, honestly, justice for Phoebe! She should have gotten more screen time!)

honestly Ross and Phoebe is probably one of the better friend pairing. Cause they are both the more weirder charecters as said by the show.

The Always Sunny podcast is basically just a behind the scenes discussion of each episode. It’s like the bonus material on a dvd. It’s very much appreciated by fans!

I think an important distinction from most these shows is that Sunny is Still going. So they are still playing those characters and they can look back in a comparative lens… then just talk about stuff haha
The always sunny pod is different tho. It isn’t solely relying on nostalgia like a lot of other pods. The cast of Its Always Sunny has continued to stay relevant and in the midst of success. AND the show is STILL going!! Hearing a very popular cast talk about writing the future season of their very popular show. How much closer can you get? Best pod hands down.
i feel like these are sort of a replacement for "director's commentaries" almost since releasing shows on dvd is much of a thing anymore, it fills a similar kind of desire to hear people talk about the show they were on

The It’s Always Sunny podcast is awesome because those guys are pretty tight lipped as far as celebs go. This podcast is the first time they’ve been really open about their lives and creative process. Also…they hardly talk about the episodes lol they always get sidetracked

The main cast are also the creators and main writers of the show so you get some actual insight into the creative process at all levels as opposed to wowwww member when we filmed that yeah I member
I gotta say the Ned's Declassified podcast makes me feel even happier to be a fan of the show. Knowing they had such a great time and are close friends now is just uplifting.

The Always Sunny Podcast is the best rewatch podcast because:
• Glenn, Rob, and Charlie are best friends
• they are also the main actors, writers, creators, show runners, editors, directors etc. so they know the entire behind the scenes
• the runner of the pod, Meg, was a long time fan of the show for years before working on it so she knows what the fans want to see and she adds that love for the show that comes with fan podcasts
• very loose so it feels genuine
• have episodes not related to a specific episode watch (and some that barely tie into the show at all)
• isn’t nostalgia bait but instead is for them to improve later seasons/ see how much the show has changed over its run
• they get on guests that most people wouldn’t (composers, guest stars, choreographers, exec producers, writers)
the fact that they go off the rails so often and talk about things outside of the show is one of the best parts of the podcast to me. A couple of episodes aren't even about the show at all (Rob's altercation, the health exams). It feels like 3 friends just hanging out and shooting the breeze, and it's great.
Whoever edits that podcast is a god also, that part when they're talking about how they're not like their characters and then it starts playing podcast clips of them being exactly like their characters always kills me

Also honestly The Always Sunny cast are all just really fucking funny people which helps the podcast a lot, and they have 15 years+ of close chemistry
When Glenn addresses the fact it's 20 minutes into the podcast and they haven't talked about the It's Always Sunny episode yet, then they proceed to not talk about the episode for another ten minutes.
My favorite episodes
Ned's Declassified was one of the few shows I watched growing up that didn't leave me upset when it ended, I felt it closed on a pretty satisfying note.
It really did, didn't it? Weird to think about a show getting a perfectly consummate ending. There's almost always *some* sort of issue or compromise.
I only got mad when I find out there was suppose to be a highschool version but cookie left

The Always Sunny podcast is truly the best example of a rewatch podcast because they’re not JUST the main actors, they’re the creators and writers and directly involved in so much more of the show making. Outside of the podcast itself, none of the guys are terribly public (except Rob with Welcome to Wrexham) but it’s a great chemistry between them all, amazing guests, and just….such a comfort show.
Everyone was asking for Ned’s Declassified Adulthood guide so we had to make that a podcast too 😊 (it’s us. Not the rewatch pod. But the one that tackles adulthood topics/issues to help you survive!)

The TV show podcast I liked a lot was The Good Place: The Podcast.
It wasn't a rewatch podcast, they recorded it while filming the show and it's basically like an extended commentary track.
Because they were recording at the same time as the show, the guests were way more varied. Actors, writers, but also VFX people explaining how they did certain scenes.
I think this is also why the always sunny podcast is so popular. It features people who are actually involved in making the show, who know where certain ideas came from, who know things that no-one else does, because it never made it in the final script. And those people aren't just one-time guests, they are on the show enough to actually get into specifics.
I forgot about that one! I really enjoyed that as a companion to the show.
Plus Marc Evan Jackson is an incredible host! It’s a really good podcast if you’re looking for an in depth look at the making behind the show.

That podcast was a great supplement to the show. It had really interesting behind the scenes info from people you wouldn't normally hear from like the the set designers, costume designers, and more people in the background you wouldn't think of.
Reminds me of the Chernobyl podcast. It gave a lot of insight to the creation of the show itself as well as the real history of the events the series is based on. Would recommend!
the thing with it’s always sunny is that if they never made a show they probably would have made a podcast together eventually
there are some episodes of the Sunny podcast where they don't even talk about the planned episodes until like half an hour in. Since they're shooting a season right now, they also offer some insight into differences between shooting the episode they rewatched and shooting the current season. Even without the rewatch factor, that podcast could stand on its own I agree lol

I ignored the podcast thinking it'll be cringe until I saw on YT Glenn was wearing a Gojira T shirt, thought it was wierd, I assumed he's a very relaxed man. I now know better lol. They're such grea5 guys.
It’s the only podcast I can actually listen to without getting bored or annoyed, those guys are genuinely entertaining & they aren’t even talking about the episodes most of the time lol
Both Selena and David have pitched a reboot/sequel multiple times for wizards, sadly they’re shot down everytime. Whether kid friendly or adult oriented.

The Office Ladies pod is one of the biggest comedy pods out there, it's insane. I remember rewatching TV shows constantly when I had bad, undiagnosed anxiety and depression. Constantly rewatching things that I knew the outcome for the sheer comfort/nostalgia.
That says something about the world of rewatching is such a popular and mysterious phenomenon...

I think the Ned's Declassified pod has a lot of potential staying power, because the show was about experiences and advice about things to avoid. So, when they are done going through the show it could just be more of them talking about their lives and giving advice on how they might have handled things differently or even times when they handled things well

I have to say, "Drama Queens", the rewatch podcast by the 3 lead actresses of One Tree Hill, is phenomenal. They finally have a platform to talk openly about the abuse they received from their boss at the time, how it permeated the entire industry in the 2000s and how it affected them. Going episode by episode allows for behind the scenes stories, realisations of personal growth and viewing of plotlines through a modern day lens.

Yeah, I saw that he had IASIP Podcast featured prominently, and I came down looking for this. The actors are also the writers, so it’s great hearing about how they came up with the ideas, and behind the scenes stories about what went into making the episode. There’s no way any fan of the show would not enjoy the podcast.
Scrubs feels like older dads looking back at their college days. They’re precious. And a lot of the storylines were incredibly heartfelt and featured people they loved.
I find it so satisfying that they're friends IRL since their characters were besties on a quasi-romantic level
I've been really enjoying Wizards of Waverly Pod recently. Jennifer Stone is so refreshingly normal and levelheaded about everything. I feel like there's this stereotype that teen actors who don't "make it" as adults grow up to be trainwrecks, but Jennifer seems more sensible than some of her peers who were successful as adults.
I really like Office Ladies, because they do a lot of behind the scenes stuff and not just talk about the show. I really like hearing about TV production, so this is interesting to me.
I like the Neds podcast because they use the subject of the episode as a jumping off point to talk about other things. I think Devin, Daniel, and Lindsey are just interesting to listen to.

Yes! I’ve been watching the whole series and I absolutely love it!
I love that Lindsey (played Moze) isn’t afraid to talk or joke about her struggles with mental health or substance abuse issues she’s had because I can relate personally with that. I also have had my own issues with it and it’s refreshing hearing someone just throw out a funny aside or quip about something pretty dark as a way to show that “hey, it happens. Whatever. I’m better now. I never want to go back. Let’s laugh about it.”
It’s not even something she brings up constantly either so it’s not super uncomfortable to watch if you can’t relate.

Yea this is why I watch it, they spend less and less time talking about the show and more about just growing up and life issues as friends.
The behind the scenes and other filming insights are definitely neat, but I like the chemistry they have and how open they are about talking about their lives as people who grew up at the exact same time i did with very different life experiences.
Lindsey hasn’t even watched the episodes they’re supposed to talk about for the last couple podcast episodes lol.
It’s crazy to see childhood stats you’d think are set for life…not watching their own show because they don’t want to pay for Netflix and need someone to share with them!
I do think the rewatch pods are much better than the "adult reboot" series have been, and 1000% better than a reboot of the series with a different cast as well. You just know Friends is going to be done again in the next 5 years like HIMYF.

As far as adult reboots go, iCarly 2021 felt like an insane idea, but it is kinda good
100%. Devon even said while He was still open to a Ned’s Reboot, He was kind of Happier with The Pod and I kind of agree. Feels more genuine and doesn’t taint The Original.
This is kind of off topic but I knew nothing about HIMYF then saw that Hillary Duff is in it? I feel like that’s so odd. They were going to reboot Lizzie McGuire, didn’t for who knows why (I’m too lazy to investigate) so instead they flung Hillary into a different reboot, one that’s honestly probably coming out too soon?? Compared to some of these other shows HIMYM didn’t even end that long ago and the main cast is still beloved. Anyway just really odd choices all around there in my opinion
I think the biggest thing is really just the chemistry between the hosts. I think that's why Kevin and Jenna have had multiple Glee podcasts, because the two of them have such great chemistry and are a lot of fun to listen to.

I love the Ned podcast. I think the reason why I love it so much, is because they DON'T talk about the episode that much. They just talk about life.
I'm honestly enjoying the Wizards of Waverly Pod as someone who grew up watching the show and loving the things they cover in each episode, esp the look BTS and little moments they remember from filming. And gotta say, when it comes to hosts, it's who I imagined it would be, Harper (Jennifer's character) and Jerry (David's) are both iconic figures when it comes to the story (Harper is the best friend of the main character with so much personality she stays in your mind and David is the dad). Not to mention they have great chemistry as hosts and are good friends, so things flow nicely.
It's great if you're into the industry because David is part of Hollywood Dynasty and Jennifer is a big movie buff so thwy actually provide a lot of insight!
i would have loved to see david henrie though. selena is understandable she's doing a different show and prob booked and busy but idk, or even Jake T. Austin.

What I like about the Ned Pod, is while they do go on long tangents about things other than the 11 minute episode, it’s almost like a new survival guide. They’re giving tips, and jeez Louise, Lindsay’s stories are a big “what not to do,” or a “if you did do that, there’s still hope for recovery.”
The thing about the Ned's crew being a little bitter about Zoey 101 getting a reboot makes total sense to me. The appeal of Zoey 101 was honestly the setting. It was so cool to watch these kids at this school by the beach. I don't know how that translates into a reboot. Ned's Declassified has the perfect transition to an adult reboot. They could have done a high school survival guide, college survival guide, adult survival guide. I would be interested in any of those. I'm on their side. Of all the Nickelodeon shows, I think a reboot for them makes the most sense.
I actually love the Ned’s one! They have great chemistry and actually talk about adult stuff now including the show. It’s pretty funny and usually isn’t about the show much as they end up talking about stories along with the making of the show sometimes.
They tend not to even talk about the episode, which is exactly what I want.

My brain hurts
I love Pod Meets World for nostalgic reasons but I really do enjoy hearing Rider, Danielle, and Will talk about their experience as actors. Also they just have great chemistry. It's clear that they've been friends outside of the show for a long time and it does feel like you're just hanging out with your friends. It's awesome.
Ive listened to a bunch of these and Pod Meets World has been my favorite. And I agree, I just like listening to those 3 talk about anything. Plus they do a great job at bringing us behind the scenes, more so than others.
It isn't surprising Christy Carlson Romano is the one behind the current crop of rewatch podcasts. Before that she was doing what I can describe as a 'walk & talk' vlogs about her career with some gems like "How Katy Perry got my record deal" and "I auditioned to Princess Diaries and lost the role to Anne Hathaway".
And she wasn’t bitter about it, just sharing a reality of life that we wouldn’t know about. I appreciate it

I'd say a rewatch podcast is more of a dvd commentary in an age where no ones buys dvds anymore. Disclaimer though, I've not heard any of these podcasts. But if it's basically cast and crew giving interesting trivia and sharing fun stories then I'm all for it.
I've watched a smattering of each of these podcasts and would definitely concur. I say, why not! In a world where truly anyone can make a podcast, it can be really nice to hear nostalgic figures talking about nostalgic times.
A Walt and Jesse from Breaking Bad rewatch podcast would be so good
In all honesty, the gravity falls podcast hosted by Alex Hirsch was the one constant in my life while I was going through a lot of medical stuff. So I hope these podcast creators know how much they’re helping people and that they’re mostly not desperate. ❤

I love the smallville rewatch podcast a lot. They clearly don’t want a reboot and bring on a lot of stars from the show. It’s just reminiscing

Adventure time would be such a fun one, because you have the acotes, you have the music, the art, and comedy; just so much that can be talked about. And the dvd commentaries is already really fun to listen to.

I miss the audio commentaries where the actors are in character and even have an in universe reason for watching the show. Like the Avengers watching Earth's Mightiest Heroes but to them, they were watching "surveillance footage" of their missions!

I really like the wizards of waverly pod. I loved the show as a kid and now I find it really interesting to hear about what went on behind the scenes and what’s going on in their lives now. Also Jennifer and David are really good hosts.
The Neds podcast I've been watching is actually pretty good. It's a lot more about personal stories that tie into the episode they're talking about but it's actually fascinating to see where they've come from a show that was about life lesson in middle school, arguably a much more turbulent and awful time for many kids, even more so than highschool.
The Sopranos rewatch with Michael Imperioli and Steve Schirripa was really enjoyable. But mainly because that's a show that's way more deserving of an episode by episode breakdown. It also felt more genuine because they started it during covid lockdowns when they were bored, not for any career boost
We demand the Neds reboot. Ned's Declassified Workplace Survival Guide. They could mature up the tone a little and have infinite oppurtunities to make fun of training videos.
And if he does back to the same school to teach...old reference, it could be like welcome back, kotter

Pod Meets World and Ned's Declassified Podcast Survival Guide are great. I grew up with Boy Meets World and its awesome to hear their stories and takes on watching each episode. But I didn't watch Ned's until I started listening to the pod and I'm having a blast watching it for the first time. I wish I had watched it when it originally aired because I would have looooved it.
I never really knew about these types of Podcast until I stumbled across Pod Meets World when the first episode was dropped and I love it. Then somehow the Ned's one popped up on my CZcams feed and I kind of enjoy it. I love Pod Meets World because they actually go through the episode they watched but also talk about other stuff
I’ve listened to some of the One Tree Hill rewatch podcast, and it’s nice (and also pretty sad honestly) to listen to because the actresses were watching all of the episodes for the first time because of the bad memories that are attached to it due to the show’s creator. I’m glad actors who were kids or just super young and inexperienced can tell their stories on podcasts like this.
Talking Sopranos is a good rewatch podcast I think bc Sopranos is a show with a lot of unexplained symbolism and unanswered questions and the actors sometimes dissect things and reveal what the creator was thinking with a certain scene, therefore answering said questions
i think it's interesting that there aren't many animated series rewatch podcasts since cartoons are a prime source of nostalgia. maybe it's because the voice actors aren't people you can recognize right off the bat unless you're still really into the medium, but i mean they literally have voices meant for podcasts and i feel like it'd be easier to get the stars and crew, even the creators, for some of them. it would at least be a semi new perspective from the usual sitcom rewatches that are dominating
Yess I was thinking the same thing while watching! The only shows I'd eat up a rewatch podcast of are animated. Loved Rob Paulsen's podcast, it's the closest thing I got
Not that they really need the support, but Dante Basco and Janet Varney have an avatar rewatch podcast. I've liked the episodes I've listened to. I'm in the early episodes, so they haven't quite found their footing yet, but it's been interesting to hear the background of how the show was made
I've only listened to Office Ladies and the Parks and Rec podcasts (and Fly on the Wall with Dana Carvey and David Spade all about SNL - but they don't go episode-by-episode), and IMO they're just legitimately enjoyable, interesting, and informative podcasts. The Office Ladies and Parks and Rec guys divulge all kinds of behind-the-scenes stuff that's just really cool to learn about. And the guests are generally the writers/directors/stars of the shows. Simply as a *concept*, I guess it's kinda weird in a way, but just as a fun podcast to listen to, I think both of them are cool.
For the Office Ladies, I think a lot of people had been urging them to run with the idea, and they agreed that it would be fun. Also, they're actually best friends in real life, so it's kinda just an excuse for them to hang out and share memories and stuff. Quite similarly to what you said about the Neds podcast - the Office Ladies definitely go scene-by-scene with each episode, but they also randomly talk about their lives and stuff outside of the show, in much the same way.
Though I do think this concept was definitely popularized by them, and everything that came after is basically just copying them, so that's kinda "cheap," I guess.
It really depends on the individual podcast - Angela and Jenna are fun to listen to and have pretty good memories, so it's fun to listen to them. That might not be the case with some other podcast, especially if the show itself wasn't something as loved and long-running as the Office. I think it makes sense for Parks and Rec, and Always Sunny - maybe not such a good idea for other shows.

i love the always sunny podcast because they rarely talk about the episode they are supposed to rewatching, and its just the writers making jokes and sometimes coming up with possible ideas for future episodes

Highly reccomend the Boy Meets World Rewatch, Pod Meets World. They are very honest about their experiences, but you can tell they also look back at that time in their life fondly. They manage to keep it lighthearted most of the time while occasionally touching on more serious subjects. The show has a ton of heart and they get a lot of great guests om too.
To me this is the only rewatch podcast worth listening to atm (though I grew up on the BMW reruns so maybe part of it is nostalgia for me too)

I was waiting for him to mention Pod Meets World! I love how Danielle, Will and Ryder are still such close friends and they want to dig deep into their childhoods through the eyes of BMW. It’s the only rewatch podcast I’ve ever listened to.

as someone who hyperfixates frequently i love rewatch podcasts. ive watched almost every episode of the sunny podcast, and i sometimes find myself listening to the new girls and glee podcasts
The Breaking Bad official podcast was INCREDIBLE. Not quite like these rewatches, but they talked about everything behind the scenes and the WHY on so many shots and story beats, as the episodes came out. It had Vince Gilligan on almost every ep, hosted by head editor (so sorry I don’t have her name handy) and the cast was on all the time.
SO GOOD and you could listen to it now as a podcast like this.
I hate how no one is talking about ‘The Psychologists Are In’ because it really is fantastic. The focus tends to be more on how the show was made, so it really gives you insight into the process of making a tv show. They go from interviewing the creator, who share his inspirations fox the show, to talking with James aka Shawn, who helped create his character, and how the hosts, Maggie and Tim, were involved in crafting their characters and the show as a whole. I highly recommend it because I’m learning so much as a screenwriter and comic writer. Great video as always, I love how you can present both sides and still keep the good vibes going!

Another point that makes the Always Sunny Podcast great is that all the people involved are actually at the height of their respective fames.
That is subjective, as the “height” of anyone’s fame can be placed differently depending on who is looking at it. The Always Sunny pod is milking tf out of their show by podcasting old eps and clips. It’s hella smart and kudos to them for maximizing on the potential revenue, but it can cause people to start to dislike the show more, due to overexposure
@@puffdaddy69 if anything it's reminding people the show still exists. since they go so long between show seasons, and bc the seasons are fairly short, I doubt many people can feel iasip's "overexposed." Plus the podcast skip weeks quite often since the three of them are promoting/filming other things, so it's not like there's a sudden onslaught of content. They just went over a month without releasing a podcast because they were filming the new season and then Charlie was off promoting two movies.
A rewatch podcast ive been liking has been Talkville which involves the two lead actors from smallvile: tom welling (clark kent) and michael rosenbaum (lex luthor) doing the basic blow by blow episode breakdowns and they tend to keep it pretty honest with rosenbaum being probably the most critical of what an episode may do wrong as much as he loves it and loved working on it. Helps that since that this is a show based on an ongoing property theres not much to worry about them going "we should reboot" but I also think that at least for them they've done well enough for themselves that the podcast is much more about seeing how they grew from where they started and have a chill time.
The Twilight Saga podcast was the first one I learned about. It was so fun seeing most of the cast together again and talking about their bonds with each other.

The Always Sunny Podcast is something truly special, they're just 3 hilarious buddies talking a little about the show and more often about life and other random funny stuff, the chemistry of Rob, Glenn and Charlie is S tier, Megan is a lovely addition as well. I will never get bored of those people and their podcast is something I get excited about and look forward to.
As well, how they made this podcast for the last year consistently whilst Charlie was writing, directing and starring in his own movie, Rob was running a football club in Wales and being in Wales for nearly all their games and Glenn was making the Blackberry movie in Canada whilst also being a prolific serial killer in his down time

The Neds Podcast isn’t really a rewatch podcast, they just use the episode subject as a jumping off point to talk about random and interesting stuff from their lives.
I was kind of confused by the WoWP podcast being hosted by Jennifer Stone and that guy who played the dad, but now that I know there's this PodCo company behind it, it makes sense. Probably PodCo came up with the idea for the podcast, and contacted multiple people from the show to see if they would be interested in participating, and those just happen to be the people who said yes.
Jennifer and David are also friends outside of the show and have kept the most in contact! So that's why they agreed to do it together, when you know that it doesn't feel as random.
This is what I thought too. Especially with the Evens stevens pod, I feel like the guy who plays beans is such a random addition lol. Would have loved Twitty as a main host
I’ve loved the Neds declassified podcast. It’s good to see Nick kids who had good times on their show and none of Dan’s terribleness behind it. Also it’s cool how the show focused on kids going through tips and navigating life then and now

I've started 5 or 6 rewatch podcasts, but there's only one that I continued with after a few episodes. All the rest, in my opinion, could've just been an hour or two long reunion and I would have been satisfied.

@Douwe Somers Drama Queens, the One Tree Hill rewatch pod! It's the three main women from the show and a lot of it is basically them reliving the good times, talking about the production of the show, and talking through some of the terrible stuff they dealt with behind the scenes. It's really fascinating and tbh I just love that show and the actresses.
The always sunny one is neat, it's less a rewatch pod and more the group hanging out and realizing things they've forgot about over the years. Heck since they announced the new season it looks like they're bringing back stuff from old seasons they never would have remembered without doing the podcast

Same. I've kept up with The Office Ladies, and that's about it. And truthfully it just comes down to the fact that I don't have time to keep up with all of them. It's great that so many have an audience, but many of them seem cash-grabby and just aren't super interesting to keep me coming back each week.
I like the Wizards pod because they talk about issues with disney, personal struggles. It just feels real and that's refreshing.
I am all for a Big Time Rush podcast hosted by the man that played Gustavo!! It’s bound to be a great podcast. It’s an underrated show that has underrated music. Also, it’s made by the same creators of Ned’s declassified so that’s cool lol
Neds podcast is one of my favorites I watch every week. Seeing the cast together and their chemistry is so nice to see. And I love knowing behind the scenes info on the show.

i love the its always sunny pod, i learned so much i didnt know about the show, saw bloopers i had never seen before and got to see some of my favorite characters on the show as themselves. highly recommend if you enjoy the show
I think the West Wing Weekly is the perfect combination of both a fan and cast run podcast. One host has only seen half the show once, so half the show is him experiencing it for the first time, which is fun to listen to, and the other dude was on the show, and is friends with the creator, so they get the special guests that the fan podcasts can’t usually get. It works really well and is quite entertaining. And I think that the best way to enjoy rewatch podcasts is watch the episodes, listen to the podcast. And once it ends, Stranger Things will get a podcast hosted by Caleb and Gaten
the always sunny podcast is a literal god send for any fans of the show for a lot of reasons but for me personally, it’s really interesting when they dive into the creative process behind the show because all 3 of them are the writers for the show. that kind of insight is interesting to me but the fact they’re best friends and have a silly goose time on the pod is awesome
The West Wing Weekly podcast started in 2015, so it was one of the early ones and honestly set the bar way too high for rewatch pods. It was run by a fan and a cast member so you got a really interesting perspective. They dove super deep into every episode, got some amazing guests. Highly recommend.
Back in the day, I was excited at the prospect of a high school Ned's. I'd love an adult one, but also, I like their podcast. They kinda do it already. In the end, they come up with a tip that they try to keep relevant to the episode/ whatever else topic came up.
The High School Ned's was planned and pretty sure a pilot was even filmed, unfortunately got canned for whatever reason.
“Talkville” with Michael Rosenbaum and Tom Welling where they rewatch the 2001 superman origin series “Smallville” is really good. They do talk about the show the whole time but they have some really fun segments like taking fan calls and also having a 3rd guy, one of the podcast engineers, sit in with them each episode and sort of acts as the outsider looking in as he is a first time viewer of “Smallville.” He also gets to point out 3 scenes out of each episode he designated as his favorite scene and Michael and Tom have to guess which one it is out of the three. It’s honestly surpassed the “It’s Always sunny podcast” as my favorite rewatch podcast only because I’ve been a fan of “Smallville” longer than I have been a fan of “It’s always Sunny.” I’m a massive fan of both shows tho.

I don’t really watch a lot of rewatch podcasts, but one that I am religiously dedicated to is Twin Peaks Unwrapped, which is fan-hosted.
They do such a good job not only going the beats of each episode, but providing excruciatingly detailed backstories, details, and behind-the-scenes coverage. Stuff like, “This scene was originally going to be written like this, but so-and-so suggested something else”, “this actor was casted due to x reason”, stuff like that. It really makes the podcast more lively and enriching, hearing these superfans care so much about the project.
I also really like their format, because one of the hosts watched the show when it first aired (1990) whereas the other host is usually just two-three episodes ahead of the listener, so it adds a nice balance of expertise/rewatching and novel viewing.
Not to mention, once they actually wrap up the show, they have a lot of IP stuff to cover as well: the movie, the fan theories, the third season, interviews with cast and crew.
It’s such a great podcast for any Twin Peaks/David Lynch/Mark Frost lover out there, I can’t recommend it enough!
Talkville was the first rewatch podcast I watched and I loooooove it. They go through the episode thoroughly and give a lot of behind the scenes detail, but they weren’t quite so young. They mostly go in depth about acting choices and direction since they’re both directors now. They’re also the two lead actors, with one producer who’s on his first watch. I’m only interested in this because I’m personally rewatching the show and I’m an actor so it’s valuable to me.
Same. I've never really been into podcasts, I've listened to some episodes of some podcasts every now and then but Talkville just hooked me. The only podcast I watch complete episodes of and wait eagerly for a new episode every week lol Michael Rosenbaun is hilarious.

It’s kinda like how Scott said about them having good chemistry and being good hosts, and Michael has been hosting a podcast for awhile so he’s got the structure down and he’s already unwavering in his opinion. I love that they are actually critical of the cheesy aspects while still celebrating the show
@@annagreen9688 Yes, there's also a good contrasts because Tom is usually more positive and forgiving while Michael is more critical and objective, while Ryan is a fresh pair of eyes who's never seen the show before. Their little sections also keep it interesting.

I enjoy the podcast too but it is literally the definition of a rewatch podcast. Do they talk about other things yes, do they have episodes that not focused on specific episodes yes. But is it a rewatch podcast format 100% majority of the episodes they spend talking about the specific episodes they are on and what it was like working on that episode.

I think this is just a natural extension of the convention panels that a lot of these celebs do, too. I like the ones where, as you pointed out with Neds Guide pod, the cast look like they are actually friends in real life. Seems more organic.

The Ned’s one is the only one I follow and I think it could easily just become a normal podcast whenever there through watching the tv show. You get the hook where they talk about the episode but usually the subject of the episode they cover will launch a conversation about their real life experiences with those subjects. Though there have been a few where they stick pretty close to the episode/the making of the episode. They even give their own “tips” at the end regarding the subject.

I was prepared to come in here with steam coming out of my gosh darn ears if I heard even one word of negativity about the It’s Always Sunny Podcast. It’s absolutely worth listening to, and provides just a remarkable amount of entertainment. Rob’s (Mac) story about nearly getting into a fistfight in line for fast food while getting pumped up listening to the In The Heights soundtrack with his kids is legendary. And the episodes where Glenn (Dennis) is off filming a movie, so they use the Dennis doll as a fill in and don’t acknowledge it had me dying.
At the end of the day for me in regards to rewatch podcasts… they aren’t harmful in any way, and they help people get through their days. There are so many worse things you could spend your time making, or listening to.
The Always Sunny podcast really does stand out. Arguably, out of all the "rewatch podcasts", it's the only one that still has big stars and super famous folk on it, I mean Charlie Day is huge at the moment. They get the fans involved a lot which is always hilarious. The biggest thing that stands out however is that the actual characters on the show are exaggerated versions of the actors, so listening to the podcast gives you a level of insight that the other podcasts in the genre don't quite have. It really feels like something special at times.
The Neds Podcast is interesting in that it merges aspects of a rewatch podcast and a random conversational podcast that's trying to incorporate (at least at the end of the episodes) things learnt from what was talked about in the episode, kind of like an episode of the show itself.

Gilmore Guys is excellent. One of the host is a mega fan and the other is watching it for the first time. They do a lot of fun segments and have bigger more theatrical live episodes. It feels more fun and honest than other rewatch pods because them and their guests can be critical of the show, which I don’t often see in other rewatch pods. Highly recommend!
Yeah Gilmore Guys is pretty much the only rewatch pod I was able to get through, mostly because I ended up listening for the hosts/regular guests as much as (if not more than) the show recap stuff. I also loved that it ended up being long chatty episodes by like the 4th season onwards - it was like hanging out with friends. That's my preferred podcast vibe.
PodMeetsWorld is such a well done rewatch podcast because they ACTUALLY talk about the episode! Fully! In depth! Compared to Wizards of Waverly Pod, which tends to pivot into chitchat more than actual recaps, I feel like I get so much more out of PodMeetsWorld. They also did a group therapy session recently which was such an interesting twist and it was so nice to have them emphasize the importance of therapy when looking back on experiences someone has had as a child now that they look back with adult eyes.
I need to know if the Wizards of Waverly Place dad talks about how his nipple was poking through his shirt in that one scene. It's plagued my mind since I was a kid
