The great Qawwal, Murli sings a Naat recorded live at Firangi Mahal, Lucknow. The 'takrar' or repetition of a phrase, is unmatchable! A rare treat for Qawwali lovers!
Thank you so much. We even do not know their real names. Their era ? Just because they stayed closer to the tradition of Qawwali instead of going for dollars. I wish some gentlemen who had the honor to hear them in person could share their memories.
Every year Murli Quawwal and his team were our guest in Dhaka for ten days during the Rajab Urs. This was from 1950s to 1970. I never expected to find him in CZcams but took a chance and found him. As a person he was very quiet and courteous. And enjoyed the Kashmiri Chai with Dhaka cheese and 'bakarkjani roti'
Dear Farzana you might the daughter or grand daugher of mr Raza e Karim ? in that case we were grateful to your father for calling Murli to Dhaka...I remember going to your house for the qawali ...hope you are all well and happy in Dhaka.. Alauddin Jamal ...the qawali was posted by my brother Mahmood
See the dilapidated wall, cracking plaster, the old bed sheet and stool, the dress of qawwals and gloom lurking in the mehfil. Is it simplicity or poverty? Poverty of artists of his stature or poverty of we the audience to understand the richness behind such simplicity? Just compare it with the grandeur, pomp and glitter of dance and music shows.
Dear Amir, I just saw your comments. Mr. Reza-e-Karim was my uncle. My father's (Asadul Karim) older brother. Murli's last visit to Dhaka was in 1971 just before the troubles and they were stuck for 6 months in Dhaka at my Chacha's house. The old house is still there, the Zikers are performed every Thursday and on every 11th. of the Hijri month. Month of Rajab is the time to be there. We still have the Qawwali - but it is not the same as Murli's. Very nostalgic. I live in Stockholm, Sweden since 1981. But I visit Toronto often and meet up with Amina. Are you her brother? Besides Alauddin and Baqi? Did you manage to make a DVD of Murli's work? Is Murli alive? If so, I would like to trace him and visit him when I am next in Delhi. Kind regards, F
Qibla is the direction of kaba. The main verse goes "Qibla-e-Dil Kaba-e-Jaan, Ya rasoolallah tu hi" Which means, "Qibla of my heart, kaba of my life, oh prophet only you
