  • The FIRSTS of ILOILO
Perhaps no other province in the Philippines can claim to have chalked up a record of having many “firsts” as the province of Iloilo. This list, which is by no means complete, includes some of the vignettes of history that make for the grandeur and glory that is Iloilo. By making this compilation, we hope to bring the reader a state of exquisite splendor as we relive the glorious past through the great events and great achievements of notable men and women and thus though briefly, comes before the chamber for an eventful encounter with history.

Fyi. MARAGTAS has been declared by historians more than 2 decades ago to be a hoax. Pls do not continue perpetuating that hoax. Almanaque is pronounced "ahl-ma-na-keh". It is Spanish for almanac. Fyi. An Ilonggo from Molo of the Marcella family (I think) has been one of the first serving senators in Cuba . Overall this is a great video.

The first branch of SM department store outside Metro Manila is SM Delgado (Iloilo City). Opened in May 1979. SM Delgado (Iloilo City) is the 4th SM Department Store built by Mr.Henry Sy Sr. after SM Manila, Makati and Cubao. SM Supermarket was conceptualized and opened its store at SM Delgado in 1985. I remember in the 80s, SM
shopping bags were printed with Manila-Makati-Cubao-Iloilo.

I went to INHS, my great Lolo, my father, my bros/sis went there. We hear creepy sounds in that old building. They said the Japanese made it their camp and dead soldiers died there. Nevertheless it's the school that produce many successful graduates and I benefited from all the scholarships that school received.
By the way my late Tatay was in his 90's. I stopby in 2016 and took him there I can just imagine what's in his head when he was in that school in the 1930's.

Tatuwa ako sa alam mo ng mga Ilonggo. Marcos took everything belonging to the Ilonggos and transported them to his Batak. Meralco was taken for two (2) dollars from Lopez. He destroyed the Philippine Sugar industry by refusing to renegotiated Laurel-Langley Agreement, and majority of that is in Negros. Imposing martial law and becoming a dictator, was his survival plan-with the perks of course of absolute power and unlimited wealth.

ALMANAQUE should be pronounced 'al ma na keh' not 'al ma nak'. Spanish is always syllabicated. Also, the so called Maragtas had already been proven a historical fraud so No. 1 should not have been there. Suma tutal, Iloilo's Firsts is quite impressive considering the research that went with it. Btw before Iloilo was known as Iloilo it was known as Provincia de Ogtong (Oton) since the Spaniards first landed in Oton.

The shipping route changes after the rise of Australia that's why Manila, Cebu and Davao become the transit hub of shipping company where goods are dropped and pick-up during transit. International shipping is good for the economy. But Iloilo has fallback if our economy become sour due to its rich agriculture while Cebu's rocky terrain is bad for agriculture.

Geography wise Cebu is situated at the center of visayas, and business people preferred Cebu because of the accessibility to Samar -leyte, part of Negros and Mindanao, , and also politics ruined the opportunity that belongs to Iloilo, and of course jealousy from the previous leaders. At isa pa yung mga offers ng Cebu government sa mga business people kagaya ng 10years na hindi mag bigay ng tax ang mga ito sa government para lang lumipat ang mga ito sa Cebu, Ai pasencia na po trying hard lang ako mag English. At correction lang po, Iloilo city was once claimed by the queen of Spain as her City. Because Iloilo city ay ang huling city na na nanatiling loyal sa Spain. Kaya ang bansag ay "QUEEN'S City of the south",
Not Queen city of the south.
