  • He was the most dominant player for several years, delighted the badminton fans around the world with his smooth and efficient playing style and exasperated his opponents with his incredible defense. But after a fatal accident in 2020 after the Malysia Masters Japans Superstar needed a long time to come back and could only win one tournament since then.
    Still many the fans around the world hope that he will get back to his old strength but lately Momota also said he has a hard time finding motivation and joy in badminton. That's why I tried to follow Momotas tournament run at the German Open 2023 as close as possible.
    Sorry for bad audio or picture quality at some times but I had a very tough time schedule at the event, tried to squeeze in a couple of behind the scenes things for the vlog but didn't have the time to wait or look for the perfect light or audio background. I still hope you guys enjoy it, and stay tuned for the next and final part of my German Open experience!

    Great video and insight behind the scenes. I agree with your assessment - Momota is going in the right direction now, despite his semi final loss here. Of course, we now know just how good Li Shi Feng is after his All England win.

    Thanks for covering the German Open at this level for us! It's super interesting because posting your video after both the German Open and All England, we can see that Momota did decent in this event, but not as well in the AE. Conversely, Lee Zii Jia was our early but made it to semi finals in the AE and in interviews, he was proud of his direction.
    Li Shi Feng ended up winning the AE so I wonder if he's the next great men's singles hope for China.
    As for your new favorite, ASY has been playing stellar and is one of the highest consistent women's singles players currently on tour, having won the AE!
    Hopefully you have a chance to do more player profiles as this was a very interesting and enjoyable segment on your channel.

      and yes momotas lost first round in Birmingham butI watched his match at AE and I think he also played on a very high level, a lot better then the tournaments last year in my opinion. But in the end he had a tough opponent that has also proven lately that he is one of the best in the world so I think no shame to loose that match and still a step in the right direction

    Hi Tobias, often when I play badminton my shots are really inconsistent and sometimes I play one really good rally but then the next one I make a silly error and hit the shuttle out of the court. Is there any way to improve consistency and are there any off court exercises I can do to improve this? Also, I sometimes struggle with choosing shots so please can you make a video about shot selection?

    This playing style of Kento Momota requires excellent feeling of the shuttle and the court. I can see Momota just can save the shuttle from a really low position and therefore, his lift would be a perfect chance for a towering smash. I hope that Momota can learn something from Lindan playing style so that he can really challenge the titles.

    Momota MUST save his stamina before the match.
    He was not warming up but doing a exhausting workout to flex his motivation but at this level of competition his energy need to be conserved.

    everyone says that. momota had a bad accident on the highway in kuala lumpur, very traumatic, and he didnt come back from it. except that isnt what happened
    he was indeed injured in a very serious car accident that resulted in the death of the driver and injuries to the passengers. momota was banged up pretty badly and had to undergo eye surgery on one eye. it was a bad bounce, but that isnt what happened to kento momota
    it's what happened a year later when he tested positive for covid en route to thailand for the thailand open in jan 2021. it was a long time ago but maybe you remember. most of the world was going along with a hysterical panic reaction to a new virus that caused symptoms clinically indistinguishable from the flu. when you tested positive it meant your were 'infected' even if you had no symptoms, and you had to quarantine for the good of others until you were no longer infected. so kento quarantined even though he had no symptoms because that's how you were supposed to bow to the social covid panic
    japan coaches, agreeing with the mass psychosis that had gone viral, decided to withdraw the entire team from the thailand open. just in case, because you never know. which kento saw as happening all because of him
    then, according to momota (he gave an in-depth interview about this which seems to have since been removed from the internet-- if you find it, please post a link in reply), his doctors also told him he would 'recover' faster if he didnt exercise, so it was advised that he not-exercise while in quarantine. was kento sick? no. so what was he recovering from? infection. did this infection make him sick? no. so what was he recovering from? already told you, stop arguing
    ok, dunno about you, but if i miss three days of cardio, it takes me 6-8 weeks to recover full fitness. i dont even know what 2 weeks of couch potato looks like and i dont wanna know. he talked about this with great pain, the way he says he agreed not to exercise, and he said, "i almost lost my spirit'
    not almost. kento. you lost your spirit then and there. that is what happened to you. not a car accident, you happened to you. your whole approach to the game was to be mentally quieter than your opponents and to play pure silence into the noise. in this way you won against the fastest and most powerful opponents and looked like you were doing nothing
    then you gave in to the noise. you let in that insane hysteria. you said yes to that sick Thing, which was about nothing but laziness, a rebellion against doing what you knew was right, which is our only calling, and you became a mere mortal
    prithee it werent so, but all that's left is the sad twilight of a god. and what a god he was

    • @Seija729
      @Seija729 Před rokem

      Agree it’s not just the car crash that caused his downfall, because in 2021 he was still able to take Axelsen to 3 sets. However I don’t know if it’s Covid either. Even if he took 2 weeks break it wouldn’t take longer than a few months at most to regain his form. You are over grossly exaggerating saying it would take you 6-8 weeks to recover from 3 days of no cardio lmao.

    • @rb-ex
      @rb-ex Před rokem

      @@Seija729 you missed the point. you believe he could recover physically after 2 weeks of couch potato and it's a big exaggeration for an athlete to say it takes him 6-8 weeks to recover full fitness from 3 days of no cardio. first of all, we are talking about top cardio condition, not the 85% that many athletes might be happy with. that kind of conditioning, especially the last 15%, comes slowly through disciplined practice and goes away exceedingly fast. but that's a side point. of course kento could eventually recover his physical fitness after doing no exercise at all for two weeks. the point is the choice to do 2 weeks of couch potato when he's the world no1 meant that he turned away from the light and believed the Lie. it was a sick act of unspeakable self-violence. you can call that a gross exaggeration or whatever you want, but it is what it is and the results speak for themselves
