    It is a well-known, undisputed fact that the strength of a samurai's sword technique is directly proportional to the number of syllables in its name.

    2:50 If I'm honest, one of my favorite parts of taking Aikido was wearing the hakama. Sensei told us the hakama could be used to hide your feet during a fight by squatting slightly...just enough for the hakama to cover the feet. This can be used to confuse your attacker because it's harder for them to tell what foot you have your weight on.

    Thank you for you dedication to sharing Japanese traditions. I have a question you might have the answer to. Why did the Samurai wear gray bearded mask with their helmets in battle ? Was it to look for mercy, giving them an edge or bring the fear of their expertise into an opponent?

    • @thedragonofechigo7878
      @thedragonofechigo7878 Před 2 lety +4

    • @markfergerson2145
      @markfergerson2145 Před 2 lety +4

      There are many opinions from historians about the purposes of the masks. Metatron recently did a video explaining some of those opinions.
      As we saw, samurai would meditate before battle to obtain and maintain calm during battle. One opinion holds that the expressions on the masks were intended to break an opponent's calm by inspiring different emotions, making them easier to defeat. Considering the many different mask designs ranging from gray-bearded men to demonic faces, this makes sense to me.
