Every scene in this movie feels like a poem...
I have the theory, that their monolouges ARE poems.
Notice how all of the characters (well, most) die at the end of their stories?
I always imagined their monolouge is like a death poem, as if they were telling their stories in the afterlife.
Because the scenes are poems. This movie hearkens back to how movies used to be made. Which today is alien. Today it's either "Superhero/comic book" or....well..."chick flick".
This is traditional Hollywood on steroids.
Poetry tries to be Sin City, and fails, like a drunk stumbling home, falling off a bridge, and being washed out to sea.

A detail I really like is that when Hartigan notices Nancy and they talk it's like color and light enters the scene. A nice way of showing without saying that Nancy is the light of Hartigan's life, and the one who brings color into his black/white/grey life.

Thank you Bruce. There are rumours about his attitude and behavior way before his health issues, but he was definitely captivating when he wanted to be. Hartigan is my personal favourite of his performances.
I don’t know if rumors but years ago my brother played drums and Bruce sang and played a harmonica at a charity event. My brother said he was one of the nicest guys to talk too.

The best moment is when Hartigan turns to the young roark. The image turns black and white and Nancy in the background is an amazing dance. in addition, there is also great music. The fact that Hartigan realized it was trap helps at this point. Perfect scene

I was just about to comment on 1:28 to 1:33. The slow turn around, the music getting louder, the fade to grayscale, and the zoom-in all at once.
Do Ma That transition always gives me goosebumps. I just wish Sin City 2 was just as good as this movie. I would have loved to see more of the graphic novel portrayed in this style.

1:25 to 1:34 is my favorite sequence in the whole movie. And I liked the whole movie.
It’s an iconic shot for sure, the way Hardigan turns around, the tilt of his head, Nancy in the background, and the realisation he’s been played for a fool, I also like the shot where Marv is in the rain walking towards the giant statue, I think it’s really well shot.

She became picky on her roles as she got tired of being casted as just an eye candy character. Her role as Sue Storm in the Fantastic 4 sequel is one of the examples. She was told constantly by the director to look beautiful while crying.

Can you imagine what would have happened if Nancy merely asked Marv for help? Holy hell. Marv would have HAPPILY obliged. Marv gets to pile up bodies without feeling bad. That was always his issue -- he wanted to kill lots of people (hair trigger temper), but he would feel bad about it, so he didn't kill too many people. But here? All the blood without the complications. Marv would have a field day.
How would she have known where to find him or that he wanted to help her. She was very fearful of trusting people bc of what had been done to her. She was just cautious and slow to trust
@@jennpark8559 Did you even see the movie? Nancy and Marv had pretty good relationship (although platonic from what I can tell). In fact, Marv once asked Nancy for help in his scenario, and they were both very comfortable with each other.
By asking for help from Marv, it’s likely that Nancy and Hartigan could have gotten help from Dwight as well. That’s the 3 main badasses of the sin city comics all against the rouke family (each guy had a vendetta against one member of that family or gangsters/hit men employed by them). A crossover between the 3 would have been entertaining to say the least.
@@geeebuttersnap2433 Marv ain't the type to ask for help, and I don't think he even knew who Dwight was. Hartigan didn't know who Dwight was either. Dwight knew who Marv was though.
All the Sin City graphic novels had multiple timelines. That was a great thing about them. You're reading A Dame to Kill For and there's a panel with Wendy and Marv driving past from A Hard Goodbye. It leaves you wanting to piece together everything chronologically.
I expect that Marv was convinced that no woman in Sin City wanted his help at all until Goldie showed up.
