Still watching this 7 years later. Need more
agreed
Love the video.. I have had 3 wheelers since 1983 I started riding a yamaha 200 when I was 7! Have a 350X since 1994. People either love or hate 3 wheels. So much more fun than a 4 wheeler IMO
I just bought my first trike last week 86 atc 250r always wanted one since I was a kid
You need to set up a 1985 ATC 200x like that.
I wish I still owned my 200x and 350x such great bikes I miss them so much
I bought a 1986 350X brand new. The first things to go were the back tires. Replacing them with a square profile made it handle like a dream. I cut the "edges" off of the bottom of the rear fender to keep mud from building up and it also gave it a sleeker look. I welded another set of footpegs to the originals. Thumb throttle was replaced with a twist grip for all day comfort and better throttle control in big bumps and rough trail off camber situations. I swapped out the front sprocket for one, if I remember correctly, two teeth bigger. That made first sometimes a bit tall for the trail but flat out easily close to 75 mph. I had it for 10 years and it never let me down whether driven in massive sand dunes in blazing heat or in the dead of winter sliding on the snow. Four wheelers, I thought, were never as nimble and fun as my X.
We always seem to get in trouble with a twist throttle.
putting a twist throttle on a 3 wheeler is asking to die.
Yah I've got a twist on my 85 250r and it's about got me in trouble a few times..but I don't jump it..really thinking about getting rid of it and going back to a thumb style
@@Trumplican agreed. No idea why anyone would put a twist on a 3 wheeler or quad.
Twist throttle on a trike😳
Flirting with disaster right there. When I bought my 350x it had one and was the first thing to go
Came so close to Ebaying my 350X. Wrote the ad five times and couldnt do it. Team ATC forever. Did mine 10.5:1 with Webb Stage 1 cam, full Xcellerater pipe and jetted it. Any more power and I'll be fusing vertebrae. Perfect with tall tires, climbed every hill in Hatfield/McCoys. Kept up with 4X4 quads all day long like a billygoat. Quads have one too many tires. Your machine is very sweet.
+bagginit45 I hope we played a role in helping convince you to keep your machine. We love the 350X
Wow that little trike looks like such fun on the track!
Im building an MX ATC 350X right now! this video has some great info!👍👍❤
Glad we could help. Looking forward to watching your build
Great video. Thanks for posting. The job they did on the suspension is amazing!
Oh No, I am feeling a three wheeler comeback!
David Norris
I’ve got one and I hope they do come back
I have my 1985 250r and my first 1980 110. I had most of the original parts documents,so "restoring" them in 2007/2008 made things come out very well.
Trouble is, the are way to nice to ride! Lol
Im looking forward to buying or building a TPC 450r later this year.
This was just too too cool! I watched the stock review & this was the icing on the cake! I seen some new performance parts I didn't know were available(& I thought I knew of most!) I felt as tho I was watching latest machine being tested with all the latest goodies! Please keep it up!
That turned out great. Impressive performance from the old iron.
Dear ATVonDemand thank you. To all the things you do. You answer so many questions and give so much help. I bought a mighty 350x off my uncle and I was trying to get information, parts, just plain HELP!!! and it was as almost as if you could hear my cries and answered me with not just a classics test but a fully built X. I have watched both videos at least 50 times and cant wait for the 250r. How much horsepower did the 350x motor make from CT racing? Thinking of following this build exactly. THANK YOU, hope you guys realize what you do for us fans with all of your videos, testing, and reviews. Thank you to everyone at ATVonDemand
This is perhaps the most positive comment we have received ever. Thanks much for the kind words and encouragement. According to CT, this kit should produce somewhere around 42HP. We feel it delivers a great balance of horsepower and fast throttle response. Keep us posted on your project. Good luck and thanks again.
Hell yea three wheelers rule! I was dying for a Big Red when I was young but ALL Honda's ruled. 200x was a bad ass ride when I was young. This would've been mind numbing, to say the least!
What a great Video! I loved that there are upgrades for this Bike to make it a super sport 3 wheeler !
Glad you love it! It is pretty cool that you can still hop these up. We had a lot of fun digging around to find all of the products needed for the build.
Brings back memories from the good old days
Wow I love your videos with all those vintage trike's shot. When the 250r will be over you could modify a 200x just to see what those little four stroke can do when they're hoped up. Keep on the good work!
The 200X is on our list.
Nice, thanks :)
Bike is amazing!! Will def be building me another one in the near future, i miss my trikes 😔
Glad to hear it. The wife has told me that the 350X stays even if I leave.
I miss my 85 350x but if I was to do a build of my own I would have used a FCR carb w hot start, steel rear sprocket either a larger oil cooler or dual cooler, red plastic with the blue seat. The 85s looked so much better than the 86s
The FCR would be a good upgrade.
@ATVonDemand My 05TRX450r has a 68mm Falicon stroker crank 97mm CP piston custom designed with approx 12-1 compression Hotcams ST3 cam port polish with 1+ intake valves and I bought a bored 43mmFCR carb & Nos adapter from MotoExperts Dyanatech programmable ignition with custom curve to rev to 12000RPM made & welded my own gusset kit powdered the frame honda red 06 +3/4in Swingarm with GT Thunder XC link made steel skid for link ProArmor nerfs frame & Swingarm pro am skids RPM Dominator XC axle and Racetech springs. Got bored waiting on parts polished the Swingarm and had it powered clear to protect it it turned out a little milky but it looks good. Took 38hrs to polish it! An additional oil cooler from a 400ex added approx a 3rd quart of oil ran in line with stock cooler because the Jagg oil filter adapter didn't work for some reason. K&N filter Outerware modded lid cover FMF Factory 4 full exhaust! Custom 2×6 × 2 lights on White bros bumper and custom 2×6 led light on Lonestar 7/8 antivibe bar and steering stem because the 450R's stock lights SUCK!!!
The whole reason I did the 68mm and not the 70.4mm crank is because of the 350x's 68mm crank reved so good compared to my 400ex I believe it's 70ish
That is 1 sick X! Keep up the good work really enjoy these videos. That Rob Ray can frickin ride!
around 5300 if not more into the parts not including the bike itself. watched this video for years and finally went and added it all up. great build and great looking machine
We're glad you enjoyed this project. We still have this machine hanging out. We had a lot of fun building this project.
@@ATVonDemand does rob own it ? Or do you guys? Or is rob apart of atv on demand ?
We love it too!! Its right around $6000, minus the price of the machine. It took us more then a year to pull it together. so the price was spread out.
There is a full parts and price list available on our website at the link in the description. .
Thanks for the reply and all of this information.
The ATC vids never get old..!!
#makeatcsgreatagain
Beautiful!
As I was watching this I was totally visualizing a rider with a pony tail... Then it happened! Then later in the video the Space Invader shirt was shown.
Wait till you see the vintage tee in our upcoming ATC250R project video.
Very goof
"Dust it off fix it up come racing" immortal words from Rob Ray.
Have owned the 250r and the 350x best machine I ever mastered and owned. I put the 350x engine in a 1985 250 fourweeler frame
man ya got me im soo gonna doo this thanks fur uploading : )
I'm 65 years old, only way anyone is going to get my 86 350X. Is prying it from my cold dead hands. She's my baby and I love and respect her.
HELL YEAH!
man i, old school and i love this thing
This... Is... AWESOME
would you be able to provide part numbers for the levers? didnt see numbers on the parts list and want to be sure to get the right levers.. thanks.. and thank you for the awesome vintage projects..
this is beauty
you guys should do a motorcross project on the 200x!!!
i need this more haha
LOL
Sweet!
this makes my field-find 200s look like a toddlers indoor toy
What about a 400ex aftermarket Cdi? I have found on 3wheeler.org some have found it to pick up rpms faster? Only for the 86 model. 85 has stator will not accept it. Might be worth looking into. Love this video btw. I'm doing a cam mod when I get the cash. Keep it up!
Thought you guys were doing one on a 250R.
and now for the question on the mind of anyone viewing... how much did all this shit cost?
xekul and it still won't run with a $250 ATC250R 😂
Thousands upon thousands by the looks of it but is mainly for show.
great commerical, I was afraid Id actually learn something
wasnt disappointed
Love this 350X!!!
Out of curiosity, do you guys have a ballpark cost for this build?
Rob, looks like you made it to thr big times. Doing interviews . They could not have found a better person for the job
Thank you very much!!!! That means a lot to me. It's always been a dream of mine since I started riding 3 wheelers at 10 yrs old and cutting pages out of the magazines and hanging them on my walls. I never would have thought just posting some of my vids would come to this. And now at 42 yrs old, I'm very thankful I still have the health and endurance to do this.
thumbthrottle been riding as long as you rob and about the same age also!! good job on the videos ive seen you in!
ive grown up on 3 wheel Kawis, 250's etc.. but a Honda guy as I got older ;)
I appreciate that, thanks!!!
Hi-Flite still makes custom seats also
I just picked one up.. I need all the parts help haha
We're excited for you. Enjoy!
This is one machine I never got to try unfortunately. How do they stack up vs the 250r?
Jamie Nichols I think you're going to find out at some point. We are planning on dusting off the three wheelers and putting them head-to-head in the future.
I heard the 350x was fast, but I assumed the claims were a joke because most 4 strokes were slow. I know that's all changed now.
What shock would you recommend for a 1985 ATC250R? I mostly ride sand.. Thank you :)
Race Tech Did a race conversion on our upcoming ATC250R project. We/ve completed testing and the results were beautiful. We can recommend this setup because we know it works well from experience. Race Tech haa good fork setup as well. They will ask what type of riding you do when you place your order.
Yea that thing is just plain lethal...
We haven't died on it yet!
ATVonDemand
hehehe but just looking at it i would be afraid to ride it...
You're on the edge if you ride one hard.
cant wAit for the 250r!! how far along are you on it.? around when will the finish be?
Before we release the project, we will be releasing a stock historic review of the machine. Look for the stock test by the end of February and the project machine within a month of that . Keep watching!
2 stroke > 4 stroke
4
tezy0193 4 stroke > 2 stroke (aka smoking mosquito)
tezy0193 sorry buddy my 350x does eat any ,250ccdirt bike I've ridden with, many helmet throwing pissed off individuals
Both! The atc R and the atc X are the way to go...why have just one lol
@@jhenry7406 lol you must be riding with idiots.
I love this, would you sell it, have you sold it?
+woodsman04 Woodsman, We are glad the video helped you fall in love with our 350X. Unfortunately it is not for sale. Its owner is in love with it as well and the price of buying it would be more than the cost of buying a 350X and replicating the build yourself which we highly encourage. All of the parts used on our machine are still available. Also, we plan on doing some updates to the machine at some point in the future.
Could you guys do an episode on the 1986 Honda 200x?
We will be doing a Classics review featuring both generations of the 200X. We will also be doing a build on a 1984 200X similar to the one on the 350X. Unfortunately, the later generation 200X models don't have as any aftermarket parts available.
ATVonDemand yes please do. Anything helps ha I'm rebuilding mine at the moment.
Can't wait for the 250R and 200X. Especially the 200X, I have one. Which generation 200X are you doing? First (1983-1985) or the second (1986-1987)?
It will have to be the 83-84 model. The 85-86 didnt have nearly the aftermarket support since they weren't raced like the generation 1 machines.
You mean the 83-85 model (they were all the same). That's what we were expecting, thanks ! Can't wait either. Do you have a time frame on that? Any other trikes you might be doing?
Once the 250R is complete we will be on the lookout for a good running 83-85 200x to evaluate and build up., Other models? sure, but none officially on the list yet.
Sounds fantastic. There are a few members on 3 Wheeler World that are interested in donating a 200X for your use if you are interested. I can get in contact with them if you so wish. As far as other models, several members have expressed interest in a 250SX and 1981/82 and 1983/84 250R's, as well as non Honda ATC's such as the Tecate 3 and Tri-Z 250. If you guys are game, locating the trikes should not be an issue.
Doing a build on a 200X will require us to purchase a machine. Test rider Rob Ray has a 250SX in VGC we have discussed doing a review on. In the long term, we would love to test all of the machines you mentioned. We will keep squeezing vintage tests in, as long as they continue to prove popular. Honestly, vintage tests are fun and different than what everyone else is doing. We appreciate your support!
How much does a build like this cost
Have you thought about doing a 86 tecate or 86 tri z?
Yes. We have several riders that are supposed to meet up with us in June at Trikefest to film a 1986 Tecate 3 test
ATVonDemand right on! I can't wait to see it.
What's the song in the backround?
horsepower ? will it keep up to the 450 quads ?
Lol not no, but hell no.
@ATVonDemand is Rob Ray a riding instructor? Does he host clinics or riding camps?
My dad had one but he should it when I was born😩
Bummer.
why are there 2 pipes coming from the head?
Im pretty sure theres 2 exhaust valves so one exhaust for each
What would be the cost of that??? Nice bike though.
Check out their website. They put up a build sheet with prices.
what can you do to a 250r :)
We are going to show you soon. Our ATC 250R is built and filmed. The video will be out later this winter.
Do that on a 250r
We did, you will see it soon.
how much do you want for it
According to the build sheet list, they have around $6,000 into it including the price of the machine.
yo hook it up my 200x is getting old

I’ve raced the 85 350x amongst others and could easily kick this guy’s butt, on the track shown, on a stock 350x with two exceptions. Flat track tires and wheel spacers, $200-$300. This bike shown has literally thousands upon thousands of upgrades ($5000 at least) and he’d still be in my dust racing on this track. And if it were trail riding, he’d never see me again after two minutes of riding. Sorry, but that is the truth.
Oh yeah, you're the man. We all want to join your fan club. Can you please tell us where we can buy your Fathead so we can stick it on our bedroom wall. Would you autograph it for us? Man you're cool. I think your are our all-time favorite viewer. You're probably the best three wheeler Rider that ever lived. I bet Marty Hart would like to learn a thing or two from you. Hey, I want to fire Rob Ray and hire you could you please send some video of some of your excellent riding? You're the man.
ATVonDemand Don’t take it so personal, just stating facts.
@ just stating facts, on my worse day you couldn't hold a candle to anything I can do, and that would be me doing it blindfolded. Before making accusations, be sure you can back those up. All my achievements have been video documented, where are your's?
Rob Ray Wrong, sorry, you wouldn’t stand a chance. I’ve seen your riding ability, and you’d be in my dust from the hole shot until the checker flag, guaranteed.
@ I'll believe it when I see it. It's really easy to brag behind a keyboard. I'm sure you probably haven't amounted to anything in life. That's ok, you have my sympathy and you can enjoy the moment living through me.
Meyer plastic looks nothing like stock. They are lame. Im searching for plastic for my 88 250r. All the options out there are disappointing.
1985? Vintage? Are you guys americans?
its vintage for atc/atv world. The first four wheel atv ever was made in 1983 by suzuki.
i have a all stock 81 honda atc 200. still runs like a champ! everything but new spark plug and oil and a new headlight and chain. 4 speed. gets alittle ruff if you let er rip through a feild cause theres no suspension lol but i bought it for $300 and i doubt ill ever get rid of it!
Good stuff. We'd like to pick up a 185S at some point.
Am i the only one that think this narrator make this video feels like a parody?
Guiimauve 6962 the narrator would like to invite you to do voice overs since you are obviously in the thority on this
death trap
Just like your house.
