It seems to me like Turtle beach did a lot of market research into identifying what features sim racers find valuable, such load cell sensors, magnetic shifters, quick releases, direct drive motors, button boxes, etc, but didn't actually do anything to make the features good.
Yup. I think you nailed it.
I wouldnt expect this wheelbase to survive 6 months of competitive usage on Assetto Corsa, much less a year.
I would be surprised if a large percentage don’t arrive already broken. Turtle Beach is about as good as Walmart’s ONN brand.
What makes you say that? I have a set of flight rudder pedals that seem very high quality and many people have used them extensively with few to no problems. Plus, unlike Fanatec, you'll actually have a customer service that is reliable.
@@jasonshort43 Because most people's experience with Turtle Beach comes down to their cheaper than OEM mass produced peripherals (Headphones/Controllers) I'd wager a flight setup would be significantly higher quality than their xbox controllers for instance, given it's a much smaller niche and they've been making flight gear for years, so they've already had time to get them wrong
Hopefully that logic of niche product = more care and attention follows through but time will tell I suppose, one universal upside though is that more companies getting into the game means more competition, so I welcome Turtle Beach regardless
@@jasonshort43 Because I previously owned a TS-PC Ferrari 488 Challenge Edition, alongside the T3PM and TH8A.
After 3-4 months, issues already began popping. FFB disconnect (which got fixed immediately by a driver update) and the infamous gear noises. No matter how many times I took it apart, lubrificated the gears with WD-40, put it back together, it always came back after 5 days. The maintenance schedule was so short in fact that when I tried putting it back together a 3rd time, the plastic shroud covering the shaft wouldnt thread back together as all the plastic threads were shredded. So obviously I coped for the next months until the screws holding the 488 rim into the hub began popping loose. And because Thrustmaster made liberal use of plastic, I couldnt screw them back in place :D
Im still trying to sell the whole rig (Wheelstand 2.0, TH8A, TS-PC and T3PM) for $200 CAD. Thats how bad the problems were.
@@limpetarch98k implying a DD wheel would break because your gear driven one did?
The engine start button issue is so stupid lmao, at least it sounds like most issues of this set should be fixable in software
Hopefully, but yes I was super confused when I wasn’t able to bind the engine start 🤣😭
I get the aesthetic choice.
I don't own anything more advanced than a G27 and a driving force GT (I have reasons for keeping both but they need updating).
But if I understood correctly. They are a 2 button switch for the force feedback?
Shouldn't that be on the base unit?
The toggle switches are useless as they only have one state of input. You cant use them as toggle functions unless the ingame prompt allows a held input. Which I dont know of a game that has that other than Microsoft Flight Sim. The bottom 4 toggles have 3 detented positions with only one of those positions giving any input.
@@117johnparBeamng
engine start button is to turn on the wheel and the stop is to turn it off. this is a safety feature.
@OCRacing Finally a professional review is coming out. Please don't hold back because a lot of first time and budget simmers are waiting to purchase this combo. Let us know exactly what we are getting into (short/long term) if we purchase this. Thank you.
Let me know your thoughts 🫡
Based on the video, if you are only going to use it on PC, I get the feeling that something like Moza is a better investment as of today. Cost is pretty much the same. Slighly less strength at 5nm, but its still reliable with no lag on pedals as an example.
It can be better in 6 months time. But if looking today and just want a great combo, I would strongly recommend Moza R5 or even R9 if you want to spend a little more.
I do have the R9 and had it for a bit over a year now. I love it and only complaints I have is that some games is not supported.
@@rickardsvensson7097 I’ve had an r5 for a few months and the only problem I’ve had the whole time is connecting it to forza. It’s definitely the best dd wheel on the market for the price.
Moza R5 bundle at this level is vastly superior.
@@demonicsquid7217 that’s what I have and it’s definitely the best performance for the money I’ve tried
I was really excited when they announced this because I want to upgrade to a DD wheel from my G29 but the pedal delay is a deal breaker as a competitive iRacer. The G29 is cheap but at least the inputs are accurate. I'm honestly not too surprised they under delivered because had this been done well it would've changed the market with getting the digital dash and button box included. Even if they aren't great.
No H pattern is always a no from me
It's better to get a Moza, Fanatec, or Simucube.
g29 works dude. if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. direct drive doesn’t make you faster . some of the top sim racers at least oval wise still use g27’s
Thank you! Ive been so desperate for this content/info, I almost went and got one myself. Thank you SO MUCH for putting this out with your own purchased unit!
I still cant get over the editing in these videos, keep up the good work OC!
love the videos because of you i got into sim racing and its been a life saver was lost after i broke my back but sim racing puts a smile and puts me in a great mood.
Hey man! Wishing you a great recovery ❤
Pedals, lack of software compatibility, flex, non-usable buttons, seems to be a lot of problems for a sim racing wheel set that was already released. Will be interesting if they can fix all of these issues. Problem is the hardware wouldn't really be able to fix. Especially that flex in the pedals and the button box mount. I seriously doubt they would exchange those hardware pieces. I love my Moza R5, great compatibility, super strong made of metal, not plastic, force feedback feel is amazing, the software for the wheel and pedals works really well. And it cost less than this one.
I got the R5 as well the pedals are trash but the base is amazing you can always upgrade the pedals later like I did It is the best way to get started though.
The moment I heard this was a brand that had no history on the market, I started to doubt the quality until I had sure it was bad.
@OCRacing thank you for the review. You brought a lot of clarity.
thanks. finally something useful to watch :) exactly the information I expected to get answered by a review :) good job!
It looks cheap and expensive at the same time lol good vid oc!
Looks like a cheap product that's been attempted to make look premium. Typical turtle beach crap
the value of this wheel bundle is very good for what it is, all the real issues will most likely be ironed out with software updates@@Randomii666
Well as he said this is first product of such type. I have god a game pad which is really nice. But directly noticed the xbox button exactly the same :D
Software issues is important to be aware of, but that can be fixed.
The flex of the button box i noticed even in their promotion videos. Start engine == Start wheelbase well that's funky there. This I have doubts is probably not changeable via software.
The main issue is that the price looks at the moment to high for what you get, with all those issues.
But I guess development and production of that will have it's part at this price point as well.
I mean if it's really 7,2Nm this is some serious force there. So that motor isn't the cheap stuff. Compared to some G29 well... no comparison in fact.
I think they don't wanted to push out something highend for cheap ...
Idea is quite good if you ask me. But like said it takes time to get a foot into that market.
What a roller-coaster of emotion this was. No idea TB was gonna make this, disappointed to see where it's at.
Also, please sell OC gloves so we can support the channel and get a handy pair of gloves too
Thank you for posting this. I was stuck between this and the Moza R5 bundle. Now I know what to go with.
Enjoy your new turtle beach
this is a toy compared to a moza. Should've never even been a consideration. Buy from sim-motion if you want fast shipping. From moza will take a month.
Oh God man that crackling effect in the cuts, I thought my headphones were dying!
Thanks for the honest review!

Ots been a quite lokg time since a pro review, not that i hate the gaming vids , i love them , but i miss the reviews, and i also noticed that pxn released a nwe wheel the pxn v12 , they say its good woth 6nm , i am considering to buy it as my first wheel but there is no review yet and you are the only one who trusts when it comes to wheels , hope you drop us a review soon
Sidenote: when you finishe the review and you dont have a place to store it no worries i have a place for a wheel here😉😉
Don't buy the PXN. Buy the Moza R9 or R12 instead. Thank me later
@@DarrenMartin-bw8zi I am looking for something cheap , good and compatible with Xbox , I thought the newer pxn wheels are worth it ( a motor , wheels , 3 pedals and a shifter)
Great video. There are already other youtube reviews showing the RMD working on PC games...so this must be possible. Xbox does not have any games supporting the RMD just yet.
Excellent review - good idea for the product, which needs polishing, but if it opens to futre updates/products, a good news overall.
Thanks for sharing!
I told my self I was waiting for a review of this unit bc it was coming out when I was looking for my first sim wheel. Ended up with a second hand g920 and rig to hold it and glad I went that route
Definitely a good choice
That intro was gas 👀🔥
Thank you for the review, this wheel has some potential, if they can crack down on some of these glaring problems, i have no doubt this will be a strong contender in the simracing market.
for the price theyre asking it will be a contender. but not a strong one... too many other brands with better hardware and software for a smaller price... and in my personal exaperience turtle beach products havent been known to be lasting long
Cammus C5 bundle is 300 bucks (330 with desk clamp) and while it doesn't look the prettiest, it's a good wheel. So what place in the market does this overpriced turtle beach wheel have?
@@VexxedSR or even go for the c12 for 580 with the desk clamp. get a set of used pedals and your still under what turtle beach want
or fanatec CSL bundle where you get 8nm, a 300mm round wheel and pedals for 400$ easy choice if you ask me
In addion of this: 1) The Screen Telemetry of the wheel is only working on PC = no Xbox games with telemetry are supported, it’s only on PC.
2) On Xbox only 9 actions buttons on the wheel are working = actions buttons of the encoders & of the button box only working on PC.
3) On Xbox, ASSETTO CORSA COMPETIZIONE & F1 23 are not compatibles. 4) On Xbox, the Wheel is "Plug & Play" but not on PC = on PC, in all games, there is not preset of the wheel, and we need to configure it manually for all buttons and axes. 5) The Load Cell measurement is only 50Kg. 6) The 7,2Nm is only for maximum peaks = it’s not the constant force.
Wow this review is very eye opening. It seems like turtle beach has some good ideas, but it lacks polish and great software that many will rather prioritise over gimmicks. But would be good to look out for their future products and updates, we could see an industry changing wheel come in the future?
Hey I have a Logitech g920 along with the Logitech shifter, looking to upgrade to this here soon. Does the shifter work with this wheel? I saw you shifting in the video and was curious what shifter you’re using
With the pedal flex. Does your cockpit not have a pedal plate or is the pedals over hanging it? On my rig i have the foot rest part overhanging, instead of the pedals. Does the quick release on yours get hot to touch? Is this normal for DD wheels? My wheel came with v1.0.1 firmware. Most of the buttons conflicted with each other and seemed like the ffb was kinda muted. Newest firmware fixed the button problem and gave more feel in the ffb. At least imo. I'm going from memory on my old ts-pc and only have AC to play with at the moment. Things i learned from your video, theres buttons on the backside and the clutch/throttle springs can kinda be adjusted.
For the same price u can get a starter kick by fanatec the starter kick also comes with the wheel bases so u can add on different wheels
This Video vibe reminds me extremly of Motorsport TV Magazines when they covered a racing car but without the long monologe that in the middle or beginning.... But this music and then being very fast faded in and the shots overall it just looks like a guy that edited only Carmagazine TV Reviews before he became youre editor
that intro music was a banger.
Damn I had high hopes for this wheel 😔, looked like it could have been a start for a series of more affordable DD wheel.
Are the clutch wheel paddles softer because they are actually analog paddles?
The button box looks pretty damn cool I can’t lie even if it doesn’t work the best and it’s definitely a good idea
Looks like you can change the quick release also every issue with it looks like you could fix it pretty easily
Lowkey been waiting for this
You know I gotchu 😎
Keep uo the good content man 👍🏼
This might actually help me, the headphone jack on the side in general. The way I have my setup is like this, for audio I have Xbox and my xbox controller audio cable goes to the back of my PC so that all audio goes though my PC so that when im talking to friends on PC they dont hear my Xbox game audio. and it can go to my soundbar If I feel like it.
Cant wait to hear everyone's tools rattling around inside the wheelbase with hot mic lol
Tmx and t150 gang check in
Those are a good deal.
I think the idea of the audio jack is to pass the cable behind the button box.
I got this wheel at the beginning of the month, I have not been in able to download the tuning software on my PC. It fails anytime I try to download it from the Microsoft store. I got the screen to work through sim hub. Also the included Allen key broke after less then 5 times using since I have to move the wheel from my desk to work
Where can we get the OC Racing gloves 😮
Honestly. Never knew this thing existed. Until I saw this video lol glad I’m not the only one who didn’t know about this thing
if this was 400euro it would be prety good but for 700+ and moza in the game, its tough
A Moza R5 Bundle with the clutch pedal add-on and H-Pattern shifter is pretty much the same price, i’ll probably be getting one soon if my G920 keeps acting weird
I have a g920 ive been using for like 3-4 years now, and really need to ugrade, and also really need a handbrake, i dont really wanna get a thrustmaster cause they dont seem THAT much better to make it worth upgrading, i was thinking about getting one of these but thats probably a no, what would yall recommend? Should i just bite the bullet and get a fanatec?
The wheelbase looks like it has some potential but Turtle Beach seems to aim for beginners who want to try direct drive wheel so they put basically a lot of gimmicks but sacrificing the quality of the pedal and the wheel. If they just bring the no-frills direct drive wheel like Cammus C5 or Moza R3 then maybe it has some decent reviews
Should i upgrade from my g29 to moza r3
The one positive I see in this is the headphone socket. Being an Xbox user that's a nice touch
Stating that third party wheels are not compatible just because your other wheels don't mount with their own proprietory QRs is a pretty bold statemement and would apply to all manufacturers. Third party wheels likely would be compatible if they have an appropriate QR or adaptor.
Could you take the pedals out of the base and free mount them?
Great video like always. I did find it quite suspect that they didn't send anyone any review samples and now we know why lol. That build quality is awful and won't last very long.
Definitely returning, just got it today and its been plugged in correctly double and triple checked and it will not turn on, power adapter is fine. The base is just refusing to work
You pressed the start button as he said?
@afternoonview ive unplugged it let the power adapter completely die, double and triple checked all the cords tried the xbox power button the side power button and start button. Wheel base is just junked
Thanks for the video
honestly turtle beach used to be my go to for gaming stuff like headphones, they were quality at a cheap price. stopped buying from them those as the quality seemed to continually dip as the years went on :(
considering this is their first ever wheel you'd think would do something simple kinda like the Logitech G20 series and evolve over time not just jump in head first but at least it looks nice even if the overall quality is bad
comparrison to the cammus C5? obviously the price is not even in the same universe, but at the end of the day, its performance that counts. So id personally be interested in a comparison betweet the C5 and this.
Oscar! Do a review on the Moza tsw
I’ll see what I can do 👍
can you do the red dragon wheel next?
I feel like we should give TB some time to iron out some of these issues, its their first attempt and given the price point and the fact that you do get a fair amount of features, given a few months maybe a gen or 2 of wheels they'll have it down
amazing editing mate! Once again :D
It's super exciting to see new companies enter the space! But Turtle Beach? Could we not get, ANYONE else? A 7.2 Nm motor in that cheap plastic housing and a load-cell on a plastic deck that looks like it will crack within weeks is all like putting a V12 in a hatchback. If they didn't prioritse gimmicks like that screen and the useless dials they really could've made a much better wheel. It'll be sad seeing how many of these break
Dude for real I would never trust this company I'd rather gamble with the pxn. Direct drive haha.... Well neither really but still....
Well done on the video, I know for a fact Turtle Beach is reconsidering their choice to stay below $1000 USD to deliver a quality experience as a bundle.
Wished i had seen this before I got it ! : ( !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sending it back !
Thank you. Nice info. But I'm confused as to what a " Budden" is.
BUTT-IN hehe
I own a G27 and a driving force GT (I have reasons for keeping both but they need updating).
I was eyeing this up to replace both my wheels with 1 but now I am not so sure.
Not a SIM racer. Just BeamNG, Live For Speed and Elite Dangerous.
The button box and dial switches were a huge draw (covers the ED aspect).
The clutch plus an added USB shifter (3rd party). Would handle Beam and LFS.
Plus more modern hardware too.
i have the flight yoke. while its decent, for half the msrp it would feel a lot better. the software leaves a lot to be desired though. so im not too optimistic on that front.
HEY i have a question i have a 500 euro budget and i was thinking of upgrading my g29 . I was looking at a csl dd ready 2 race bundel with the mcleran wheel . But i game n pc and playstation . So i was thinking to buy a t300 rs gt with the open wheel mod do you stil recommend it in 2024 ?
Go fo a DD I would say, less friction parts to worn out, less noisy (no noise at all), more powerful, future and ecosystem proof....
Youve certainly saved many new to sim racings bank balances with this very Thorough review. Fanatec and Moza both offer bundles that completely outclass this chitty chitty bang bang toy wheel for the same or slightly less money and will give you much more bang for your buck!! 100%
A shame that they didn't get the fundamentals down before working on the bonus stuff like the button box and telemetry screen. This wheel had great promise.
I’m brand new to sim racing and only have Xbox. Does anyone have any recommendations for games and decent cheap beginner rigs?
650$ for a Turtle Beach is a huge gamble tbh. I would look at other options honestly.
Any wheel/pedal bundle under $1200 is a bit of a gamble. You get what you pay for and have to manage expectations accordingly. For half of what I would advise an enthusiast to spend, it's not a horrible offering.
Jesus christ under 1200??!! What kind of stuff are you buying? I would never consider over like 300.
@@tilburg8683 For real. I'm dirt poor. If I drop 1200$ on anything it better be the swiss army knife of racing games, and cook me food, and rub my feet while I'm driving lol. And I know how much people are willing to spend on this hobby. I'm talking for me personally.
There must be a lot of variability with the pedals on this bundle. My brake load cell is more than sturdy enough for me to stand my 200lb weight on it and only just make it to 100% input. This is with me standing out of my chair.
The throttle had no outer deadzone with travel. But the input isnt linear at all. at "High" sensitivity, Its only giving 15% throttle input with the physical pedal at 50% depression. Making corner exists very difficult to roll onto power.
Did you even properly update the device..?
moza r 3 review soon?
I have no interest in buying this, but your editing is so good that im still watching it lmao
Appreciate it a lot =)
the wheel shape is a deal braker for me, especially when the quick release is not compatible with other wheels
My personal experience with this company is premium price for average quality. I bought headsets from them a while back that were supposed to be premium and they both broke after 3 months from the same cable issue. Granted that was about 15 years ago so they may have improved but for the price they're asking I feel there are better options on the market that are safer and have a reputation of delivering good quality sim racing peripherals.
I think the pedals actually show the sort of quality you'll be getting with this... The button box idea is pretty cool but again the quality looks like something I'd expect on a child's toy rather than a more expensive wheel.
In that price range I would say it's wiser to get the CSL DD with the power pack and the load cell brake kit.
ive had some more recent headsets and yeah theyre still pretty shocking
@@Xelantic. I got to try the $200 turtle beach stealth pro headset and my $20 Chu II IEMs completely stomp them for both competitive gaming audio and music enjoyment.
I do like the buddons on this wheel
Have you updated the firmware?
I can see a yellow dot next to firmware at 10:53. AFAIK this indicates that a new FW is available.
CAUTION:
Before updating the FW for the first time, disconnect the pedals!
Hahaha well seen, doing a review for a non updated is the way to go clearly 🤣
Did anyone at Turtle Beach test this product? I am deeply surprised by the pedals plate flex and accelerator behaviour, this actually disqualifies the product already.
I remember that ages ago company with this name made great sound cards with top notch quality. I wonder what (except the name) is the connection between both companies. Definitely not quality based product approach.
Did they send this to you or you bought it yourself?
Edit: Asked this before the video went live
In the beginning of the vid he says they sent him one but it didn’t come in time so he bought this one.
Both LOL
When will companies start realizing that no one asks for a D shaped wheel. JUST GIVE US ROUND WHEELS
Pretty damn good for a first attempt ngl. The pedals are junk but everything else really imo only just needs minor improvements even if it gets more expensive
definitely looks like a "first generation" product, i hope they can improve on this, especially on the software side
Yooo oc racing video on my birthday?! Lfg
