Velocity aircraft designs some of the most unique airplanes in the world. Their aircraft are canard designs with a pusher motor in the back. The Velocity twin is the most powerful in the line up with double the power. Each engine has 180 hp Velocity XL which propels this aircraft to cruise at 200 knots (230 mph) burning 16-20 gallons of fuel per hour.
The Velocity V-Twin was designed to provide a safe and efficient transportation aircraft especially for those who fly at night, over mountains, over large bodies of water, serious IFR and those who just want the redundancy of a second engine to get them home or to an airport in the event of an engine failure.
A fully loaded Velocity Twin will cost roughly $450,000.

Mike, Sorry for interrupting your filming. I didn't realize you were doing a video at the time, and just wanted to say hey. At least you got me in the background for proof😎😂
Of all the planes I can't afford, this is one of my favorites. But will delay my non-puchase until they upgrade the model to offer more luggage space.
For me it's the DC-3. I've always wanted to see one with jet engines in it too.
I'm waiting on the turboprop version
@@sobhi05 I think the turboprop version will be a bit disappointing, those small PBS turboprop engines have a very high specific fuel consumption, about 50% higher when compared to a PT6-21. At 120 hp output (about 70% cruise throttle), each of those little turboprops is burning 16 gallons an hour, so 32 gph in total. Quite a lot for a small plane like this. Fuel costs will likely be double when compared to the V-Twin with the Deltahawk engines, for only slightly better performance.
@@CockatooDude
there's a 120 hp Pratt and Whitney?!
I confess this could be the closest thing you can buy to a Beechcraft Starship, which I think is possibly the most beautiful twin engine transport ever made...!
Piaggio Avanti
Agreed.
The Starship is a beautiful plane, so sexy.
Agreed!
The starship is the reason I got into GA. It's so beautiful.
I’ve love velocity since the 80’s. Beautiful airplane ✈️.
Thank you, Mike. This is my all-time bucket list airplane. Always nice to see great content on it.
I’ve thought about this concept for a while, didn’t know that it already existed. So cool !
First video of yours I've seen, thanks! That's an amazing airplane for the price.
The stuff dreams are made off. Thank you mike.
I saw one of these at San Luis Obispo it looked rad!
Cool plane. Thanks for showing it.
Thank you for the tour 👍🇺🇸🇺🇸
My future plane thx Mike awesome vid!!
Thank you Mike. Good stuff !
Love your vids Mike!
Wow that thing is beautiful
vortex generators on the cunard (leading wing) helps air maintain contact with the wing and extend the separation point rearwards at the boundary layer by imparting energy to the air - conservation of momentum. helps prevent the wing stalling at lower airspeeds.
Thanks for the technical explanation. Actually its 'Canard', being French for Duck. A Cunard is an old steamship line. :)
@@H-Zazoo cheers - not great at spelling
@@alianjohnson6035 Tell me about it. I've been trying to buy a new loover, lufer, lucifer, loovah... for my bathroom all evening. It's a lot of work just to scratch your back.
Loofah.
@@H-Zazoo ha ha ha spelling can be difficult sometimes cheers
A uniquely unique aircraft Interesting Props. Cheers!
I remember seeing a plane similar to this fly over the house an the sound of the motor caught my attention also the shape. Never saw it again guy ended up crashing months later during take off the seat went back an he went straight up an stalled.
Man! I love that plane
That is a cool aircraft at really a pretty decent price and performance. It's really nice to have a choice of engines for an aircraft.
good information and delivery
WOW.....!!!!! What a Beautiful Aircraft !!
The leg room is amazing
Very good looking aircraft.
Since I can't have Beechcraft Starship, I'll take one of these.
A beautiful airplane.
Excellent, Thank You 👏 🙏
My dream plane 😍
My dream too.
Now that's awesome, thing has to climb like crazy
Wow what a beautiful bird
Beautyfull aircraft...Javé to say that high Tech design os from the 80's!... and continues to be modern att 2021🇺🇸👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
1400nm is a superb range for a kitplane🛫🤓
And no description of the vortex generators was to be found.
I'm going to buy me a twin engine velocity thank you so much for showing it.
The Icon A5 is my favorite plane, but this one is a close second.
Looking forward to seeing if the Veloce 600 materializes and gets flying.
The owner of 4RJ has the hangar next to my uncles. Very nice guy, he’s always working on the plane.
Sorry to miss you at sun n fun, but I did see your beautiful plane ! was always big fan of RVs now thinking little different.)
Love love
looking to get my license, your videos motivate me, ty
Good vid I love these aircraft! Save the penny's and maybe one day?
Hope they make an XL with 3 adult seats in the second row.
My kids will grow up one day….
Pipe dream if I could I’d make this a 6 seater set up like a Baron. Twin PT6. Widen the cabin and fuselage. Pressurized cabin. 1/3 more wing loading. Retractable swing canards F-14 style. Basically a small Starship/Avanti.
You're basically describing a Beechcraft Starship.
Nice canard design
Thanks Mike… I hope u can document a test flight in the v twin… would also love to see u fly the rv10! Keep up the good work!
There's a man in Australia building a kit version of this planing on putting in a modified turbo Honda accord engine into his that can run on Diesel and aviation fuel.
You're quite good at showing what I want to see.....except for asking the owners about mounting TurbAeros on the back of the Velocity Twin!
I luv this plane, it should be a production plane.
the twin engine model would look so much better without that rear tail..
I want to see you take that up and hear what you think of it from the perspective of flying it!
Yes!!
Yea, except it’s not all about air time, it’s about landing in those short runways to get into those little adorable cottage towns and this plane can’t do it. That’s why the guys with brains go turbine because you get “”thrust reverse”” in Beta. Being able to reverse pitch is what it’s all about, which gets you into “”all the airports”” not just the super long ones.
Hey Mike, another great video, did you happen to check out the Flying Legend booth, I saw the Tucano Replica in the background of this video. Would like to know your thoughts.
That looks like it is moving fast standing still. Wow
Iam seeing your video from India
So it has the useful load (weight), but does this thing have reasonable luggage space for four traveling people?
Thx Mike , in my best 3 Aircraft. Would love a Single Pusher with a V8 & the Twin with Turbo Prop Engines .
You prefer the twin? Value AND safety? Hope the fuel tank selector switch is in easy reach. If engine out performance is excellent on takeoff that would be the main reason I would have Rutan's best design with tail feathers forward. I forgot about retracts on these. Years back a pilot gave the green light to cut a hole in the roof so could have a manually adjusted inflight CG installation using a 50 lb weight. I had thought about that years ago and smart people thought I was crazy...
Great looking plane. I dont like the colors of the interior with that wood effect. It would look nice with a black carbon finish I feel! Looks like it took inspiration from Beech Starship and Piaggio Avanti. Really cool. Nice vid as always!!
Amazing, like a mini P.180.
Go to Edgewater, FL and pick up TWO Viking Aircraft Engines (195 hp 1.5L Turbo) that can run on 91 or 93 octane MOGAS and then you would be set!
If you’re going to spend this kind of money on a kitplane, it would be idiotic to use Viking engines in it.
I’d be okay using a Viking in a stol plane that can land at 35 mph when the engine goes out and you go full flaps. But not on this
why do i keep watching this video over and over
2:19, I am kind of hoping that the gear comes up once I have taken off, not when I am ready to take off :-)
So I heard that correct.. thats Mike.. no fun in facts.
Have to wonder what the V1 cut is like.
MIKE!!! Another great episode man! You may be one of the coolest guys. (Yeah, that was it, there was nothing else to add!) Keep cranking them out brother, super enjoyable and a unique take on aviation! 👍🏼
So the fuel gauges have to be read from the backseat? Seems kind of odd.
No those are additional gauges. The primary gauges are in the G3X touch avionics
@@mojogrip Well that's a relief, thanks. If I recall the Grumman A1-A has those kind as the primary gauges. In the front though, as there is no back.
My favorite
4 people, but where do the 4 golf bags go?
I really like this twin. My only wish is that it did 225 (and ideally, 250) kts. Gorgeous.
There is one being built, has to be pretty close to being finished by now, with the UL520T's. Those engines are claimed to keep the full power up to 15,000 ft, so that should put it over the 225 knot easily.
@@kvnkaveman
✅ more power
✅ higher “full power” altitude
✅ fuel injected
✅ faster
WHO is building it? WHERE?
@@baomao7243 In one of the factory tour videos Swing talked about it briefly. I think it was right after the engine was released, it was one of the planes being built through the owners assist at the factory so it has to be finished by now. That engine came out almost two years ago.
THe single engine XL (with the most powerful option) does 250kts cruise speed
@@baomao7243 it’s being finish in California. We’re also build a twin turbo prop in our shop
It looks like both props spun counter clockwise, why wouldn't they counter rotate to cancel roll tourq?
Don't understand why the Vans RV15 wasn't a twin engined aircraft to be honest.
It's a market under-served by other kit manufacturers.
An RV10 with two O-320s or two O-360s for example.
Instead we got an alternative to the Glasair Sportsman/Murphy Radical/Zenith Ch701 Super Duty/Rans S-21/Bearhawk Companion, etc.
Good move on the contra-rotating powerplants. A critical engine-out wouldnt be an option without it. But I really like the emergency third-wing door design! Lol! Thanks for reviewing attainable aircraft. Really enjoying this channel.
...? Both props spin CCW on this machine (1:45). It shouldn't be as much of an issue as on a conventional twin though since the engines are much closer to the centreline than usual (smaller props next to the narrow tail instead of passengers' shoulders)
I think you forgot to explain the vortex generators on the canard :) (It's not in the description)
Mike, just saw something on the Blackshape. Can you find out more. There is a distributor in the US now, I heard.
There is. I will cover Blackshape prime soon
I like motogrip because he has the enthusiasm of a kid. Clearly not a super technical guy and new to Aviation, so his descriptions aren't always accurate. Still a lot of enthusiasm.
What were the domahickies or thingamabobs on the wings that you said you'd say more about in the comments?
Vortex generators
Good job, Mike, as always. GOD Bless
My all-time favorite kit plane! Would love to build one with the Higgs FALCON FL200 diesels (210hp, 30k ft service ceiling, low fuel consumption).
I also am impressed with the Higgs diesel. Two thumbs up.
A pressurized 6-place with the power plants you mention would be awesome!
@@AClark-gs5gl Velocity is working on a 6-place but I don't know if it will be pressurized. Also working on a turbo-prop version.
What’s the headroom like? I’m 6’7” and I don’t always fit.
I am looking at this since I have access to 2 working O-360 from scrap planes.
But 450k is too much for experimental kit, how much we are looking for finished minus the engine?
Is there anything worth building with the 160hp engine?
Depends on what you want. Some owners give up 25% range and throw on bigger engines. Thats the cool part about experimentals
@MojoGrip quick question how they manage with gullwing doors in the case of a incident and ending up upside down?
Isn't it gullwing, not goldwing?
@@rgp112750 😂 always thought they said gold wing thanks for the clarification.
I put a crash axe in mine. Basically a demo hammer. If I did end up in a situation where I couldn't open the doors, then I could break out the windshield or a side window.
Great Mike
It would be interesting to compare this with a 310 feature for feature...
Awesome! Jet power yet?
Mike I would take the twin engine plain with the Turbo motors If I could get it like that
What are higher output engine/prop options for the Velocity Twin? (I would love to see a variant that could get to 250kts like the Velocity XL single engine.)
Is there a video of this plane flying?
hihi...i folow your chanel since a while, love your passion and explanation. so, there are now sooo many products on the market, only experts can sort out whats best....please explane to your audience....is a carnac desine better, ore more easy, ore more stable, or better in storm ect, where are the advantages, then, would i be not better having 1 stronger engine, like a turbine with 360-400hp instead 2 witch burn 2times fuel, ore is a 2 engine more stable in flying-ore oposite...so, what is most easy and forgiving designe ? thse answers would be interesting....
Not a fan of the vertical stab/dorsal fin design.
A pressurized, turbo prop, full fadec, 6-place would be awesome.
They’re apparently working on that right now. Check out their website
This plane lost a lot of that Rutan panache by resorting to a single vertical stabilizer. Was that a concession for the engine layout? The fully retractable gear is a big plus.
Need the additional rudder authority for a single engine scenario in a twin
Does putting in extra wing tanks in a Cessna 150 affect the cert. of the plane?
Its not a factory thing. So it will de-certify the plane.
@@flexairz thank you for giving me this depressing news. I now know that key point.
Stall speed about 70 knts?
How much is it just for the nice dash?
What's the advantage of this design over others?
What’s the range
Beechcraft Starship - One of the best
Seems like the XL has about the same cruse speeds as this one the only advantage is higher climb rates, and redundancy of two engines for 3 times the money.
I can't wait for a new brand of Velocity aircraft to be built to receive two gas turbine engines...maybe a bit larger 6 passengers , TBM style..
hot damn that's a sexy plane
3:35 i think you misspoke. its a variable prop
Constant speed prop is the correct term. The term refers to the fact that the “variable prop” is able to maintain a constant engine speed. Constant speed prop does not mean fixed pitch
@@RobtheAviator kinda confusing. I thought it was only variable and fixed pitch.
@@gregson99 confusing indeed!

Wish they made 6 seater with pressurized and icing boots. That would add a lot complexity and weight I image though.
