    Even though P. J. O'Rourke was Republican, he called out BS regardless of what side caused it. He did the dirty work of calling out everyone. He may not have been accepted by mainstream as much as he deserved, but he fought the good fight. RIP P. J. O'Rourke. 👼

    Really O'Rourke, you had a Eureka moment about Chinese workers needing unionization but not US workers? Wages are depressed, household income is about that of 1980, the divide between upper 5% and the rest of us is at its widest. Who represents the average worker, if not unions?

    The last thing politicians want is greater GENIUNE attention given to education. The more educated a population is, the more likely they are to see through the BS that is the average politician's bread and butter. The more erudite a population is, the more likely they are to see that there is very little difference between your average Democrat or Republican candidate, and that both are bought by corporate interests, and such a widespread realization would ruin the lives of politicians.

    @12quillemall5321 read up on "Liberal Arts" on Wikipedia. The first meaning was the stuff FREEDMEN (liberated) got to study, how the world works, holistically, versus the slaves who were expected to get a skill and be narrowly confined to that job "stovepipe". How much of education today is all about "job training"? I see violations of correct debating almost daily, because I got a Liberal Arts backdrop while the Fox News army did not.

    O'Rourke is right. There are crappy teachers but the quality of a school has a lot to do with the students and their parents. Also school is basically babysitting/hangout center for older kids, rather than a learning place. People can't expect to learn much in school. They have to learn themselves. Some of these teachers barely know the subjects they're supposed to be teaching. Some of them only became teachers cause they couldn't do anything else.

    How come no-one wants to grab onto the national primaries idea? All I can think of is financiall affluence. Guess what? In other places (that aren't America) there are systems of governmental campaign finance to ensure some level of equity to candidates. E.g. all candidates, who get the signatures from enough people to run, get an equal share from a pool of money. They may or may not be able to add to that from their own money. Regulate it. Equal playing field. Plus - less money wasted on adds.

The wars won't be fought by soldiers, it will be faught by the well educated and idiots ie we americans. Parents need to be as involved with their kids education and how they learn.If you want our children to succeed you have to get them to learn as much as possible. @12quillemall5321 I beg to differ, I was born, raised and educated in a third world country (Venezuela) and got a good college education in a public school for about 300 dollars a year (1500 total for my 5 year Bachelors in physics). In fact most countries in South America (which you probably would consider third world) have pretty good access to free public education for all, from K to college, and in fact, people fight to keep it that way, and make education more accessible to all (Chile).

    @1313elsanto I beg to differ. Venezuela's is far from being third world. It's closer to being another socialist country. My parents are from a third world country called Honduras, where public education ends at the 6th grade. You have to pay for an education that goes beyond basic arithmetic. At least they learn two trades, sewing or farming.
    Here in America, we are basically babysitting because a child with a physic education is just as likely to find a job, as one no education.

      garfieldisgod I agree with your point there for sure. Regardless of the education system's problems, any kid who studies hard will succeed and learn.... and those who refuse to work hard and place all blame on the schools will fail.

    • @garfieldisgod
      @garfieldisgod Před 9 lety +2

      I was being a little harsh on kids. When, actually, the problem of education is fueled by many societal factors. Too many distractions from video games, violent, selfish tv shows and movies, disinterested parents and peers, and learning problems of a physiological nature also. All of life influences a child's learning. I forgot to mention economic disparities among children. Well-to-do families tend to produce children who get ahead. I was told in college orientation booklet I received in my 1st semester that students attending university with "luxury money" have a high advantage (proven statistically) over students who have to work and worry where the money is coming from; while in school. I, like many, tend to spout out slogans; and for that I apologize.
      Regarding education; as the saying goes "it's complicated".

    Also, public schools have been a huge boon to western society, as are public hospitals and public insurance. But you would actually have to leave the states to see that.
