  • This video goes over exactly how I'm able to grow hundreds of emersed aquarium plants all in one easy to maintain set up. This setup is an Ebb and Flow hydroponic system that has been designed for growing aquarium plants emersed. The system uses fluctuating water level to bring both nutrients and oxygen to the plant roots which helps promote the fastest growth rate in plants.
This emersed setup uses General Hydroponics Flora Series fertilizers at a rate of 60 mL of each fertilizer every 2 weeks. Because my tap water naturally is high in pH I also use Advanced Nutrients' pH own to lower my pH to the optimal level for growing emersed plants. Typically I aim to lower my pH between 5.5 - 6.5.

You're adding bloom ferts for phosphorus, but that PH adjuster says it's 0-55-0 lol, I don't know if you are aware but you have an insane amount of phosphorus, and it's possible that your solution isn't thinning as fast as you think but that the excess of phosphorus is causing the uptake of the other two to dwindle more rapidly due to their relative concentration to that megadose of phosphorus you have. I could be totally wrong buuuuut, I could be totally right. It's also why you get yellowing foliage, and can inhibit the uptake of iron, zinc, etc. It also increases presence of algae. Your system is epic, I just use potting soil and 15-6-15 I mix myself, and a heavily diluted 15-3-10 as a foliar spray, your automated system is amazing, I really want to try that.

Really love your videos. I'm trying to replicate what you're doing. Is it possible for you to share as many details as possible regarding your lights, bins, shelves, etc? How the tubes enter your bins, what pump you use etc etc. Thanks for considering.

    Great video!
What are you using to control the timing of the pump?

What is the substrate that you add to the little net pots that your grow the plants in?

Do you know why my lily pads are deteriorating ? The sit on the water surface in my 5 by6 pond . No pump. . What is it that collects on the surface film? My aqarium had the same thing with the lily pads even having a pump filter

    G’day mate,
Great vid, I’m really glad i decided to go with the ebb flow after your earlier video. I’m still mid build about to do the lighting. Does your water level cover the leaves of just to the top of the pot?
I’m also searching for a similar fertilizer because the one you are using is $160 plus postage here in Australia and that’s madness. I’m hoping to get something with the same number ratios.
Thanks for posting and the inspiration.
    Regards Duzzy 🇦🇺

Hey Duzzy, thanks for watching, you have to let me know how the build turns out when you are finished.
Right now I have found the best success with the water level only fluctuating to the top of the net pot, that way you won't run into issues with algae growing on the leaves.
I would guess most hydroponic ferts will grow these plants well, so I'd try to source a cheaper option because $160 is pretty expensive. Ouch

@@Widquatics madness pricing. I’ll adjust my depths. I’ve made them screw in so I have a few that are different depths. I thought that Anubias and maybe buce will get algae but crops and ferns shouldn’t.
Illlet you know. Thanks again for the help

I use Masterblend 3 part hydroponic ferts and with it you add the ph adjuster after you make your fert mix if needed. But you use the ph adjuster first. Is that how they tell you to do it?
