"Blue portal" - is just an arch on a building overhang with the sky on the other side... most of your descriptions are totally silly, is this intentional?
A quick tip for looking at these pixelated paintings, either squint your eyes or back up super far. The paintings become extremely obvious what they are when you do so!
Bringing back the original painting artist is a huge W… now we can hope C418 will return some day (not saying the new music is bad, in fact I love it, but C418 is extremely talented at capturing the atmosphere of Minecraft.)
C418 most likely will not be making a return due to some legal drama regarding the ownership regarding new songs.
@@ender0998 and by drama, you mean Mojang deciding to drop the agreement they had with C418 for a decade.
In fact I’d argue C418 helped define that atmosphere of minecraft
As I understand C418 likes to retain ownership of their songs, Microsoft is probably not too keen on that

I've always loved how Minecraft paintings can be so out of pocket. Like, one is very vague and evokes feelings of sadness and longing and then there's an owl and lemons. Really captures how the game can be played in so many different ways.

The fact that you can actually make a decent art gallery in Minecraft now. This was a W for collectors
2:30 his process is relly interesting, first he takes photos of out of bounds places in video games, then he paints them with a few additions and then he digitalizes and pixelizes it.
we should clarify that this isn't all he does. the out of bounds thing is a fascination he has, but most of the time he paints something else entirely. one of the new paintings is out of bounds but most of those are from circa 2002

Having zettestrand do the paintings just makes sense. It's like having JAPPA doing textures, it fits their vision. The 5 previously new paintings, though are good, stands out a little
As someone with a love for paleontology, with ground sloths as one of my favourite animals, that Passage painting was just the perfect addition, since that is clearly not a dinosaur. The original painting is on Zetterstrand’s website and it just proves that even more.
Haha, yeah. It’s a very recognizable sillouette if you know about them, and it’s a cool addition. Makes me want to make a museum build

The painting with the 'scary lurking face' looks like a Skyrim word wall to me. Considering there's also Counter Strike in the original painting set, that's my best guess. Delighted to get the OG artist back again, the style and surreal visuals always made the original set feel so distinct.

It still boggles my mind, i feel super lucky that minecraft released on my birthday, it just means that every time minecraft celebrates their birthday, i feel like they are also celebrating my birthday too!

The new paintings are amazing but they enhance an older issue: they way the players have to select the painting they want.
Even if they don’t add the elemental paintings to survival, we end up with 46 paintings. Yes, I know you can use temporary blocks to help you get the correct painting but we should receive a more appropriate way to select them.
Without temporary blocks, the player has a 2,17% chance to get the painting they want each time they place it on the wall. I really hope they upgrade the loom, or create a new working station to help solve this issue
Actually, without temporary blocks, the painting will always be the largest size that fits (At least on Java)
I still agree with your point though. We have the different kinds in the creative inventory, it would be awesome to bring that feature to survival.
I thought you could rename the painting in an anvil to determine which painting you wanted? Or am I thinking of a mod?

A cool solution in my opinion is making each of them an unique item that you can collect through structures, trading, archeology, etc.
Maybe the blank canvas can be used to duplicate paintings or even let players make their own with brushes
X is so passionate for minecraft he thinks the archway is a portal! XD. I did at first
One of the videos on Zetterstrand's youtube channel features the original 3D model for that painting, which makes it very clear that it's an archway.
The title is "Learning blender via old master paintings, got lost in the golden ratio, found the perfect rectangle", if you're curious.
Portal just mean entrance, entry point, transition point from one place to another. Archway certainly is a portal in architectural lingo.
Oh I guessed the music box wouldn't be in game and just part of the album, cool to have a music box song in game to use for ambience
They had already confirmed that there would be three new music discs when they released the soundtrack, so I already could tell that's what the third disc was going to be.
The paintings look darker because thats how they usally look
Notch jusy didn't like how dark the ORIGINAL paintings were so he brightened them

this is a HUGE win. I’m so beyond happy about this. I’m desperately hoping this spells some kind of beginning of Mojang caring about the game’s classic legacy, and potentially getting the third volume from c418 and even more music from him finally put into the game. That third album being locked behind closed doors is such a crime, and between his music and Kristoffer’s paintings, I don’t know what else defines Minecraft’s tone more than either one.

The paintings are such a pleasant addition! They’re something that can easily get pushed to the side (as they have for years) but we really needed them. I already can’t wait to try these out!

And the amount of preparation (you need to build high) and I guess luck (in hitting the shot before you land), I think it balances it out.
And most people play survival solo...so...
Loving the new painting sizes! I also like that we have the original artist back, these feel much more minecrafty than the other 5 we got recently. I do think however that some of the new paintings would work better as small paintings (1x1, 1x2, 1x3, 2x2). It’s too many big paintings being added at once, and I wish there was more variety in small paintings

Yeah I expected the two copper disks to be the two versions of Creator but I thought the oxidized one to be the music box version. Like the music box version is worn down and lost the instrumentation of the pristine original

I feel like Zettestrand's paintings reminds me of Magritte's work, which I had thw honor of seeing in person a few years ago. Some of the paintings with rooms and structures have an eerie and liminal feel to them.

I'll admit that the new paintings don't quite fit the same vibe as the old paintings, but I'm honestly happy about that. More variety for an old feature.
They're a bit darker in tone and palette, which I think was very sorely needed. Not very many dark feeling paintings among the originals, this is something I really appreciate.
The same with Creator and Precipice.
They don't fit the style of Daniel, but that does not mean they are bad. We need musical and art diversity in Minecraft. It's a sandbox after all!

This is incredible, Kristoffer Zetterstrand is the GOAT. Wish that Microsoft would allow C418 to maintain the rights to the music he's already made and have it be added to the game.

Chirstopher's return has to be one of the most epic things that's happened in the whole of Minecraft in quite a long while. I love his works and the depth, story and character they all have, and I am *SO* glad that he once again contributed his part to the game once again!

Awesome, except I had to go destroy my art museum roof to add a third floor to it. Oh well. I also he’d to ditch my really nice stairs in said art museum, which was kinda sad, as I no longer could use my fish tanks in them. But hey, the bottom central staircase has a fish tank, so it’s not a total loss.
I listened to the soundtrack, and I guessed right which songs would be the music discs! I made a playlist of all the music discs on Spotify, and just added those new songs.

one of my favorite things I know about minecraft is those abstract 1x1 painting that just look like shapes? they’re paintings of out of bounds counterstrike maps iirc

oh neat. it'll be a few more months before the 15th anniversary of me playing minecraft, i started playing around july/august 2009.
As with the originals some of these reference classical paintings. I am really excited for these and love that there are real oil paintings to look forward to.
Xisuma, the painting is a man sitting down on an island he is not brave enough to escape so he sits their watching the waves crash thinking it would kill him even tho he could risk it with a slim chance of making it. But he doesn’t so he is not a free man. It’s based on a true story and a movie that was made called Papillion. Sad thing is the man is just a painter. An artist. Who believes he is free but knows he is lying to himself. His friend was brave enough to leave the island

Great wee video bud, was wondering if all the new paintings are based on, or inspires by existing famous art works, because painting 4 is pretty much identical to the Danish painter Pieter de Hoochs, The Courtyard of a House in Delft, but with some interesting differences. Would be interesting to see where the inspiration came from, I do love them thou. Hope Mojang do a future interview with the artist.

the mountains look like that clipping glitch in the ground you can see in video games, where the underside of a landscape is invisible, while some parts peak out and are visible
With them coming back it makes me kinda hope more people come back for art and music even with the new ones. It makes the minecraft world feel alive where more people existed before us in game. Makes me excited to see what other decor and music we might see in the future be it more paintings, discs, sherds, or more.
This feels like a proper celebration!

FINALLY some 3 wide paintings!!
I’ve been having fun watching Kristoffer Zetterstrand’s videos he released over on Instagram of the original paintings and the art they came from. Cool to see what they actually look like before being pixelized.
i think i see what they’re doing with the music disks beyond just counting backwards. it’s basically making an *a side* & a *b side* to each disk. or what some may say… the *otherside*
redstone jukebox just needs an a/b switch & in the future we could even see each dimension having its own set of disks
Im curious if they will revamp the painting system, my idea would be you could craft the orignal old paintings with different colors of wool and find the newer ones in structures. Curious how they will tackle this

Ever since that CZcams video about what this artist’s work look like in real life I’ve felt bad about being so disappointed by Minecraft paintings but these look like they were made with miniaturization in mind and they really show off his approach to art. Very excited about these.

I know most of the original paintings are based on real paintings but I like how I recognise one as I had to look at the artist during an art lesson with the glistening melon and golden apple from Cotán

A lot of the real life versions of the paintings used to be online, but most have been removed for some reason
I like them all, reminds me of the old paintings, but I also like the other 5 that are made by the new artist.
